Tri-colour is nice! Just to make it more complicated, have you thought about PWM-ing between colours?
What are you using for the RTC? I'm using a DS1307 for my larger projects that can use a larger process to read it using SPI, for my low power projects I'm just using a 32.768kHz crystal.
I used a DS1302 with a 32.768 KHz crystal (mainly because I don't have much experience with I2C but the SX52 does support it). I am almost finished adding some coding and switches to set the time/date without having to program the SX52 with a programer.
