i really feel compassion for Vanity when she was at the height of her career...drug abuse and being used by men (RoyScheider couldnt be more distant from her in that photo than if he was outside on the balcony) and all she was seeking was the same as any of us do...love...wanting to belong to someone...i am so happy she got her life turned around and now has found the happiness she so desired with the loser men who took advantage of her
@LustingSvenska I agree. And, not only was the drug abuse and being used by men heartbreaking but, she also had to endure horrendous physical and emotional abuse by her biological father when she was a child, (which could explain why she choose to be w/ just dirtbag bastards - men like her father) which, is why I suspected the reason that she took on her alter ego Vanity to begin w/ (to mentally escape memories of her childhood abuse). Thus, came the drugs, promiscuity, and everything else.
@LustingSvenska However, in the past 20 or so yrs. Denise has turned her life around, and given up Vanity (which I don't really agree w/ cuz even though Vanity had her faults, so STILL was one of the BADDEST WOMEN ON EARTH in her time - nobody came close. However, Denise is much happier now that she has given her life to God, and I respect that. My problem is that I like both Denise Matthews and the image that was Vanity (even when she was drugged out). I still thought she was cool and swag.
@LustingSvenska Also, the pic was from a movie that Denise starred in w/ Roy Scheider called "52Pickup", which, really disturbed since it was another movie were she was being used by no-good dogs.
@utubegirl, I wouldn't say she is hypocritical by any means, GOD uses the weak to do is work..He's using her to recruit as many lost souls to him..everyone have something in their a past that they are not proud.
@utubegirl, I wouldn't say is hypocritical by any means, GOD uses the weak to do is work..He's using her to recruit as many lost souls to him..everyone have something in their a past that they are not proud.
She went from one harmful substance (cocaine) to another (religious zealotry).
I miss Vanity, though she claims "Vanity is dead!" Funny though, when she markets an appearance for her psychobabble preaching, the bill reads "featuring Denise "Vanity" Matthews".
I suppose she dig's Vanity up whenever it's convenient.
@psychomajic666 First of all, judging by your comments, it doesn't seem like just a shear coincidence that psychomajic666 would be your name. Second, if you don't want to hear her "psychobabble" as you call it then, how come you know of her appearances? If there's something (someone) I don't like, I don't follow it and know every detail.
@utubegirl I'm a Vanity fan, and when you look around for Vanity memorabilia you come across everything from her modeling pics 30 years ago, her movies in the mid 80's and yes . . the various websites and ads for her recent evangelist ventures.
You don't have to necessarily "follow" these things around to notice them. If I hit a nerve with you by voicing my opinion on evangelism, so be it. Though I disagree with Vanity's current activities, I'll forever be a fan of her past work.
@psychomajic666 Ugh no, you didn't "hit a nerve" w/ me. However, judging by your comments, you just seem to be saying Denise is hypocritical and, that being a Christian means that you're mental. I was just annoyed by your comments.
@utubegirl Denise turned to religion out of convenience. God meant nothing to her when the money and drugs were plentiful. When confronted with severe illness and bankruptcy, THEN she "saw the light".
Denise claims Vanity is dead, however if it means luring people into the sermons, she bills her apperances as "Denise 'Vanity" Matthews.
I'm not saying this is right or wrong, but let's see it for what it is.
I LOVE THIS! I also loved how she switched to rocker! totally differant to her other tracks. She was amazing. I'm glad she's happier now. Still miss her tho.
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome song. I cannot tell you how many times my friends and I played this song when we were in college. By the time the semester ended, the entire dorm knew all the words. Thanks for the trip back down memory lane!
And another thing about the "Filthy Fifteen": how is it that the PMRC objected to this song and put it on that ridiculous list, but Tipper & co. never said one word about the song "Pretty Mess" from the SAME ALBUM?
Dude, you know she's not appealing physically anymore. Why front?
And her living for a made-up thing is widely known to make people that much more unattractive, not the opposite. It's called being crazy. And she's one of the looniest bitches to belong to that cult.
Such a turn around. She has a huge addictive personality. It just went from cocaine to cults. Very unattractive.
She used to be so full of life, and omg so gorgeous. Now she has a hole in her stomach, and talks to "god". Sad, sad.
Thats cold and disrespectful. But thats just your opinion. We all age. She's an Adult and can choose the way she want to live her life. If this is how she redirects her addictive personality thats her answer.
It's her refuge at least. Better that than crack, I suppose. But it doesn't validate her religion anymore so. Just another vice.
Also doesn't deter from the fact she ruined a classic beauty. She should still look good -- she's not THAT old. Chick from the the Cosby Show still looks good.
It's just sad. ;/ I wish she didn't do that to herself. For many reasons, not just all selfish reasons. She seemed to be a nice person, and innocent enough -- not wanting to fuck people. She paid hardcore.
@DaxShaw Yeah, she has some sort of special Dialysis treatment she has to do, and it connects to her stomach from the outside. She does it when she sleeps, and/or times throughout the day. She's got it rough. ;/
I agree she has taught women how to be sexy. I see Vanity in Beyonce's every move and Vanity was really Sexy in Drive me Wild. Watch her back up dance how she plays with the camera with her eyes and gestures. She a legend!
I agree, she taught women in the 80's about sex appeal, and I dont think she felt like she was doing that. The way she plays with the camera and her gestures really remind me of Lena Horne.
Ahhhhhhh!!! i still live for this song! "I love the way you rock....wigglin'...you say....werk vanity. God bless her! and no i wasn;t tryin go be funny
This is my favorite song by Vanity! I would dance to this forever! Strap it on tight! Strap it on tonight! Robbie baby!.... Still trynna find a CD.. dang! Go ahead knock yourself out!
Maybe it's because I'm a 90s kid and not an 80s kid, but the whole idea of a "Filthy Fifteen" is ludicrous to me. As the late, great Bill Hicks said, "When did sex become a bad thing?"
She is refering to a guy who enjoys being penetrated , and she also is refering to playing a more masculine role in the bedroom. SHe was so very edgy but still kept it very pretty.
I love this song as it represents a rock and roll sensibility for a woman who had concentrated almost exclusively on ballads and rather superficial sexual works. Vanity is a woman of incredible sensitivity, in a way a little girl, but she was cast as a sex goddess without limitations, a woman without constraints. This song is no different, but what separates it is the depth and the headlong rush into the abyss of the unknown. It's like driving 200mph toward a brick wall, and not giving a damn.
Thanks for the video. I never thought Id hear this song again. I traded my buddy this tape for til Tuesday's Voices Carry. I tried to get it back a few years ago but he said while in the Navy he traded it for another tape. Thanks again. Peace out...
I never could understand if this song was about Vanity putting a strap on for Robbie or if Robbie was putting a strap on for Vanity. Because why would Robbie need to put on a strap on if he has a d***?
That makes more sense. LOL. However, I still wonder why she uses quotation marks around "Robbie Baby" and that's what made me wonder if it meant something else...
I don't see what Tipper got her knickers in a twist about. It's just a rockin' tune about a girl and her...oh, wait, I get it. I'm starting to wish I hadn't had the volume up so high. Ah, what're they gonna do, revoke my library card?
