  • I first heard this sung by Bea Arthur on a Golden Girls episode, and have loved it since. Very well done.

  • @jajohnson7809 Thank you for the nice comment. I am familiar with Bea Arthur's version, as well. I first heard this as a youngster on a Cher album, and it peaked my interest in Irving Berlin..and then the Great American Songbook took me over....lol.

  • INCREDIBLE TO SAY THE LEAST. A BEAUTIFUL SONG TO DEDICATE TO A LOST SOMEONE, WHAT MAGIC DID IRVING BERLIN DO, GREAT

  • I love your voice, beautifully done......do you have more???:>) .....Irving Berlin, was a brilliant song writer, he would be proud...

  • @35777 Thank you, and yes, I have a few more videos on my channel. I also have a library of recorded songs that I pick from to create videos. I usually try to make a video once a month. I'm so glad you enjoyed it and hope you like future posts, as well!

  • Fabulous . Your voice sounds like you are in your late 20's early 30's too. It's lovely. :D

  • @BROADWAYRUNNER10 Ooohh Thank you! My 20's & 30's have come & gone, but I still love to sing!

  • @PaulWykel Thank you! I'm so glad you took the time to listen & comment - very much appreciated!

  • I've listened to A LOT of other recordings of this great song and yours is the best version by far. It's a pity the orchestral arrangement and the recording doesn't quite do justice to your singing. Thank you!

  • @tortex3 Thank you for your wonderful comment. This is one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite songwriters. How can you not love this stuff - it's so great - so full of emotion. Thanks again - keep listening!

  • Excellent rendition :) Second only to Judy!!I I'm a professional singer myself, and I think you are sensational. Keep it up dear!

  • @RobertEllis2010 Thank you very much - I certainly appreciate the nice comment!

  • This song was first sung in 1924 by Grace Moore and John Steel in Irving Berlins Music Box Revue.

  • No I mean you always sound like some big band era singer.

  • @brandonichero I getcha. I "feel" like a big band era singer when I sing these great songs.

    :)

  • I know who you are. But still, everytime I start to play this, I wonder what big band era singer this is.

  • @brandonichero This has been recorded by so many... I don't think there's one specific artist who could call it there "own".

  • Thank u. No rush. U do have a pretty voice. I listened to some other songs u sang and they're awsome. Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is there a song that u can sing in memory of my sister carrie? The song they had played at her funeral was Sissy's song by Alan Jackson and How great though art. I love ur vioce.

  • @pooh3373 I haven't recorded anything new for quite awhile. My husband got a new computer and he hasn't configured the recording program yet. He's in school right now, so his time has been focused on that, but I promise when we get it together I'll work on it!

  • When I first hears this song, it made me think of my grandmother. I sit and wonder if she ever listened to this beautiful song. U done a wonderful job singing it too. It's too bad I can't ask her because she passed last march 24th 2009. Thank u for keeping it in everyones mind and heart to cherish for the rest of there lives.

  • @pooh3373 Thank you for your very nice comments. Sorry about your loss... I lost my father in 2007 and I miss him terribly. I'm glad you liked the song - it is one of my all-time favorites.

  • @pooh3373 I am quite sure your grandmother did hear this song. My Mother told me it was a super hit in her time. I love this song too but it is so sad...

  • This song brought back such a lot of fond memories....Thank you for sharing it with us. You certainly managed to bring out the magic in this song and all the nostalgia for days gone by. It's this kind of everlasting music that the world needs to become a better place.

  • @MrWace Thank you for your nice comment. I agree that the world needs more music like this and not so much "cookie-cutter" pop that all sounds alike. It's more fun to sing a song that's genuine, because you can make a connection.

    Thanks again!

  • I like to listen to different versions of music, especially opera arias. Tonight I was listening to Irving Berlin songs. In the midst of hearing renditions usually by deceased singers, such as Judy Garland and Betty Hutton, I came upon this gorgeous performance. And to think you're alive and recording songs just for our pleasure. You have a beautiful voice and a superb sense of musicality. May I suggest that you record another Berlin song, "Blue Skies." Youtube needs a version by you.

  • @comment2011 Thank you so much for your very kind comments. I will look into your suggestion as I like that song, just need to find a good arrangement.

    Thanks again!

  • Damn baby, terrific voice for a great song!

  • @glacier1134 Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • Good Manners compels me to compliment your lovely voice. You FEEL what you are singing! I have looked at 63 videos and listened to all the the famous names in singing. Male and female. Your version is the one I treasure. Sincerely. I needed this song to send to someone very dear to me and so very far away. YOUR voice has provided me with great comfort at this sad time in my life. Thank you for combining Mr. Berlin's words with your lovely voice! Good Thoughts!

  • @MrChancellor1 Thank you so much for your very kind words. It's hard not to feel these songs, they are such a rich blend of music and lyrics, sometimes I start to cry when I'm singing which makes it tough to finish! This song is one of my all-time favorites.

Thanks again for taking the time to listen and comment!

  • @MrChancellor1 I think I voted down your comment. I'm sorry. It was the result of an oversensitive touchpad and it won't let me take it back. Again, truly sorry!

  • Beautiful, thank you Judy, for making my late spring evening even more wonderful.

  • @TheMadSyrupMaker I'm so glad you liked it, thanks ever so much!

  • it is nice to see the person who wrote the song being given credit and honored. It certainly adds to the beautiful rendition given by this singer. Thank you for sharing the credit and letting us hear the music and lyrics so wonderfully done

  • @MerryPopInsChgoMiami Thank you, my dear. Irving Berlin is THE definition of the Great American Song Book, and I love singing his songs. Thanks again for the nice comment!

  • I am so happy to see that you are branching out with singing enagements. Long overdue!!

  • Judy, you've earned your place among Amazon's MP3s with this song. As good as the best of them, and way better than most...no lie! I can only underscore all the compliments you've already received. Wherever that incredible voice of yours may take you, I want my seat to be up front and center. ;-) What a gift you have! Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

  • @shiftshappen Thank you so much, what beautiful heart-warming comments. I'm so glad you found me - please visit often!

  • Well, no knock on local shows, because I love and attend them all the time. But YOU, Judymybaby, deserve a slot on American Idol. And THAT'S the truth.

  • @phantomraider36 Thanks again! Except I am WAY too OLD for American Idol (it would be nice if they had a "geriatric" version....lol).

  • Wow, and double wow, Judymybaby -- what a gorgeous, professional rendition. Makes me misty-eyed thinking of some days and friends gone by. Where can I hear you singing live?

  • @phantomraider36 How sweet! Your comments warmed my heart. I will be singing at the Logan Hils Festival (Zanesfield) during Memorial Day week-end, and at the car show (downtown Bellefontaine) for the Holland Theater in August.

  • beautiful!

  • @myladyA33 Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by & comment as well.

    :)

  • You have a lovely voice. A joy to listen to. Heartwarming and healing.

    Thank you.

  • Where ever did you find the midi file for the instrumental part? I have been trying to find one for ages but just can't!

  • Beautiful tribute, and video to a brilliant songwriter. One of my favorites. 10+ stars!

  • @jsbach15 Thank you, I think he was brilliant, and this is one of my all-time favorites. I love singing it. I'm glad you stopped by and enjoyed it!

  • YES! I remembered!

It's the Bird's of a Feather opening theme!

You tube doesn't seem to accept my links in the comments box so I can't post the link, but search in youtube for Birds Of A Feather Opening Titles

  • Una de las canciones románticas más hermosas que he escuchado!

  • @artediosa

Thank you for the visit & the comment!

    :)

  • This is such a lovely rendition of this song judybaby - well done!

  • Thanks for the boost - I'm glad you liked it!

  • Hello.

I was listening to BBC's Radio 2 earlier and this song (your version) was playing and it stirred a childhood memory but I can't put my finger on it!

So I'm wondering if your version of this song was in any movies or on TV perhaps during the 80's or 90's or maybe earlier.

Thanks. Oh and 5 stars of course. :-)

  • I'm not sure about a film, but this version was done by Linda Ronstadt.

It's from a karaoke disc (Karaoke Hits).

I think there is a similar version in an old recording by Judy Holliday.

    Thank you for visiting!

  • An outstanding version and a beautiful voice!Better than most of the versions I've ever heard!

  • Thank you so much - I'm glad you liked it!

    Come back often!

  • Anytime I listen to your beautiful and haungting version of this song, I feel like I am visiting an old friend. Just outstanding. Thanks so much for sharing that incredible voice

  • I am so flattered by your wonderful comments.

I certainly appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment - it warms my heart!

  • How can I get this copy as a music file? I'd like to put it on my ipod. It's the best I've heard so far!!! Great music great voice.

  • Thank you - you made my day!

I could try to email you a copy of the song.

If I send it as an attachment you might be able to save it, I'm not too sure about how to do all that.

Just let me know and I'll try.

  • @judymybaby Let's try sending an attached file, please. I bought 4 versions of this song earlier but they're not quite there and they're all big name singers! Either the music was off, trying too hard on the singing part, or skiping the introductory lyric. Thank you so much for sharing.

  • I am currently working on a very '1920's' version of this song with a friend. You convey all the anguish and sexiness of the song without it sounding jaded or dated.

  • Thank you for your wonderful comment. I love this music, it's so easy to "feel it" when you're singing.

    Thanks again!

  • Lovely, Judy!

  • Thank you very much - I appreciate the listen and the comment!

  • In your rendition you conveyed a perfect emotional arc for this song, from reverie to anguished to forlorn. Brava.

And I'm pleased you included the introductory lyric. Too many performances leave it out, and I think without it the rest of the song just isn't well grounded.

  • Thank you - I certainly appreciate your appraisal.

This music is so timeless and beautiful, it solidifies Berlin's place in history and personifies his genius.

  • In a world gone Planet of the Apes mad I would love to hear more singers like you embraced. Now it needs soooothing.

  • What a nice sentiment - I'm so glad you enjoyed it - Thank you!!

  • Well done. You have a great voice and that is one tricky song to do. Most impressive.

  • Thank you very much.

I just love this song and the entire genre.

  • I don't know who you are but you did a great job. I'm a guitar player and I've backed a lot of girl singers in the past, it would be a pleasure to have you on stage. Mstrgitr

  • Thank you!

I would love to sing "live" with you!

  • I've love this song forever. You have a fabulous voice ! LOVE it. Are you recording??

  • Thank you very much!

The most recording I've done is in our home on our sound system; I've done a few live recordings, but nothing commercial.

When we make cd's we usually give them away.

  • You have an incredibly beautiful voice and excellent taste in music. That was wonderful; I only wish that there were more than 5 stars to rate you!

  • Thank you for your kindness.

I'm glad you appreciate the same kind of music.

    So glad you were entertained!

  • Thank you so much - I certainly will do my part to keep this music alive, and I have met several young people on here who have a great appreciation for the "classics", and I'm sure they will help keep it going.

How can anyone deny this beautiful & timeless music?

Again, thanks for the nice comment.

  • Wow - what a beautiful voice you have! I wish Mr. Berlin was still with us to hear you sing this. He would have loved it. :)

  • What a wonderful compliment; I would have loved to have performed it for him!

    Thank you!

I love this song, and this music in general.

  • That's beautiful-thank you! I was looking for a version of this song because I'm playing it on the guitar for one of my students to sing in a school performance. It's a special school, so it won't be quite as polished a performance as yours. Really lovely!

    Best wishes from Cornwall, England!

    Kev

  • im singing this in choir. its truly amazing and beautiful

  • Thank you for the visit.

Yes, I agree, it is one of the most beautiful songs...if you get a chance, check out other songs written by Berlin - he was an amazing talent!

  • Wow, you are truly blessed with a great voice. Amazing!!

  • Thank you so much.

This is such a beautiful song - Berlin was the master of heartfelt music.

  • You made me cry.

    Such a lovely song.

  • Thank you, you are too kind.

  • What a beautiful voice you have. Berlin always denied writing songs for a specific purpose, but most people believe there were two exceptions. This one which he wrote when his mother died and When I lost You which he wrote when his first wife died. I hope some day you will sing that one as well . Someone once asked Richard Rodgers or perhaps it was Jerome Kern what was Berlin's place in American popular music. He replied Irving Berlin has no place in it, he IS American popular music.

  • Thank you so much for your kind comments.

I agree that Irving Berlin IS American popular music - so many of his songs are mainstays - they will live forever!

  • Who is singing this???

  • I am!

    It's one of my favorites.

  • Love the tune, Judy... great singing as always. Wonderful!

  • Thank you, Carol!

You are always so kind to me!

  • Oh I loooooooove this song - And your version is very beautiful!

    *****

Where did you find the karaoke?

  • Thank you so much!

This karaoke version is on Karaoke Hits.

I would LOVE to hear you on this arrangement!

  • Wow! This song brings a lump to my throat!

  • Thank you so much.

Believe it or not, my first "notice" of this song was a version by Cher - just loved it, and I still do!

  • Just beautiful, Judy! Thank you! 5 stars!!! :)

  • Thank you, Greg!
