  • why have you cyclists declared war on motorists. Honestly, every little indiscretion by a motorist becomes amajor issue with you lot. Loud hooters, cameras and running commentary with vehicle reg numbers. You lot havne got number plates and the number of times RECENTLY that Ive been cut up or inconvenienced by a damn cyclist I am unable to report you. WE have to put up with it.

  • Doesn't look like a particularly safe road - is there an alternative route? You may have the right to ride on this sort of road, but I tend to avoid them - fast traffic and for some reason drivers are terrified of crossing the line into the next lane.

  • jeez how much road do you need? seems like it should be you giving other's some space.

  • Gay horn. Bet you've tassels hanging out the handle bars and playing cards in the spokes to make a burring noise. What sort of no life knob films his bike rides?

  • @stroppidawg and a pair of stablizers too, lol

  • buy a car and pay road tax

  • It is not "Road Tax" so your comment regarding the fact that you don't damage the road is void. Do you enjoy the road signs? Do you like the road to be swept? Do you like to see cycle lanes provided (not that you use them)?

More importantly, your statement that cyclists obey the highway code is so funny I laughed all the way to work...

    As an LGV instructor!

  • @toniWB I generally don't like cycle lanes (complete waste of money - just improve the road surfaces for all) as they are generally inadequate for use. I am also pretty sure I could function without any road signs, however 'road tax'; roads are paid for out of general taxation (eg. our income tax). Some vehicles pay for their emissions (my motorbike included). Road tax is not enough to fund the roads. annndd Certainly not all road users obey the hwc. It's not just a cycling issue.......

  • @toniWB .....this is not an cyclists Vs them thing. I can drive and ride a motorbike, have insurance for cycling & motorcycling. I pay "road tax" where necessary. It's much more a good road users VS bad road users...And I am sure as an LGV instructor you witness inconsiderate driving/riding from all groups of vehicle/cycle users - not just one group.

  • Bloody cyclists think they own the road. Get some insurance on the bike then whinge

  • @danny27404 Actually, I have third party insurance and legal protection. So in event of an accident my liability is fully covered, and I have legal aid to pursue a claim against anyone at fault. You'll find most cyclists will be insured as standard under their home insurance (personal liability insurance), I also have CTC cover, as mentioned. Annnnnddd bicycles are "road tax" empt before you start thinking that (just like many "eco" cars)

  • Nothing wrong with that the driver gave you plenty of space , it seems you was taking up all the road anyway , get a bus next time or ride your bike when the public highways are not busy , regards .

  • hahahaha thomase why dont you walk to work in your huge sperm stained bulgarian shoes..... they would overtake the tesco lorry thats overtaking the c90....BELLEND

  • And why was you going that slow a truck manages to overtake you? esp a tesco truck!!!

  • you are fucking dickhead

  • your a prick

  • a think that bikes should be taxed and insured to use the road or they should just shut up a drive a truck and often meet bikes runing 2 or 3 a breast if ur on the road u should take ur chance like abody else

  • @TheBuff07 I am insured thanks....and I pay tax on a motorbike, where as like some cars, my bicycle is exempt.

  • @TheBuff07 What a stupid comment. We don't need to pay road tax, as we don't damage the road. Cyclists still have to follow the Highway Code, or are subject to fines. Insurance is a good idea though -- I have public liability insurance along with theft insurance. It's nice to know that if some granny or a kid walks out in front of me without warning I'm covered... But as a cyclist I'm not going to kill a car driver out of impatience.

  • hi tomarse. sorry mate but had to google honda c90 then fell on the floor in stitches. nice horn by the way 10 4

  • too bad he didnt take you to tesco with him

  • @chakotay2007 If he had I might have got to work on time for once :)

  • horn sounds gay

  • I passed first time, have had my license for 3 years, covering over 5500 miles a month, yourself ? typical dickhead statement from a boy behind a screen.

  • fair play to them then, looks a busy road though chap, take care, lee

  • @leewink Yep very. That video wasn't even in rush hour. :P

Don't normally have a problem with the standard of driving from lorry drivers. Recently bought a Honda C90 and on duel carriageways (etc) lorries do overtake as it is quite slow. All pass and pull in having given lots of room. Similar experiences on the bicycle...however the bad overtakes are a lot more memorable, even if (thankfully) rarer.

  • your in hardly a good road position to judge, try avoiding the road in future cos you seem to have a problem with ANY traffic, like most do gooder bikes, I would of done the same thing, because id check my mirror once to see ive passed you wide enough which he had, if you swing out toward me, thats your action not mine, and certainly one that doesnt need another "poor truck driving vid" here.

  • @leewink I didn't swing out. The road curves round so perhaps that's why you think that. In reality I would have swerved towards the kerb to give myself more room.

Perhaps you think what ended up as a foot or two is fine, but when it happened I had no idea where the trailer would end up. If you watch my videos there are some (from the same road) of very good truck driving.

Tesco's apologised for the driving in the video anyway.

  • @leewink

Where did you win your license?

  • lol at an idiot cyclist with a horn on his bike, you dont pay road tax get off the bloddy road, worse than caravans.

  • eat or be eatin llf

  • ban cyclists i hate them

  • @amfwelsh That's nice.

  • @amfwelsh i agree

  • Get the at of the middle of the road and then other road user who pay to be on the road wont get so close.

Your right in the middle what do you expect!

  • im afraid its each man for his own out on the road, thats just how it is nowadays, oh and for the record i drive artics for a living and ride a pushbike, u ride a bike on the road in the knowledge that an accident may well happen

  • @Lymingeman Maybe so, but I also go out looking to avoid accidents. I guess when you're driving your artic you'd do the same.

Accidents can happen on the road, but that doesn't excuse poor driving.

  • @kerednotsobig1 Yep. The reason for being there is because I was on a duel carriageway it stops people trying to squeeze past in the same lane (so, if I was on the far left, a car in the outside lane...to stop people trying to squeeze in between). It's also meant to help stop stuff like in the video, but obviously doesn't always :)

Had I not been further into the lane he would have most likely overtaken closer, but I would not of had the space to pull into and slow down to avoid his trailer.

  • your one of those annoyin pricks on a push bike that goes out there way to make a big issue out of fuckal grow a set and stop complaining.your the one that chose to use a bike so youll use it at a risk of being run down or a risk of bein injured.and to have a cam on ur helmet well thats just geeky llf iv usually got a cam on my helmet but it aint a fuckin bike helmet.its a helmet thats hanging out the arse of your bird.llf :)

  • @kerednotsobig1 I was cycling, and it's attached to my helmet. Nothing naughty about it :)

  • I am a driver myself, not for a crapy companies as Tesco's but anyway i do NOT see a problem in this video, sometimes that happens, you were cleverer and saw what is coming... I can tell with confidence, i have seen many more car drivers making me accidental situations, especially sunday drivers and salesmen... In conclusion i must say, accidents happens, you can not do anything about it...

  • @Choranas If I hadn't reacted the trailer could of hit, or killed me. That's more than just an 'accident'.

This was completely avoided, if the driver either used the other lane and didn't pull back in till past me...or just waited till after the lights. Neither would of taken much time, but would have been a lot safer and stop this happening.

  • Trailer number wont get you far, my dad is Tesco lorry driver you should have got the time it happened and the reg from the cab of the truck then you could have rang the Transport Office to complain the clerks would have handled him.

  • @014034 I rang their "how's my driving line" with the time, location, numberplate, reg number...etc.

I think they spoke to the driver about my complaint, but unfortunately they (as far as I know) never saw the video. This happened ages ago so I forget exactly what they said.

  • Where do you life? I will know which depot that driver is from

  • @014034 The depot would have been between West Byfleet and Leatherhead. It was just before the A3, where the driver went towards London.

It happened on the A245 (Surrey)

  • Most likely to be a Weybridge driver - possibly a Southampton driver but most likely Weybridge!

  • im more shocked a tesco lorry was over taking anything. i normally get stuck behind one of these doing 50 on the motorway. i think this should be an educational video for tesco new drivers.

  • He probably couldn't see the arse of his trailer and thought that he already past you.

  • Well, I would hope it was a mistake and not intentional! Either way a bit more care was needed from the driver - I don't fancy being hit or run over next time he doesn't judge his trailer correctly.

  • Comment removed

  • I would agree with you Gerry. A good driver knows the length.. as well as the girth, haha.

  • I tried to reply to this yesterday, but my message didn't get through :(.

Basically I said the worst part is, is that I've lost a sense of trust around lorry drivers now and have become a little bit over protective of the road when they're behind. This ended up with my loosing my cool the other day, but in my fairness the driver couldn't overtake safely at any point up and until his overtake - and when he did overtake it did it in the stupidest place.

  • ...and I had to swerve and brake to avoid him (it was only a little inflated van type lorry). Unfortunately, the film was awful. As I was on my mountain bike as the camera's position was well out so didn't really show what happened - just a lot of footage that'd need bleeping out :P

The worst HGV overtake I've had was this one:

(search: VERY Close Overtake by HGV )

That still sends shivers down my spine watching it. I'm honestly surprised I didn't become road kill from that one.

  • In the scheme of things, I'd rather be overtaken by most lorry drivers and have got positive experiences. It's just a shame when a few bad apples....

  • Just reassure yourself with the knowledge that HGV drivers are better trained than normal bloke-in-car types. There is (usually) a little bit more skill involved in drving them.

  • Comment removed

  • grreeeaattt. Do you try to drive over tourists as well? Moron.

  • Seeing as you've recorded your trucking journey (no thats not meant to be rhyming slang I promise) you're hardly one to talk

    ;-)

It aint funny saying crap like that, Liam.

  • HAHA, I didn't see that :P. Niiccceeee.

  • haha, he removed his comment. The funnier thing with his videos is, he seems to be holding the camera rather than having it mounted - how amateur :P

  • Haha! Maybe he's realised that videos like this get checked upon now and again, and promoting stupidity like that comes back to haunt you.

I dont think he was hand-holding the camera in the vid I watched. I think his mount was wobbling a bit instead.

  • Okay, I've contacted Tesco's "well driven" line and they will pass it onto the Transport manager. In around a week or so I should have a response to it.

  • Look forward to their reply!

  • Got a letter back today. It says they've identified the driver, he was operating out of their distribution centre and they have made it clear they they do not condone this type of behaviour to the driver. They have apologised "for any distress or inconvenience you may have been caused".

Was signed with an actual pen too.

Didn't even get a chance to show off my video! My name was spelt wrong, but I think that was probably the lady on the well driven line not paying attention.

  • That's such a stupid and ignorant way of looking at it. let's just do what we want because the worst case outcome, MIGHT not happen.

The point is, that kind of overtake could be very dangerous and it could do a lot more than hit me.

  • Ah yes, the 'You're still alive, what's the problem?' approach that works so well in assessing danger.

A car spins out of control on a bend at twice the speed limit, narrowly missing a group of schoolchildren standing on the pavement.

As the car didn't hit them, there are no grounds for complaint.

It's certainly a novel way of tackling road safety.

  • Until the children get hit and there isn't a higher moral ground..."Oh well, usually they would be fine".

  • ohh, whoops! Sorry, I thought your comment was from the same guy hence I missed the sarcasm...sorry!

  • Unfortunately it's sometimes quite hard to tell the difference...

Some of these people are beyond parody! : )

  • haha, seems some other people haven't gathered it was a joke either as you've got a few thumbs down :D:D

  • haha what are you on about you cant compare an out of control car to an in control lorry. what about the other vehicles overtaking they nearly hit him as well but didnt.

  • also I think bikes should not be allowed on dual carriageways, they are not allowed on motorways and it is the same speed limit.

  • ...following on, it doesn't really matter if you think bicycles should be allowed there, the point is I am allowed and the Tesco's lorry overtook and pulled in very dangerously.

  • How did ANY of the cars nearly hit me? The lorry didn't hit me because I went towards the kerb and braked. All the cars used the other lane to overtake so were a safe distance away. When was the last time you ever rode a bike?

  • I dont cos its too dangerouse on the roads today. I stick to my car

  • It's not dangerous if people use the roads correctly and patiently (and I don't just mean drivers!).

Scientifically, the benefits to your health out way all other risks associated with cycling. I don't have the article to hand, but a quick google would find that.

  • everyone is in a rush these days I dont know why, but anyway these people will do stupid and dangerous things just to get to where they are going 5 seconds quicker. so i believe the car to be the safest option

  • So do you agree that the Tesco's lorry made a dangerous overtake then? If not then with your attitude the roads are 100% safe.

  • I doubt he heard the airzound !

  • hmm, dunno. At that stage he probably wouldn't of cared if it was 10x louder

  • I'm a cyclist using a helmet camera. The camera's attached to my helmet and I can only go so fast.

Overtakes like that could be fatal to cyclists....however, if you think I'm doing 35mph then cheers :D

  • Here we go. Another idiot posting on youtube. You must have an IQ of under 40 to post crazy shit like that, 762 ;-P

  • Nothing in the outside lane.

    So why pass so close?

  • Those are pretty narrow lanes - lucky you took primary or that could have been very nasty indeed

  • Yep, had some space to brake and go into. As soon as I saw the cab I knew there would be trouble, hence the horn and brakes.
