  • Hi Tom, nice coil!

I wonder why coil has to be taller for full voltage, I'am building drsstc also with CM300,half bridge with doubler, what lenght of sec i should use?

  • @plasmatron6 Its really up to you but id say at least 4 feet. Mine was only 2 feet in this vid and it was liming my spark length I think.

  • @Tab54o thx, for responde

My next questuon is, what driver and controller are u using? :)

  • @plasmatron6 Mine own driver with built in interrupter. Same function as wards but different circuit. I don't think using fiber optics is a good idea either.

  • Nice job hope to see a full power run sometime soon. You might want a boost converter to run even higher voltages ;) That would truly make this coil a mini cm-300 beast.

Any data on power usage during these tests?

  • I raised secondary to run at full power but the coupling seems to suck and primary was getting hot. Ive Got about 7 ft straight out. I think its the limit for this secondary and primary. I was getting some racing arcs and primary to secondary strikes but if I raise the secondary the coupling is not very good and was limiting spark length. It needs a longer secondary. Might have to whip out another secondary.

  • Really awsome coil Tom!

Have to put one on my project list...

  • Hi Tom,

    Now i'm real envious!

Are you driving the CM300's directly

    from a GDT? or two?

I want to make a similar coil, but i've just been made redundant so its on hold untill i get another job.

    All the best,

    Mel

  • Hey Mel,

I'm driving them with one output that goes to two separate gdt's. The inputs are tied together. One for each brick. 4.7 Ohm gate resistors. I need to scope the gates to see how they look with these values.

Sucks about the job. I'm broke but fortunately I had all the stuff to throw this coil together.

Looking forward to seeing your next project.

    -Tom

  • Tom... Why are your primary and secondary out of phase?

  • because the streamers bring the secondary into tune with the primary.

  • I see.. nice coil
