  • good video

  • It's an good video, but having missionarys preaching among the Yanomamo was a catastrophe! Firearms procured from local missions lead to drastic shifts in yanomamo culture, and to top it off previously unknown diseases spread by contact with outsiders killed off a great deal of the Yanomamo population. It was ignorant to think that the yanomamo would so much as care about judeo-christian gods, and it was naive to believe that contact with the missionarys was for anything other than possessions.

  • That was a comment posted by Shaihuluid that I deleted by mistake.

I was trying to reply that there were and are many disease and trade vectors into the Yanomamo. I saw only two guns owned by Yanomamo. When I asked, neither came from a missionary and they complained that missionaries would not trade ammo or powder.

Not to say that there weren't issues. Just be sceptical when one group gets blamed for everything -- someone is trying to sell you something.
