There's no point in saying that Anna is better because of her flexibility because holding that same brilliant spiral on ice is many times harder.
Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying that FS is harder because they are both HARD. They both need strength, but in figure skating your not required to have as much flexibility. You have a ton of other things to worry about such as jumps (the judges have become so strict FS doesn't have the same artistry it once had) edges, and spins. It's not easy.
Just think that ice skaters have to train the same way to master flexibility and balance. Then throw all of that on ice and it takes 10x more years to learn the skill all over again with a new kind of balance
Sasha wins!!! Figure skating is so much harder, yes rhythmics requires more flexibility and pain, but those can be executed really quickly, figure skating takes 6 years to be able to learn "just" doubles....learning triples takes a little longer, but if you dont work hard enough, you wont land them...Anyway I love both sports, but if i had to choose, it would be figure skating, it takes more courage and strength....doesn't matter about flexibilty :)
Both sports are very hard. RG just isnt flexibility, its strength, deddication, determination. Mentally, just to perservere takes courage and strength. It can take years to master elements and excecute them cleanly. I am a rhythmic gymnast, but i love both sports. They are both queens of their own sport <3
Hmmm...figure skating is on ice though..if you think about it, its kinda harder, but RG does require strength, flexibilty and determination, get all of those things and try to put them on ice..:)
I agree. I also figure skate in my spare time, and the factor that it is on ice makes it harder. But at the end of the day both sports are beautifull and take lots of deddication and hard work :)
C'mon.... How can you TRY to compare these two sports. Both are really hard. And if you think Figure akating is just harder than RG, you're tottaly wrong. Both are hard and we can't even compare them both.
To me, RG and Bessonova win. Figure skating is always the same. No change, no variation.... Everyone does almost the same thing...
Figure skating always the same? No variation? No change? My friend if you don't know much about a sport don't bother commenting...
Some figure skaters have amazing jumps, some have great flexibility. Does it make you the better skater if you have jumps but no flexibility? No. Neither if you have the flexibility but bad edges on jumps. You must capture the crowd with what you have, and making the best of it. All skaters have different styles.
You're totally right; I know NOTHING about it... But as I said:"TO ME...", that's my opinion... so, just relax. I'd rather watch Rg and you FS; As I know NOTHING about FS, you now NOTHING about RG....
Not really. I watch both RG and FS, and enjoy them both. My family runs in generations filled with gymnasts, dancers, and figure skaters. Trust me I KNOW about RG I even practice it though I'm not incredibly flexible I at least do it. I know the rules to both sports and the dangers. I didn't attack you or anything so I think your the one who needs to chill out okay? :D
Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to make you like figure skating I'm just saying that by you not knowing anything about the sport the comment was a little naive. I didn't desire to offend you in anyway.
Everyone should stop fighting over which sport is better. I mean it is possible to like BOTH. This rivalry created by the fans of these sports is ridiculous. I'm sure that if you like RG so much you should try watching FS. It's very common for FS fans to like RG since they are somewhat similar.
Actually I change my mind from when I said that Anna is better. These two sports are so different they can not be compared at all! Both of them have done an amazing job, and on both sides it takes a lot of hours a day of hard work to do what they did.
Rhythmics requires alot more work because many of us are not born flexible and becoming flexible is much harder then learning how to skate on ice. I agree skating is hard work and is a very difficult sport but I'm just saying rhythmics is still harder.
Majority of skaters are also not born flexible. Learning how to skate may be easier than becoming flexible but learning to execute triple-triple combinations and to complete quads on blades and use flexibility while skating is much more difficult than I think both of you understand. Rhythmics does not require more work, just more hand-eye coordination.
rhythmic gymnastics involves flexibility in with pirouettes, and often a throw and catch all in one, so its not all about hand eye coordination, its alot more than that too you know.
believe it or not we all are born flexible(it is medical proved) because all your articulations are made of cartilage and gymnasts strat this sport at a very early age and it is relative easy la become flexible, what is difficult is to maintain that. About figure skating you clearly don't know anything it's not just saketing on ice, after you learn that it takes 6 years just to learn to do doubles, learning triples takes a little longer+learning pirouette+balance all on a blade on ice
just to clarify, articulations are made of cartilage when we are very young and with the years they ossify. i am not saying that figure skating is harder. these sports are very different. if you are saying rg is much harder clearly you don't know much about figure skating, if you are saying skating is harder you don't know much about rg.
i never said that rg is easy, i know is hard, that is more then just fexibility......i've respond to someone that said that in rg is hard to obtain flexibility wich is wrong because they start this sport at a very early age when you are very flexible
am sorry i have to i am scared DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TIME!!! Destiny Hope "Miley" Cyrus is a very famous Actress/Singer! If you post this on 5 videos you will meet Miley! If you don't...YOUR MOM WILL DIE IN tomarrow at 10:00AM! ############## BANG! NOW YOU HAVE THE CURSE THAT YOUR MOM WILL DIE REVERSE IT BY POSTING THIS ON 5 OTHER VIDEOS
Svetlana Boginskaya started out as a skater and switched to Gymnastics, and Surya Bonaly of France started as a Gymnast and switched to skating, so there is a similarity between the two.
Okay, there is reasonable proof here... several Rhythmic Gymnasts actually HAVE done figure skating... I believe 2000 Olympic champion Yulia Barsukova did a season of "skating with the stars" or whatever in Russia, and Almudena Cid of Spain did something similar... youtube video of that shows that the more precise technique of a Rhythmic Gymnast translates to the ice. I do not know of any skaters who have attempted Rhythmic with the same level of competance.
You cant compare rhythmic gymnastics to ice skating...each sport requires different techniques that all have certain degrees of difficulty. comparing the two girls is impossible...so is comparing the two different sports. they are each unique. and both girls in their chosen sport excel at it. but saying that one sport is more difficult or graceful then the other is pointless. becuz neither are the same.
Why not just admit, everyone, that skating and rhythmics are equally hard? There's no way on earth that gymnasts could do triple salchows or that ice skaters could do series of seven oversplits like Bessonova's.
but if the girls were to swap places and compete neither would probaly do very well cause there trained to do what their been doing pretty much all their life.
although i dont think sasha would have to much trouble learning to be just that bit more flexible were as anna bessonova has to learn to do all her spins and fansy stuff on a thin balde on a slippery surface.
I've smacked into the boards and hit myself in the head with clubs enough times to know that they are both difficult sports. They both require intense mental and physical preparation...and they both leave you wondering sometimes why you even began them in the first place... But my point is that they both are hard sports to pursue...
Figureskating is different, but Rhythmic Gymnastics is far more difficult. In rhythmic it is all about precise body line, perfect balance, the ability to center a spin (without gliding over a slippery surface), AND Hand to eye coordination... in skating its just gliding over the ice with proper technique. Now true thats not easy by any means, but the body mastery required of Rhythmic is far superior in difficulty.
Actually no it's not. It's so easy to be flexible. I taught myself how to do the splits in a day. And I know in rhythmic ppl are really flexible&stuff, but skating is effin hard. Try gliding in a split position on one leg on a thin blade on ice in the cold infront of thousands of people. Try spinning in the air 3 times and landing on one foot on a perfect edge with tight and fast revolutions. Skating is far more difficult, there are moves that could kill you
I didnt say skating was easy, just that it doesnt demand as much physical preparation from the athlete to do well. And Rhythmic can be dangerous, anyone who has ever handled clubs will understand, becuase its very easy to get a head injury that way. I had a stroke from a head trauma from it four years ago!
I don't think you could say being flexible is easy at all. Well done on the splits, but come back to me tomorrow after you've managed to touch your head to your butt in one day.
Oh ya well tough luck bud cuz i can already do that. I can do that NOT JUST on a padded mat, but in an arena full of ice on a thin steel blade where theres no padding. It's called a Sasha curl. Obviously named after the amazing Sasha Cohen.
:D
Come back to me when you're not so prejudice. just because w'ere not all gymnasts doesnt mean we can't do such flexible things.
I'm not saying that only gymnasts are flexible or that gym is any harder than ice skating - just saying that is it not "so easy to be flexible" and that you are lucky to be naturally flexible, but for most people it takes years of pushing and the majority of us will never reach that level of flexibility which you call "so easy".
Try the jump at 1:06 with the same amplitude, height and cleanliness in technique (even just on the floor) while keeping the hoop in mind. If you still think ice skaters can do rhythmic gymnastics without even trying to, look up "Rhythmics is not easy" here on YouTube, and you'll have to reconsider your position.
if you attempt to do more than 3 revolutions in a row spinning on the floor (and many RG athletes do significantly more than that) you will find it is much more difficult to maintain a spin on the floor than it is on the ice. Then attempt the spins with the same amplitude as even a competant national (let alone INTERNATIONAL) level Rhythmic gymnast with the various balance changes through out.
I would agree that these sports are very differant. However, I really like the montage, and I like mixed sports montages in general if they are my faverite sports! I think this montage is very pretty! Well done.
You cannot compare a figure skater to a contortist. That is a rule here, and I have to disagree with one rather ridiculous statement saying that figure skating is harder than gymnastic, because I used to be in gymnastic and was never good at it. I also have arthritis as a result from doing gymnastic, mizzi. Also, you have to have good genes to have that amazing body type. My dad is a geneticist.
It is also MORE than just genetics, it is also alot of training! Video search Anna Bessova (or any world level Rhythmic gymnast... KAZAKOVA is one that has alot on youtube) and you'll see some serious hyper-flexibility training. Tchachina is not genetically hyperflexible, she TRAINS to be that way and has to constantly work it to maintain it.
i think its ok, its unusual but its quite good, realy i think figure skating is harder than gymnastics because sasha cohen has the flexibilty of a gymnast and she also needs to skate. i think its good thow

if you attempt to do more than 3 revolutions in a row spinning on the floor (and many RG athletes do significantly more than that) you will find it is much more difficult to maintain a spin on the floor than it is on the ice. Then attempt the spins with the same amplitude as even a competant national (let alone INTERNATIONAL) level Rhythmic gymnast with the various balance changes through out.
