i dont know what i am, but im sure that some of my forefathers were chatti, because my grandmothers family-name was " Heß " which means " a member of the germanic tribe " chatti " , thats what i found in the internet, but i think we germans are a mix of all franks, saxons etc., every person has about a billion ancestors since charlemagne ( 900 after jesus )
This video proves Romans were not white European. Did you guys hear the part where Caesar lumped all Germanic tribes (white people) together as opposed to brotherly unifying and bringing in the Germans into his kingdom? I have always believed that Romans were a Mediterranean race-- separate and distinct from classical whites. This video confirms my thoughts.
@mikedav9O yes but you are going by the modern construct of race they didn't believe that back then, back in those days people where distinguished by culture not race
PS note the "Celtic" torque worn by the Germanic Ariovistus. Many torques have been found in Germanic lands and the most famous Celtic great-Cauldron of all was found in Denmark - Celtic deities, warriors, war trumpets, the God Cerrunos (I don't know the spelling) - in Scandinavian lands.. I think there was a great deal of overlap between the Indo-European peoples..
Before this artificial creation of the "Germans" (the Germnai were actually a Celtic tribe), Europe was made up of a huge network of individual tribes with much overlap in Culture, language, beliefs - they were essentially one under what would be called the Celtic culture - once Ceaser had defeated Gaul he needed a bogeyman as a reason for commiitting more troops - he created the "Germans" just as the earlier Greeks had created the "Celts".
That's a typical modern view on history. The Germanic tribes all originated from Scandinavia, therefore had the same background, related and very smiliar languages and cultures, and they surely knew that they were related to each other much closer than, let's say, to the Slavic or Celtic tribes or the Romans. That they had the name "walh" for all non-Germanic people is a hint for a common Germanic identity..
@SamHawkens That root has many legacies in modern words. Wales, Wallochia, Cornwall, and even the word "walnut" all have their origins in "walhaz" or "walh"
Dont ever let these kind of cheap thinking cheat's you. Never hait one another. Have understanding that we dont want to be divided anymore. Have love and understanding for each other so that we can build a better world together.
alot of these tribes came under the title of the "suebi". It is not just the romans and greeks that wrote about them but the arabs, rhadanites, indians and chinese also wrote of them.
Alot of eastern european/baltic tribes meshed also with the suebi/germanic groups.

You're Anglo-Saxon mate from Northumbria ( thats if your family are traced to northern England?) over time though we have mingled amongst the Brythonic(Celt) peoples of this isle so we are a mix, BUT you are predominantly Northumbrian Anglo-Saxon bro.
Germanic and Celtic are more cultural than genetic terms. Most western and central europeans would be descendants of the paleolithic Cro-Magnon. Native Europeans if you want. Of course they mixed to a certain degree with the Celtic immigrants and Germanic peoples (and others) and adapted their culture. But this immigrants - especially in case of the British Isles - were to few to make a huge genetic impact.
have you ever heared of the Basternae, the Treveri and the Mediomatrici...or the Franks?all of this Tribes were to the Same amount Germanic and Celtic...with the Franks beeing the Founding Tribe of booth the French and the German Empire...
Well, there were of course the original native hunter gatherers who were of iberian origin(they were short and had dark features). The british celts are the next people to inhabit britain, and then the romans came and ruled england for a while. After they left, celtic culture blossomed, but soon after the Angles settled in northumbria, anglia, and mercia. In the 800s the Danes invaded and settled in north England. So you are probably descended from Iberians, Celts, Angles, and Danes
Bro you seem to know allot of Britain and her history. you have any idea how they ended up with a German Royal family? The Queen real last name I heard is saxocoberg or something. is that right?
Well i beg your pardon but was it not the Roman army that was blood thirstily conquering the whole of Europe. The image of the "savage" Barbarians was an image instilled by the Romans of the time and still lives on today. Same goes for the Vikings. Truth is the Romans were perhaps the most savage marauders of all time.
mmm dont forget the christian they have murdered millions in history and tortured ppl to. And thats beq they wanted all to see the godness in christianity isnt that a little wierd to?
where did the germanics get all of the nicely tailored get-up. This is absolute shit.

Germanic tribes included many minority nations who shared the same Nordic origin. They were a warlike nation, who always sought wars and battles.
