  • love this song ( :

  • she starts off all shy, and then just goes into "bitch, please" mode and starts FREAKING opera! this woman was an amazing singer. I can't understand her, but I know Jupiter, and Homeland, and this sounds amazing.

  • 美奈子ちゃん天国でも歌っているんだろうな きっと・・・

    素晴らしいファルセットボイス!!!

  • 13 persons are deaf

  • she's really beautiful and has a amazing voices may she rests in peace

  • この素晴らしい歌は心の発露ですね。日本人の誇りとして我々の心に留めておくべきです。

  • This song has profound spiritual meaning to me...that's when I discovered Honda Minako. I learned more about her and listened to some of her music. I ask myself, how is it possible that someone so beautiful, amazing, talented, and young can be taken from this world...and someone like me is still here? I don't understand at all. I wish she were still here. I really do.

  • What can I say! This kind of pop style of composer Gustav Holst's song is new to me. I really like it! It is usual to hear the orchestra version. As a voice major, from a long time in the past, I've heard a lot of singers of pop songs. I think that Miss Honda's voice, in this song, is certainly near perfect.

  • @singa2n Have you heard of Homeland? I think it was by Kirby Shaw. Our A capella choir did it a few years ago, and it sounded amazing. It isn't as up-beat as this, but it still sounds really good.

  • amazing!!!

  • @gekiteiSAKURA

    お前こそタダ聞きするなよな

  • She hits those high notes like a fuckin' jedi!

I have a friend whose mother only THINKS that she can sing like this and I feel like terrible every time I have to sit and pretend that I enjoy her singing. I take solace in knowing that at least somebody could.

  • Very very beautiful song! YEA!

  • Very very beautiful song! YEA!

  • Very very nice.

  • What a beautiful rendition. To hear her sing this... it makes me cry.

  • R.I.P Minako. She was beautiful, may the sickness that took her never take another life.

  • ♪みんな、手をつないで 生きて行こう~♪

    被災された方たちに、この歌を贈りたいです。

  • HOMELAND OR I VOW TO THEE MY COUNTRY... LOVE IT!!! The accompaniment should of stayed to the traditional way. But Minako will forever be in the hall of fame for some of the best singers to walk the Earth!

  • @DARKmirror70 Although the roots of this song are indeed indebted to that hymn, I'm pretty sure this song is paying tribute specifically to Holst's "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity," especially when considering the lyrics in this song are literally about the planet Jupiter itself.

  • This is...just amazing. It's an amazing piece in classical settings, but it works so well with lyrics and in this solo setting.

Plus those performers have such soul and put their heart into it.

    THIS is music.

  • 本田美奈子さんの♪Jupiterが私は1番好きです!最高です☆

  • She looks so radiant when she is singing though that may be just the lights.

  • I think the melody Jupiter came first. And then later the lyrics of "I vow to thee my country." Holst, who composed the music, was surprised how well this melody fit with the lyrics of "I vow to the my country." Sometimes it takes years or even centuries for a poem or lyrics to find a tune or vice versa. Samuel Crossman's poem "My song is love unknown" did not find a tune until about 3 centuries later.

  • even she is 38 she is stll graceful & elegant

  • This is what immortality looks and sounds like. Simply magnificent!

  • Nice performance.

  • Cover from Hammerheart of Bathory??? hehehe

  • Beautiful 'extreme' voice on 'Jupiter'.

    ThanX Minako and R.I.P.

  • Very beautiful!

  • なんと穏やかな顔なのでしょう。

    なんと美しい顔なのでしょう。

    なんと美しい声なのでしょう。

  • @bluemoun10

    I agree with you wholeheartedly.

  • まさにミューズ(女神)ですね。

  • If you want a decent version of the original try Katherine Jenkins 'I Vow to Thee My Country'.

  • @morphybum This isn't a Japanese translation of "I Vow to Thee, My Country." These Japanese lyrics are about the planet Jupiter itself.

  • It is also used as the theme to the Rugby Union World Cup, under the name 'World in Union'. It is a tune in a lifetime.

  • It is also a hymn, "O God Beyond All Praising," which is just a beautiful, beautiful thing. The English hymn lyrics written in 1982, I think.

  • The original song was in English... It was composed by Gustav Holst. They sag it at Princess Diana's Funeral, and called it "I Vow to Thee My Country."

  • Not quite true. Originally it was an orchestral piece: "Jupiter" from The Planets. As you said it was by Gustav Holst. But this version didn't have any vocal part. The orchestral music was written to the metre of the poem, I Vow to thee my Country, which is by Sir Cecil Spring-Rice.

  • Omg, seriously, is there any version of this in English! If not, are there translated lyrics anywhere

  • Sarah Brightman also recorded and adapted Jupiter. Her version is called "Running" and it's quite different from this one, but I think you'll enjoy it

  • The original is for orchestra. It's the best in my opinion. The Osaka Philharmonic have their version on You Tube

  • search wikipedia, the full version lyrics is there

  • Very good piece of music! I'm desperate to find the piano sheet music. Can anyone help or does aneyone know where this performance is from???

    Thanx alot.

  • Such an exquisite voice set to a very spiritual piece of music.

    Thank you.

  • There is another version by Ayaka Hirahara, is it different from this one?

Since they both sing this piece with different pitch and tone, it's kinda hard to understand and recognize if they're different or similar.

She has a great voice though!

  • Different lyrics. And both give a very different feeling. Can't decide which one I like better... Honda Minako has an amazing voice that is so sweet yet strong at the same time. Hirahara Ayaka has a very strong and powerful voice that is so rich. *sigh*

  • I was confused, too. But as leprasia said, they're both two different songs with very different lyrics.

I love them both but I find myself listening to this one more. I do miss Hirahara's though, haha.

  • I listen to Hirahara's version more often, but yeah this one is great too.

  • Duly amazed. I do not believe she traveled to the another world... Be secured I opine so soulful.

  • Hey guys - love this song but thought I saw a version a while ago, with a video set to beautiful scenery and a little more commercial sounding - I think the video has been removed does anyone know if it's out there somewhere - possibly with japanese text in the title so i can't find it?

  • hi there, i also love it, type in jupiter.enjoy.

  • You were a true magnificent voice...

  • Thanks to 214197135 for his comment. Millions of us still love Minako. I wonder how many celebrities inspire such genuine admiration. She showed us how fully alive a person can be while still being humble, appreciative and down-to-earth. A Japanese friend once described her to me as "hade",essentially "flashy" maybe even intending something like "gaudy". Behind the slick clothes and erotic dance moves was a sweet, genuine woman. Life itself must value her as we do. Greg G. of Portland

  • Thank you for your comment.

Yes, I think her slick clothes and erotic dance moves were that she just tried to show like a grown-up.

Because she hated that she is called a pop idol.

Anyway, she is a rare person(singer).

At this Japan, more people are entering her fan club, after she pass away.

And I will also never forget Minako forever, like other fans(include you) of her will never:)

  • Three years ago yesterday Minako passed away. I enjoy this and the opera and other classical adaptations she did in her mid-thirties. She was also charming doing enka and strutting her stuff as she sang "M","Tempation","Marilyn 1986" etc. It was the way her sweetness and her sensuality reinforced one another that attracted us. We then noticed the beauty of her voice. She was both a perfect example of Japanese femininity and her own unique self. We're not likely to see her like again.Greg G.

  • I heartily agree.

I think Minako is pleased about your kind words.

  • I heartily agree.

I think Minako is pleased about your kind words.

  • Hi

    pretty girl

    you are very nice

and you have one beautiful voice

  • Ayaka Hirarhara was the first version I heard it from. It is also pretty nice.I am very delighted to here this wonderful rendition as well. Also... 'I vow to thy my country.' is the original score that Gustav Holst got his inspiration to 'Jupiter, the bringer of Jolity.'

  • I love both Ayaka Hirahara's "Jupiter" as well as Minako Honda's. =)

  • hey, i read your comment.. without you, i would have never found out that ayaka hirahara's jupiter is the song i've been searching for for 8 years~! i never knew the title or the singer, i just kept the words and melody in my head UNTIL NOW! thank u sooo much~! :D

  • Beautiful voice...!

  • The last scene of her life is thought to have been impressive for us. In spite of the agony of leukemia, she did her best as a human being and as a pop artist. For that reason only, I can pay respect to her.

  • No. This is simply a woman who looks joyous to to sing. To have her voice and talent heard. Though this is far from my type of music.. i just.. am floored :O) RIP this was a really wonderful display of ability.

  • Sorry to dissapoint you, but Minako has a beautiful voice... She was an awesome singer.

And where did you get that japanese female singers sing like "honky old women" from? that is seriously the stupidest crap i've heard xDD.

Anyways, Minako-san was one of the best, Rest in Peace.

  • @Minagi3571 nothing to add Minagi.

You said what must be said. :)

  • @Minagi3571 what happened to her? :(

  • @IAmTheViolaFreak she suffered from acute myelogenous leukemia

  • Life brief candle

  • I love it!!! i dont believe it could have been done better :P its such a shame that she is no longer here

  • could someone post the lyrics in english please?

  • (2ndhalf)

And then a bright morning comes

The dawn breaks on the earth

You put a smile on the face

A new life begins from tomorrow

    (intermission)

    No one doesn't know sorrow

Everyone gets over grief and Carry on.

    For the peaceful world

Let's hold hands together and Carry on

  • (1sthalf) Let me wipe your tears You better cry when you want to No one doesn't know sorrow Everyone gets over grief and Carry on. Look up the sky and take a ship to sea As make a splash, look up the sky The very star far away Hidden in darkness Is the king of dark night who protects you. It's Jupiter.
  • bleh, it'll always be "i vow to thee my country"

  • she is the Angel.

she has been singing in Heaven.

  • yes I know

  • avon is right... o_O xD lol

  • 彼女の華奢な身体から、これだけのパワー、オーラが

    発せられるのか?? だから、余計に悲しい思いです。

  • there are words to the song???

  • Songs have been written to the piece many times.

  • what a nice song =o

  • o my god!!!! her voice is wonderfull!!!!

  • This is so beautiful... :( I'm so sad that she died at such an early age....

  • Really? I don't think so. =( This shows that Minako Honda honored (past tense, poor girl passed away recently) Gustav Holst and that she treasured his work enough to create something beautiful out of his equally beautiful music.

At least this was well-done. "I Vow To Thee, My Country" is a pointless rendition of Jupiter, whereas at least this song mentions the goddamn planet.

  • yeah. lol. we hav different points of view, but she does sing pretty good. i just dont like the piece. =]

  • The song is called HOMELAND.

And it the person who wrote the words for it dedicated the second and third stanzas of that particular rendition to his father who marched in the Bataan death march as a prisoner of war in WWII so idiots like you could express your opinions.

The line "Cut by the blood of faces above, and voices now silent. But the message loud is heard."

Is making a reference to the fact that his father was killed.

And your made just because it doesn't talk about the planet?!!

  • Yes, I am, because the song is called "Jupiter" for a reason and I'm glad that artists like Honda have turned it into RESPECTFUL songs that RESPECT the planet Jupiter as opposed to a silly war song.

  • Well I'm glad that someone made it into a song that stands for something.

This song wasn't written with words.

It was written as one song in a series that covers all the planets.

I would rather the words that were finally put to it make you think.

Instead of just thinking about a planet in space.

Whats so special about a big ball of gas floating around?

  • different things are special/important to different people...a war is not important to me, but Jupiter the planet is. I'm a polytheist and I believe in many gods, Jupiter being one of them, and that planet has a special place in my heart.

different things are important to different people and I'm sorry for judging your views

  • mina-chan suteki¡¡

  • i really dont like how she doesnt take the upper octave for parts of it, i like the piano harmony though

  • This is the best of her songs.Nice voice

  • MINAKO IS THE BEST.I LOVE HER ALWAYS.

  • the original is better.

  • RIP
