  • Jeff Lynne and company laying it down... a killer cover of the Master, Chuck Berry

  • Ja tästä oli Apocalyptican hyvä jatkaa... :)

  • ¡Bravooooooo WoW!

  • The beginning really threw me off when i first heard this...

  • FAn ruddy tastic !!!

  • That guy's fro flows into his beard

  • E.L.O. is one of the very best bands ever!!! I adore their music, it's simply epic!

  • AWESOMENESS.

  • ahhhh...those days where all a musician had to was act like he was singing and playing while a master tape reel spun out the studio taped version of the song.

they would never attempt anything like that today...would they?

  • When I was just a kid, I thought Beethoven must had been one of the coolest dude on earth just because of this damn song.

Miss them ( ELO ), and oh Chuck Berry too!

  • cellos rule.

  • ELO un grupo maravilloso y Jeff, un genio. Gracias por el video tan retro

    ,excelente rola

  • Lynne said he'd actually saw Chuck in a Coffee shop in London, but did not approach him, fearing he'd might say'"You've ruined my song"..He'd thought wisely to keep his distance instead.

  • might be chuck berry's song... but I like ELO's version better. Maybe cause I grew up with their music xD

  • imagine if ELO and Jethro Tull formed one band

  • @imnuthinspecial Imo god would take atleast one of them , because they could overthrough him.

  • I gotta get my yellow cape out of the dry cleaners!

  • fuh uck

    buck cherry

  • my drunk self misread the words "chuck berry" and... read... i'd rather not say....

  • @MATHEUSVGO The count's gone up to 60. ELO r soo out of the world..

  • Such a great beatles spng

  • @TheTristanproduction it was composed by chuck berry

  • @threedefects Well the Beatles made a song that is almost the same and it has the same title, AND it really owns this one!

  • @TheTristanproduction

You're serious? Get your Beatles facts straight, they did a cover of Chuck Berry, and as such a rather poor one. I do love Beatles, but the early years is mostly crapz tbh, loads of poor covers.

  • @TheTristanproduction I know the beatles one is better, but it is a cover to Chuck Berry's song, he is the author, not the beatles, I still like the beatles version better

  • @yourdime100 Covering a song covered 8 years prior by the most famous band ever to exist lol

  • @Zimnyification If you're referring to the beatles, theirs is actually a cover of the original chuck berry song.

Give the original a listen, its really good.

  • I don't get it... None of my violin playing friends want to learn this song... Great Cover!!! That solo is up there with Eruption by EVH if you ask me!

  • Wow! A great band playing the music of 2 masters (Ludwig and Chuck), and introduced by a comedy legend. Does it get any better?

  • I discovered this great group when this song came out in August 1973. Just about to start my college career at The University Of Southern California. ELO was considered a great band on campus and many of us enjoyed each album they put out. They started to lose some of their charm when Top 40 started to play them on a more regular basis. Still good no matter what they put out.

  • Totally prerecorded...Though I think Jeff's vocal was live. LLELO!!!

  • Great performance.

  • awesome subtitles...

  • Friday August 17 of '73 - The Day ELO Stopped The Clock !

  • flares, solar, satellites, power grids. hoo wah

  • really good but i prefer hearing goerge harrison sing it

    thumbs up if u agree

  • richard pryor

  • ELO are ledgends of the rock & Roll scene

  • I like the look the 2 lead guys give the violinist at 1:58 like wtf

  • I wonder if the muppet Floyd was modeled after him? I mean that as a compliment. Awesome song!

  • @Windsweptzariel Well you are right, the muppet Floyd was named after him

  • what, nobody noticed Richard Prior in the beginning?....its kinda cool!

  • whoa, nice hair, sunglasses. and wat's with the yellow cape and muslim cover the hair with a piece of cloth thingy?

  • Hey everyone in the world. I swear to god, that piano riff is used as part of a James Bond movie.... does anyone know which one it is?

  • i so wish i had the hair to be jeff

  • No - that ain't lip synching, no....

  • listen to this legendary guitar riff at the begin of this track....great

  • what year is this??????

  • Wow men i've never seen a elo video with 1923143 views thats awsome!!!!

Sorry about my english im from Chile ! :)

  • This is the ultimate song to play in your car.

  • What's astounding is that there's no dance floor.

  • Maybe they were ask to remain seated ... the rowdy ppl could be in the back... or maybe they were all just too stoned. I attended many concerts during this time period and can tell you we did not sit calmly.

  • ive never understood the purpose of clapping along, while someone is playing!

  • NOSTALGIA

  • I wish Don Arden Had given Wilf Gibson more money! he was a better violinist than Mik Kaminski! tho to be fair Mik was good too!

  • As we all know....nothin' like the 70's! Maybe we boomers know a thing or two.. "aint got nothin' to lose".... :)

  • Another one of my favorite bands from the 70's as usual they don't make like they used to. : )

  • This is such a great video but is out of sinc for anyone elde or just me? Have you got an in sinc version? :)

  • The chord progression heard at 1:28, and again toward the end, sounds similar to the synth chord progression on the coda of the Steve Miller Band song "Abracadabra".

  • Wow, look at all the dead bodies in the first few rows just sitting there. If you can't move a little to this song, then you must be on life supprt.

  • thumbs up if that violin solo wants to make you learn the violin

  • @RustyBaguette I can saw a 2x4 like that!!!! LOL!!!!! but not a violin.........wooooooooo hooooooooo!!!!

  • @RustyBaguette I've played violin since I was in 4th grade, and it's not as hard as it sounds, surprisingly :D

  • @RustyBaguette How about a trombone for your baguette. queerloaf

  • As introduced by Richard Pryor! Two flavours of awesome!!!!

  • What? One Wish? I WANNA GO BACK TO August 17th 1973!!!!!!!

  • @silvernail6 I seen them in Toronto LIVE!!!!!! in the mid 70's they were great!!!!!

  • Awesome, heck I remember when this song came out, you guys that are fighting here, take it somewhere else.

  • My man.nice version...THANKS

  • @1:59 That`s what i call a violin solo!!!

  • Jeff Lynne said he wanted to re-write this Chuck Barry song and rename it "Bend Over Beethoven".After Mike Edwards was crushed by a runaway bail of hay last fall Jeff Lynne became so emotional that he started snorting Cocaine lines off of Bev Bevan and Richard Tandys stiff penis's while fucking Michael D'Albuquerque and Colin Walker in their asses with his middle finger.Jeff Lynne always was infatuated with Gay performers like Beethoven,Bach and Tziachovsky who were as queer for men as he is.

  • @BobLemkeSuxDix why must pepole like you always post shit?

  • @guyinfuckinghat why must you be an ugly wimp weasel squeezing little fuckstain?Where are your muscles?Does your mommy know that she is raising a future victim of the HIV virus? Now go play in that cheap guitar of your with a blindfold on in the street during rush hour or fall on something sharp.

  • @BobLemkeSuxDix hey just because you gay doesnt mean you can take it out on people and just because you sucked on your mothers tits untill you were 12 doesnt make you an inadequate gay man

  • JL had to have been wearing some kind of stilts or something here. I have met the dude and he is NOT that tall! *Then again, maybe he shrunk! I know I have*

    #LOL

  • The Midnight Special will personally kick anybody's butt. American Bandstand, that Kirschner guy, Nightline, I don't care. I know, when you think Midnight Special, you think Billy Preston or Johnny Rivers. But the ELO crew showed how to rock it- old and new school!

  • I love these hippy hairdews

  • ELO IS GREAT. Chuck Berry and his version is great and the Beatles version is great. No need to be adverse to alternative versions. Some covers suck, but ELO is one of the great bands of the REAL Rock and Roll era.

  • incredible

  • A YELLOW CAPE? Do want. Do need. Must have. No time for full sentences.

  • the original song of Chuck Berry is much better than this cover

  • @ElCuartetero47 it sure is

  • and????

  • i want to kill those 50 people that push the dislike button!!!

    the song is so great!!

  • @johnubu this does NOT sound like the song by Chuck Berry

  • @johnubu THE SONG ROCK BUT THE COVER SUCKS!!!!

  • It's Cello, not Chello! And I love that blue Violin too! First one I ever saw that wasn't naturally colored. ELO ROCKS! First heard them when Mr. Blue sky came out, went crazy and started collecting everything they did. Kinda strange, cause I was a KISS fan and Boston fan at the same time! Also Waylon and Willie!

  • @Syzygy60 stop drinking!

  • show the freakin' violin when he has a solo...idiots,I hate stupidity(Obama and all liberal commies)

  • @Syzygy60 are you fro the south? because you described everything southerners dont like

  • if ur not a classical music buff,listen to the 1st album,then u will be :)

  • off the 2nd album

  • It's Animal from the ,Muppet Show :). Great song.

  • Go Jeff! And the . . . not blue violin. Miss it when I don't get to see that violin.

  • They raping that chello

  • @tonyohnoyoudidnt this is a VERY bad cover

  • @Belchmaster41 would more lipstick help?

  • I believe they called this arrangement "A Fifth of Beethoven"

  • I believe they called this arrangement "A Fifth of Beethoven" or something like that. . .

  • @Rawego ohhhhhhh rats!!!!! i have been looking for it everywhere......do not get anything on it! did you borrow my yellow violin also??? LOL!

  • je découvre,pres de 40 ans apres,fuuu ,original et décoifant, j'aime !

  • Mickey Rourke on the Cello ha

  • There is NO WAY that I would stay glued to my chair like this crowd does, much less clapping along...nothing! Are they forced to do that?!! They shouldn't be there..I should! If I had Jeff Lynn and ELO in front of me that close, I'd have to be strapped down!

  • @Mariannelfk I second that! :)

  • @Mariannelfk

Lol for all you know, they were playing for paralyzed people with aids, who couldnt stand up. how you feel now?

  • @Mariannelfk I remember seeing some documentary that actually explained that yes, they HAD to sit down like that!

  • @Mariannelfk I've noticed the lack of audience response a number of times in Midnight Special uploads. I don't know what their problem was, but we were dancing our asses off at home :)

  • @MoreMedication Haa! No kidding....dancing or blasting it out of our car stereos at a deafening volume! Someone earlier commented that the audience was told to behave this way....I guess so as not to portray our 1970"s teenage population as wild and crazy on TV. How times have changed!

  • @Mariannelfk Yes, we were such a madcap generation. Golly!

  • @MoreMedication ...I should have "madcapped" my way to the box office and bought a ticket to see them live in the 70's when I had the chance...I was too content with my cassette tape!

  • OMGMGMG BIG ST BERNARD xD

  • Move over chuck? Naah just a good version. Lots of bands did this. I am partial to this one though. ELO did some great stuff!!

  • such fun hair they have x3

  • im born 20 august 1973

  • @bigran2007 At the beginning and end you see oriental writing on the screen, they were a very polite society in public back then, they would not disturb the performance. It's also noticable on Cheap Trick at Budukan.

  • @cranknut Actually it was taped in the U.S. Those are subtitles, as this upload was probably taken from a broadcast in Japan or Hong Kong. (I don't know what language it is.) The Midnight Special, as far as I remember, always taped from the same studio in America. And I believe all the acts were pre-recorded and lip-synched to their music. If you listen to most of the M.S. broadcasts, the songs were just too perfect. Most bands do not sound the same way live as they do on recordings.

  • THANKS!!!!!XXX

  • @shazzpash The little chineese dude

  • personal fav it is the guitar intro at 0:20

  • Jeff Lynn could do just about anything well!

  • @bnutdude Still can!

  • ELO is probably best remembered for this rendition...great song!

  • The guy look like "Raul Seixas".

  • i bet when their parents paid for their violin, cello, and piano lessons that they'd never end up using them this way.

  • The audiences are sitting still. What a boring crowds. If I was there, I probably get up and do the twist and shout to this kind of music. Well, back in 1973, I guess, they prohibited to display anything out of the norms. LOL

  • Add George Harrison's voice onto this track and you have the greatest rendition of this song ever

  • @nogoodsnookeroo THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!

  • rock it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! high school days, loved it then and still do. thanks for putting it on.

  • if you dressed like jeff these days you would be locked up hes so cooooooooool

  • Back in the late '70's Dick Clark had a special. Did this song w/chuck berry, and a who's who in music at the time. Can't remember it all but it featured doc severinson (tonight show) and Charlie Daniels. Great stuff...this arrangement really rocks if you have the right musicians.
