Dear Balconygrow, Just another thank-you for your great antidote for aphids. I live in Vancouver and have a ledge with a box to grow flowers and veg. Also two hanging baskets were the infestation started. Anyway the only place I could spray your mixture was in the tub. You should have seen the thousands of dead aphids that fell off. Thank-you.
This really works and iv'e had no problems with flies. Iv'e now got a bit of abandoned land near my apartment that iv'e turned into a garden and have also introduced ladybirds
well u jinxed me..I now have aphids eating up my eggplant I babied all winter and put outside some time ago and now its covered in little black bugs eating holes in it..am making ur concoction now..question, does the olive oil stop up the sprayer?? cuz 2 T. seems like alot of oil for just one pint of water/soap mixture and seems like the soap would break up the oil so that its worthless or floating on top so am wondering if u need oil at all?? what do u think?
@kokonutbaby1 I didn't have any problem with the oil clogging my sprayer. It is a means of getting the garlic into the mixture and it coats the little buggers so they can't breath. Hope this helps. ~Jeri
Beautiful garden. Wow you really did have an aphid infestation didn,t you. Glad you found a good home grown cure, I'll try to remember that if I have a problem this summer. I wonder if it would work on cabbage worms too? Did I catch a glimps of blue podded peas? I'm growing them for the first time.
@TK42138 I have tried Lady Bugs and Praying Mantis. But because of the high winds I get on the balcony (I live in a windy, desert valley) they get blown away.
@TK42138 I've made a bit of a wind break but it still isn't enough. We are talking winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to around 55 mph. Plus, we get hot hot sun (110-120 degrees F) in the summer and my balcony is in full sun so putting up clear plastic would just cook everything. The spray does the job and is organic and doesn't harm my plants at all. Thanks for the suggestion though. ~Jeri
Thanks so much for the tips, my plants are doing even better this year, i'll start putting them out on my balconey at the end of this month as i live in the uk.
I had so many problems with pests last year so this will really help me to make some of the organic solution. :)
Excellent! I've used a mild dish-soap solution before with good success but now I'll add some garlic-olive oil to the mix. Do you think it will also be good for other pests?
This information is GOLDEN..thank you :D My wife showed me your videos and we are doing our first garden this year. She is doing the porch garden like you are and I'm growing in a small bed. I say we are growing money plants :D
Little Garden of Eden on your patio. Very bountiful. Love the way you're taking care of your garden naturally with compost tea and the olive oil/garlic pest control.
Thanks so much for sharing another enjoyable and informative video.

Do you think it would be safe to use organic aphid spray directly on vegetables such as apsaragus, lettuce, cabbage, or celery?

if you use dish detergent and water in a spray container it works. I have never used olive oil and garlic. just the detergent and water.

@crewlla I have tried that too and it didn't work for me but this sure did. Thanks for the suggestion. ~Jeri

Good video.
See if you can get some Lady Bugs to stay on the leaves. They'll chomp through aphids like you wouldn't believe.

@BalconyGrow
Oh. I can see that would be a problem.
Is there any way you could make a wind-break out of clear plastic such as lexan/styrene etc?
