Since the ending kinda implies that Lucifer escaped (i.e. the Serpent and evil laugh), does this mean that, if they make a Purgatory and Paradise game, that Satan will take over/invade those realms and you have to help out God and the angels?
For those who don't know many things about this game, it is inspired from the Divine Comedy, written by Dante Alighieri. In this book, he visits hell with virgil. At the end of the hells he goes to the purgatory with the support of his muse, Beatrice.

So in the game they made a mistake with how the star is shown... Still an awesome game though!

Slight confusion here. So Dante was killed and went to hell... and all those monsters he killed along the way with Death's Scythe... errr... were they actually killed? Was Death himself killed? Its just with the Scythe disappearing the implication is that it never existed, and when Dante died he didn't kill death at all... but then how would he have broken those massive chains and killed all the bad guys?

@MrBaddestofthebad I don't know either. The game since the start changes the story of the poem. But, according to the poem, the woman he loves is right in the Purgatory waiting for him. Maybe they'll meet each other there and have a problem with God. I always thought he'll kill God in the third game. I don't know, the game's just like God of War, so he will:
1 - kill God in the end of the 3rd game; or
2 - get her, make a tour on Heaven (????) and go back to Earth.

And that novel ends and is not followed by any sequal. If they do a "dantes 2" they are gonna have to come up with a totally different story? They did not come up with the story to this game, they took the one from the book and made it abit more game suitable (more action basicly)
@pepparmostheelder The Divine Comedy is a 3 part book, the Inferno is simply the first part detailing Dante's trip through hell. The second part involves him climbing the mountain that is purgatory, and the third is his trip through the heaven. They've got plenty of material.

@pepparmostheelder The game has very little in common with the book, it'd be like taking the Great Depression era and making Sin City from that. The Purgatorio is structured similarly to hell, with each level of the mountain representing a different type sin to be overcome by the soul, depending on whether it committed the sin, before it can ascend the mountain once more. Also, in the book Dante wasn't really dead.
Anyone who reads this if you have a psp or a 360 choose the 360! the psp graphics aren't as great and there is more in the 360! i know this because i have the psp version, so heed my words GET THE 360 VERSION!

It is quite impossible to have a sequel of this game esp. if it is going to concentrate on the Purgatorio because it is all about moving on after witnessing your flaws in Hell before ascending to Paradiso. What the heck will Dante fight in Purgatorio? Kill the sinners whose face in near the ground because of the boulders in the Step of Greed?
Not necessarily. Purgatory is still filled with mean and nasty people, the only difference being Hell is designed for those who acted on their passions, while Purgatory is for those committed sinful acts mentally and may have acted in ways that didn't meet the threshold to be in Hell. As we see at the end a Serpent entered purgatory, Satan no doubt is bring some of his monsters with him.

well it seems like none of you noticed so i will say it the cross he ripped off turned into a snake it was a snake that tempted adam and eve to sin the snake some people believe to be the devil himself so dante apparently just released a part of him into heaven this means war in heaven and i'm guessing dante's gonna have to take this infection out of paradise

I mean they want to continue the divine comedy after it's finished?! what are they going to do wright another great masterpiece?! i mean, my gosh the ending was wonderful ,even the part of the snake, but to continue it seems stupid :\ I haven't played it but the ending has a feeling of relaxation and a surrender to peace, Isn't that enough?

Ok I'm a Muslim and I will tell you what is purgatory it's a mountain that divides hell and paradise people in that mountain will be forced to look to the hell so Their face will burn so they ask god to give them help and to look to heaven meanwhile while they are looking at paradise their back will burn and ask god to help them and put them in paradise's door at the end they enter paradise. Those people are there cuz they have the same good and evil level. Also this game is against us Muslims

The title of the next game will problably be Dante's Purgatorio - and maybe the third one will be Dante's Paradiso. (cuz it's an italian book)
The story is from the book Divine Comedy.

@MrBaddestofthebad I don't know either. The game since the start changes the story of the poem. But, according to the poem, the woman he loves is right in the Purgatory waiting for him. Maybe they'll meet each other there and have a problem with God. I always thought he'll kill God in the third game. I don't know, the game's just like God of War, so he will:
1 - kill God in the end of the 3rd game; or
2 - get her, make a tour on Heaven (????) and go back to Earth.

@EDU4RDO09 @MrBaddestofthebad I forgot to mention: In the second book, when Dante meets his woman, Virgil suddenly disappear. Maybe in the game, someone will get him and take him to Heaven, which would be a perfect reason for showing up at Heaven.
I don't know. I thought they'd follow the story, but from the scythe's moment on, it's not the story of the book anymore - so they can do whatever they want now!

Think about it: EA made Dante's Inferno because Sony was earning tons of money with God of War. The controls of Dante are just like Kratos'.
In greek mythology, any man can be a God, but when it comes to "catholic mythology", you can't even SEE Jesus or God, EXCEPT if you are dead. Right? The Bible also says that "Jesus is sitting on the right side of God."
I just think it would not make sence to kill God, but let's see what EA will do!

@TheGililgi Have they announced a sequal? because if not there probably wont be one. This game was based on the novel "Divina comedy" (sorry for misspelling). And that novel ends and is not followed by any sequal. If they do a "dantes 2" they are gonna have to come up with a totally different story? They did not come up with the story to this game, they took the one from the book and made it abit more game suitable (more action basicly)

@pepparmostheelder The Divine Comedy is a 3 part book, the Inferno is simply the first part detailing Dante's trip through hell. The second part involves him climbing the mountain that is purgatory, and the third is his trip through the heaven. They've got plenty of material.

@newtonyd aha ok, I cant really say for sure since I haven't evan read any of them so I guess I'll have to take your word for it :P however, seem abit odd to make a game were dante's goal is to climb a mountain (unless there are like super mountain goats who wants to push him off) and evan more odd to follow him in heaven. I mean, what are you going to do then? Kill angels and have God as the final encounter? But then again I havent read the book so who know what he does on his journey :P

@pepparmostheelder The game has very little in common with the book, it'd be like taking the Great Depression era and making Sin City from that. The Purgatorio is structured similarly to hell, with each level of the mountain representing a different type sin to be overcome by the soul, depending on whether it committed the sin, before it can ascend the mountain once more. Also, in the book Dante wasn't really dead.

It is quite impossible to have a sequel of this game esp. if it is going to concentrate on the Purgatorio because it is all about moving on after witnessing your flaws in Hell before ascending to Paradiso. What the heck will Dante fight in Purgatorio? Kill the sinners whose face in near the ground because of the boulders in the Step of Greed?

Not necessarily. Purgatory is still filled with mean and nasty people, the only difference being Hell is designed for those who acted on their passions, while Purgatory is for those committed sinful acts mentally and may have acted in ways that didn't meet the threshold to be in Hell. As we see at the end a Serpent entered purgatory, Satan no doubt is bring some of his monsters with him.
