@LeeMIlby homeless people might be cool. they might have cool experiences. besides it makes me feel better that im not just living in a neighborhood with a bunch of lame ass white people who have to ride around in a specific stupid bike and wear skinny jeans and own a mexican restaurant but make it all white.
Yeah i love talking to homeless people- because their lives are so off-record, they have a unique perspective on life that differs greatly from the rest of society. This is neat from an artistic point of view, but unfortunate as hell for them. Problem is that their perspective is sometimes propelled by underlying mental disorder, which makes them variously dangerous.
Homeless families i would say okay. But landing 200 homeless MEN in the neighborhood is dangerous.
The police say that the shelter will not house local homeless, but criminals who have just been released from prison and are referred there by their parole officers. And because it's not a permanent place of residence, sex offenders don't have to register. That creeps me out
BTW i know exactly the place you're referring to... my boyfriend used to date her...now he has a burning disdain for hipsters
Actually i'm not. I've seen a bunch in the area, and some are friends with a few of my friends, but I must say that I feel more and love more than they seem to. I'm not one to condemn an entire genre of people, but it makes me sad to think that it's considered "cool" to be lifeless. But aside from that, being whatever stereotype has nothing to do with ...anything. And furthermore, hipsters are empty and manicured, while the homeless have reasons to attack innocent people.
This is the ass end of greenpoint, and like any ass it has its share of shit, well you just saw it,the better end of greenpoint is on the other side of greenpoint ave.,not this hector gomez hiphop carlos santana bullshit
I've had some fun times in Greenpoint but the people who usually ruin the parties with their shitty attitudes and their need to tell you why their country is Superior to all is the damn Polish people that flood the neighborhood. I understand pride but shit if it's THAT good...go back
What about the Motorcycle Club out there! See since the yuppies came.. nothing is the same! But one thing is true.. between the food and the beer and great transportation it is the place to be!
i had an ex in gpt it aint nun like dese people say.....VERY QUIet neighborhood where the police watch literally everything...its i very good ass areas trust me....
Prices are very high, impossible to rent an apartment. Nice size, quality 1 bedroom in "OK" area of Greenpoint can go for as much as $2000 a month !!!! Totally unjustified. Especially if you consider that only subway line out of Greenpoint is the "G train> Arguably the worst service line in NYC . It only goes to downtown Brooklyn or Queens, then you need to transfer to another train to get to the City.
so what ?? its that hard to get ur ass out of a G train and get into an L train? and apartments cost like 1k lowest in OK area of greenpoint... the new apartments cost like 500k to buy out
I don't know what has happened to greenpoint in the last 30 years or so but the Greenpoint I remember in the 1960's was a great place to live.Everyone knew everyone, they all looked out for each other,if someone stepped out of line, the local men took care of it or the members of the 94th precinct who many where the local men took care of it.Does anyone rmember the horse drawn wagon that used to come through the neighborhood a couple times a week,or John's candy store on Huron st?Good Times!
Yeah the biggest oil spill in US history happened in Greenpoint and parts of Williamsburg. The oil tanks in Greenpoint leaked into Newtown Creek and to this day, still is seeping through the underground of the neighborhood. And Newtown Creek is experiencing environmental racism, so not much is being done to change it. This explains the high rates of cancer, even though Exxon (the place where oil spilled from) denies it...
LMAO I used to live in GP my friend lives right across from that barber shop, I played football in that churches yard.
I would move back if I could afford it but I can't. My grandfather's house on Guernsey got sold turned into some f**king condo building for the yuppies. and as for the polish comments i lived in greenpoint 18 of my 22 years on the planet and there's more polish there than in Poland lol.
it's all about how the PEOPLE in the neighborhoods treat eachother. A lot of people think "Brooklyn"= crime, gangs, poverty, etc. Lots of good people trying to build up the neighborhoods and make them safe to live in and bring up their kids. As a whole, we're going in the right direction...
Well, with all the new(white) people moving into greenpoint in the last year or so, crime has actually gone up! Alot of people from other neighborhoods actually go up there to "scout for victims." Plus you got all those damn artists, journalists, musicians, and other people with no real jobs getting drunk all night, every night. With all the new traffic and rapid increase in population, the trash is piling up !!!
listen to yourself. "plus you got all those damn artists..etc." Franklin Ave has been lifted out of squalor because of these "artists" you have such disdain for. You find families, born and bred, as well as newcomers eating in the same place. It's a mutually embracing neighborhood in gpt. I remember it 9 years ago, and to be honest it was the most racist and anti-semitic part of nyc.
You know what, citygerbal, you're right . Personally, I actually love greenpoint!!!... really the epitime of what this city is all about. Everyone as a whole,"born and bred, as well as new comers", want be intertwined and genuinly want to uplift the condition of the neihborhood. I was actually commenting on the crime rate (which has gone up !!!) and veared off track... Thank you for pointing that out.
Whadda you tawkin about you ass ho. My grandmother and I were almost mugged in 1960, I was 3, we are white italians, and I don't recall the muggers being white. In fact, I don't remember their color at all, that's the difference between me and you, I don't see color anymore, why don't you get over yourself and start making some changes in your life.
I dont know if u read my response where i clarified what i was trying to say, but it has nothing to do with color. What you"re talking about was a half a century ago( its irelevant for todays circumstances). Greenpoint is one of the most diverse and charming neighborhoods in BROOKLYN, but the crime there has dramatically increased over the past wo years. That, combined with the increased amount of waste (dept. od Sanitation has to step it up !!!) are the only drawbacks in Greenpoint...
i remember it 16 years ago My mother remembers is 46 years ago my grandparents remember it over 70 years ago.
chief gets a thumbs up because hes right, the crime has gone up a good deal. back in the day, you rob the wrong person or assault the wrong person you would have the Italians from old williamsburg up on you in a minute. a year or so ago the bodega owner here on franklin got mugged twice; once in his own house that never used to happen. sure there been some good things but crime isnt one
No mention of the Poles? WTF? I've been living in Greenpoint for 2 weeks and I'd say the defining feature here is the amount of Polish people living in the neighborhood. Zwyiec beer, polish cakes... come on.
back in the days greenpoint was the real deal ,summer jams in the parks not like the crap they have going on in mckarren pool these days ,damm hipsters.Remember termiator x ! Eric B and Rakim Scott Larock and all that music hip hop, house and freestyle and a cold 40 oz of old E!!!How the hell did the polish posse take over ? man i wish we can go back to the 80's i miss my friends from the point! shout out to all of you !!!
LOL greenpoint recorded.........00000000000 murder in 2007. Every where was bad in Nyc in the 90's. Greenpoint is the equivalent to Bayside QUeens which is very far from the city and is basically Long Island. Greenpoint is one of the safest neighborhoods in Brooklyn and its even safer than most considering its proximity to Manhattan.
I use to walk to Greenpoint from my home in Astoria. It would usually take no more than an hour. I did not live too far from the Triboro Bridge that connect Manhattan and the Bronx. Greenpoint park will always be a stop-over before I made it back home. I away love ordering from the chinese food store. The soup there was cheaper than in Astoria. And then I would sit in the park with a few buddies from the neigh.. and just chill. That's my memories of this area.
Brooklyn GreenPOint best hood around Really if u live in greenpoint its the same shit everyday U know..Its all up to you for what u make it....By the way they Moved Headrush to huron instead of green its better on Huron shout out to Goose at HEADRUSH Keep doing ur thing....

it's funny to me when people hype up neighborhoods to make em seem tougher. when greenpoint is about as housecat as a neighborhood gets. Lets see some east new yawk for whats left of crooklyn haha
Uhhh... When were you born, yesterday? Since when was Brooklyn, New York originally inhabited by Latinos and Blacks? Please, don't be rediculous. Italians and Irish ruled America, especially New York.
