Try the Dog Brothers maybe some of the things they do are pretty modern they also came from Inosanto they train alot of military and security. A guy just doesnt give you the knife you gotta smash his hand, and almost break his arm.
But Erik Paulson is one of Inotnao's students and says that MMA guys should act a certain way and not be rude or disrespectful. So maybe wing chun borrows from FMA and FMA borrows from wing chun and other arts. Ive seen some jujitsu type moves in Doce Pares the grandmaster Cinete is a black belt in Judo and many many other arts its not a crime for him to add to it. He's 80 years old and Inosanto says he DANCES around him like nothing.
I dont think FMA rips off anything of anyone it might BORROW but it probably doesnt rip off. And Hawings Chueng said to free yourself of wing chun and make it your own something like that. Gary Lam also adds things like hooks to wing chun. MMA is not a bad art but the guys who do it have big heads and thing that they know it all. Inosanto trains in Shooto and BJJ took him a year to get a black belt in BJJ under the Machados. Erik Paulson is a great grappler trains guys like Brock Lesner.
its very nice to see someone demonstrating a martial art without showing off. it makes it honest and beautiful to watch. to all the people making disrespectful comments: keep an open mind in all martial art or you'll never get far.
@goosenooseable Yes, Pekti Tirsia is very similar to this and I can highly recommend it. There are different styles of Kali and Pekiti is one of the oldest and most effective styles.
I trained for two years and I can only say that I have learned more during this time than during my 7 years of Kung Fu and 4 years of Karate.
It seems so many of you are arguing about whether Kali,Silat,Eskrima, or Wing Chun is better. Kind of silly I think, as each has its merits. Why not just find a top notch Inosanto certified instructor and learn them all? Then you can pick and choose which aspects will work for you. Or specialize in the one that seems best suited to you.
Remember, man makes style more than style makes man. If you have a pot belly, you will probably have trouble with an in shape fighter with no training, right? lol
@TheRiobezerko Its insane that Inosanto has time to learn all these arts. He knows JKD, Filipino Martial arts from Lacosta, Lamenco, Petiki Tersia Kali he's currently studying Doce Pares, he knows Serak, he knows other forms of silat, he knows savate, shooto, BJJ, Muay Thai, He's studied Largusa Kali, ilustrisimo that I know of. He's still going strong.
Kali empty hands seems to blend so well with Wing Chun. I've been dying to really immerse myself in a good JKD Concepts school. *sigh* One day I'll have the time and the money. lol
Great video, showing various moves. I like the way people on the most part, keep their eyes focused on the movements of the opponent; it's very critical in giving faster times to react. If fast motions of attack are not seen from their start, it is likely too late to stop it because the brain takes time to give the signal for our muscles to move, so every millisecond counts. Thanks for sharing, from the wonderful country, Philippines!
@Bakunaga Easy, panantukan is better then wing chun, panantukan doesn't need any influences. Its good on its own, unlike wing chun and ji jutsu which rips some things off of filipino martial arts.
@copypacercopypacer I practice kali and agree that panantukan is a great tool in combat but I don't believe any one system can be "better" than another. If a martial system wasn't good then it would simply falter and wither which is not so with Wing Chun. I've practiced a bit of Wing Chun and Jiujutsu as well and I don't see where they rip anything off of fma. If anything fma has ripped off from alot of other styles itself. There is no modern system which is created without external influence
@Bakunaga I have practiced krav maga, jkd, wing chun and brazilian ji jutsu but i don't think they can compare to eskrima since eskrima or arnis is so much more effective and deadlier in my opinion, because unlike wing chun, fma by itself with no influences is perfect. You see unlike like other martial arts, fma is fine on its own with any major influences. Thats what makes filipino martial arts the most effective out of all.
@copypacercopypacer you realize that all of those martial arts you stated including FMA are made up of different martial systems right? Kali/Arnis/Eskrima has obvious influences from kuntao, silat, western fencing, and in some schools even jiujutsu. I agree that kali is very practical but also has it's limitations.
@Bakunaga kuntao and silat is part of fma and the only western fencing i know in fma is the ones that are used in sports, which is not meant for actuall fighting. the only system that uses fma with jijustsu is eskrido, man fma schools only use whats native filipino since it is known to be more deadlier and lethal then what is taught from bjj and wing chun schools.
@copypacercopypacer you sound like you're tryina convince me of kali being deadly..I know! I agree! BUT silat originates from the Sri Vijaya Era in Indonesia and Malaysia not Philippines. Kuntao is in some fma but originates from Chinese Quan Dao(Fist Way). and doce pares and kombatan use jiujutsu. If you think fma unarmed is quicker than wingchun then I don't think you've fought any good wing chun practictioners man. Kali is deadly in cqc and armed. Otherwise Krav maga offers more options.
@ARTBUS1 actually, contrary to popular belief the battle of Mactan was a true battle not a duel. From Pigafettas' journal who was the chronicler of Magellan, he said that Magellan was struck by spears hurled by natives and died covering for the retreat of his already beaten men. They sailed with three ships but only had enough crewmen to run two ships back due to the heavy losses incurred during the bloody battle.
@ARTBUS1 Of course your gonna die if you have knive and sticks. Any martial arts are gonna lose if your going up against a gun and your to far to get it away. My minister is a cop he tells me you can have the fastest hands in the fastest hands in the world but against a gun it doesnt matter.
Popularity is one of the worst parts of MMA. MMA has become the "McDonalds" of martial arts, it is filled with sloppy movements and encourages poor techniques for realistic combat. MMA is a game, nothing less and nothing more. When a martial arts centers itself around a sport, it loses its ability to be effective in real life combat.
Trust me, its a blessing that you have a few schools that teach good technique vs a bunch of "McDojos" teaching utter crap like BJJ.
@Mon3yman228 ??? i have no good schools.in my area just mma and bjj i need an eskrima place to go too mma is like the worst excuse for a martial arts ive seen people take mma and start fights just to see how effective it is and they lose thats also one of the main reasons i hate mma they dont teach you how to be humble and develop a disciplined mind.
0:08 I am learning JKD at a school in my hometown and we just learned that arm trap last week! It's so nice for a novice like myself to recognize a technique from your video. Excellent work by the way!
Nice video! I have a question though, in my school a lot of kids are taking MMA classes, and as a result there are a lot of idiots walking around with the ability to break bones and choke people out. To be on the safe side, Im looking for a Martial art that would help me in case I need to defend myself against one of these MMA fighters, is this one it? Thanks for the help!
MMA is actually one of the worst kinds of martial arts you can learn to defend yourself in real combat. When it comes to genuine self defense, you should look into something like Krav Maga, which is deadly in its simplicity and effectiveness. Genuine Jeet Kune Do is also a very deadly martial art, and its philosophy benefits any and all martial arts training you receive(except maybe sports oriented ones, like MMA).
@Mon3yman228 Alright then, Ill check it out. Thanks for the help. I think I might want to take kali because it just sounds fun to learn how to knife. I might take krav maga or jeet kune do in the futer, but I dont have time right now to learn both because I do sports in my school. I appreciate your advice (never even heard of jeet kune do!)
@RecBookHero and Mon3yman228: Many of us MMA/Street defense types love FMA (Filipino Martial Arts). You will probably be pleased to know that Kali (aka Escrima, Arnis, etc.) also has excellent empty hand (panantukan) and stick techniques. including grappling (dumog). Please check out the following youtube vid to see some good stuff: /watch?v=GjkHDEJWlzY&list=FLGCW_hKVT9ag2nplWi8ev0A&index=3 and look at some of the related vids that come up. Train hard.
