I wish Richard Dreyfuss had married Karen Carpenter. No joke! He's a kind person and would hjave taken care of her. I know: He's Jewish, she was a Methodist; he's a lefty, she was a Republican -- but they could have worked it out.
He is so funny, that is exactly the way I would imagine Richard Dreyfuss at a party. He seems so happy go lucky and I agree with (burgerboyj) in saying that it was more acted than the butchering of the song. Thanks for sharing this video.

I LOVE Richard Dreyfuss, and I LOVE Paul Williams. I didn't realize that they were such good friends! Mr. Dreyfuss definitely butchered the song, but it was still awesome.
He was a total good sport about it, doing it at the urging of his good friend, Paul Williams. That song does have a bit of a tricky bridge, and modulation and stuff.
I was there that night!! It is one of my favorite New York stories to tell! That man didn't butcher that song, he ACTED IT,lol!! As only Richard Dreyfuss can! And for the record, he only had like 10 minutes to learn the song--at the LL they used to do this cool karaoke thing, where if they picked your name out of a hat, you got to sing with them. Go Hooper, we're gonna need A BIGGER BOAT!!
