In India today, nearly every state holds some form of yoga championship; events that have gained much interest since Swami Gitananda established the Pondicherry Yoga Association (PYA) and held its first state yoga championships in 1975.
I hear you, and I can see how one might perceive ego in a practice like this. While I don't know Kasper personally, I do know a handful of yogis who have similar practices. They have all humbly blessed my life in many ways.
Some believe that Hatha yoga, asana practice, is a very limited aspect of the 8-limbed tree of yoga. However, anyone who has practiced with right intention for a long period of time, absolutely must draw upon all the limbs of yoga to do the physical practice well. Inspired.
@MindfulWarrior Your ignorance amazes me. Yoga has been completely westernized and when people say that yoga is all about relaxation, om shanti this and that, it's funny because yoga was practised as a competitive practice thousands of years ago in india – way back. Bikram is a discipline, and a practise that takes more mental focus than sitting in a dark room doing head stands. Not all yoga is for everyone, and all forms are great. Do your research.
@ClubN3Rd I'm just curious, but do you have any solid evidence do back up your claims? Since the concept of Yoga hasn't even been accurately verified as a thousand year old practice as opposed to a one hundred year one I find your claims hard to believe. The most seemingly accurate theory was that Yoga was practice as a means for higher consciousness and spiritual enlightenment, no where have I ever read about competition...But if you have real proof, I would really want to read it.
@xTrappedUnderIcex I'm a fourth year university student, and a journalist. I am well aware of what "research" and bias is. When I'm done writing a research paper, and a million other things on my agenda, I will gladly show you scholarly articles and books on the history of yoga and yoga competition. This clearly isn't good enough for you, because it's got Bikram yoga in the link and is written by an American born guru, but regardless
@ClubN3Rd that is verrrry interesting...most people who teach yoga say, that yoga is not competitive. it's active meditation and has nothing to do with sport/competition. but maybe they are wrong...it's really confusing. but maybe there are different kind of yogas, so some are competivite, some aren't...
@jenkomagic Bikram is the corrupt version of the sanskrit word vikram. The sanskrit 'Va' sound becomes in 'ba' in prakrit languages like a arabic, bengali etc...ex:-ravindranath tagore-->rabindranath tagore. Yoga is a lot more than gymnastic or bending of your body.It is more to do with the bending of your mind.basic principle is 'sound mind exists in a sound body'.Body is seen as a vessel and it is made clean and strong to hold the spiritual and higher consciousness.wt he did was gr8
@gajuambi Sorry, but Bikram yoga is named after its founder Bikram Choudhury who was born in 1946, so on the scheme of things it is just another Voga as I call it. I have been studying Ashtanga yoga (2nd Series) for 12 years with both Guruji before his passing and Sharath in Mysore and have tried a number Bikram classes. It is more like a gym workout than yoga which as I agree with your description of yoga you wold understand.
im with the others here... things like this are good example of practices taken out of context

Mindful warrior, it sounds like you have become arrogant rather than mindful in your practice. Time to let go of your own ego and judgement perhaps.

@ClubN3Rd and just to clarify because this happens often, a vague bias article or questionable video doesn't really constitute as evidence.
