Don't you love how fill in the blanks have the name John Doe on applications and such. The funny thing no one has heard of The Knitters or X. Quite silly I say!
i grew up on x, social distortion, the cramps, the clash, johnny cash, the meteors so much good music. this song makes me think of my big bro every time, r.i.p. Gannon, see you soon
Great version of this song. Love it. John Doe has an amazing voice and fantastic stage presence. A must see live act.....if it's with X or the Knitters or solo, see him in person! You will not regret it....
Thanks for posting this! I love X and the Knitters and have seen John Doe sing this song a few times, but I gotta agree with archbishop999 -- Merle is untouchable on this song. Not hating! just saying, it's like listening to Nanci Griffith sing "Tecumseh Valley" -- it's an awesome cover, but I'm calling Townes Van Zandt for the win every time.
Nice job... Any one that sings this solo suffers from the loss of the harmonies... but this was a nice job.

God, I love that song. John's version is so much better than Merle's original!

Man, I'll admit that John Doe's version is good, but Merle Haggard's version is untouchable.

John Doe has a midwestern farmer look. I can see him on a tractor somewhere, strumming this song before planting a field of corn.

I saw John perform this song in Baltimore 8 days after this performance. No one has a better voice.
