@maldicientin I think that it might have been a bad move to make Gwen care about looks. I mean the charm with the Gwen Stacy character was that in a way she was herself. With her orange sweater and her glasses she did make an effort try to look beautiful like the other girls.

I do think however that her change of clothing was a minor factor. I'm sure that Peter would have discovered his love for her eventually anyway. I mean it is obvious for everyone except Peter himself that he wants her.

just to clear up any confusion, the green goblin's persona was fully fleshed out by stan lee, steve ditko, john romita sr et al in the 1960's. batman's nemesis, the joker, didn't really become 3d dimensional until dc comics' revamp during the 1980's. in my opinion, whether delibrate or subconsciously, the joker may have took on some of the more sinister aspects of the green goblin hence the similarities in the characters today.
