@cpaignforeva2010 Thank you for pointing that OUT dude "The only boxers who do mma are ones that couldnt cut it in boxing". Even back in the day, of kickboxing, most of them guys and early UFC, Pride fighters was boxers but they all cant take a HARD PUNCH. Imagine, a prime Tyson in the MMA, he would dominate those fighters. All that arm twisting and head butt, etc, Tyson did would be legal in MMA, making him even more dangerous.
@cpaignforeva2010 Toney is 0-1 & his next MMA bout is against Shamrock another ancient dinosaur that needs to retire & hasn't won but 3 of his last 12 fights. Even David Haye has considered an MMA career after boxing but understands he would have to train for years to get good at fighting in a full body combat sport.
@msbensucks LOL It doesn't really matter... beating a guy that has won 3 of his last 12 fights because he is old & washed up isn't a big victory. Better things to look forward to this year in MMA such as Lesnar vs Overeem which was just announced this week... or the free fight on Fox Cain vs JDS for the UFC heavyweight title.
@msbensucks Let em talk, I've always wanted a serious boxer to come over to MMA & find success. David Haye is considering the switch to MMA in the next few years & has been training for MMA the last 5+ years while still being a young top boxing heavyweight. IMO he is the first high ranking pro boxer that might find a level of success in UFC. I doubt he will ever be champion but It would be exciting to see Haye vs Overeem in an MMA match, a high level pro boxer vs high level pro kick boxer...
@cpaignforeva2010 Francois Botha (48-5) was only 33 & lost to a middleweight in MMA. He has fought 6 world champions & was a former world champion but couldn't last two minutes against Akiyama. His 3 losses prior to that where Wladimir Klitschko(8R); Lennox Lewis(2R); & Mike Tyson(5R). Yes Couture probably would dominate Klitchko in MMA, boxer's are not well rounded fighters. Klitchko isn't going to be able to stuff a takedown from an Olympic caliber grappler even one as old as Couture.
@cpaignforeva2010 Last I heard UFC 118 was Edgar headlining not Toney. UFC is the sport of fighting, champions of any other combative sport are given ex-champion caliber competition. To say MMA is pathetic is your opinion but face facts there have been zero champion boxers that have latest more than a round against any decent submission grapplers. That says something about the fighting style of boxing in that its limited at fighting athlete fighters in a full body combat sport. I like both!
If you put a disciplined sportsman in a ring with an animal, and you don't set any rules to the so-called "sport," and you call it a "sport" instead of what it really is, which is basically an ennobled bar brawl, then yes, the sportsman will lose.
You'd think that with all of the money that Mike has made he would be able to afford a speech therapist. Mike will always be the man(in 89-94 boxing)..but damn he sounds like a 6th grade "special" kid when he talks
As soon as a person starts comparing MMA and boxing then you know they have no fucking clue whatsoever and should probably go and watch wrestle mania.
@jph6696 Thanks, but Fedor is only 34 hes got a couples years to go i dont think hes that far out of his prime if he even is out of his prime an at all chuck didnt fall off till he was 37,and randy dont get me started with him,but Fedor still has alot of fight in him left he's just been gettibng beat by tough fighters.Oh yea and i don't know if Tiger woods is the best ever and if he's doing bad now he won't be because Jack Nickalaus has like 8 more PGA Tour victories then Tiger woods.
Youre want to compare an MMA fighter's punch to a boxers? Youre kidding me.
The higher the weight class of boxers, the heavier the gloves get bc of the padding: to save someones LIFE. You give Mike Tyson a 4 OZ glove used in MMA instead of the 14oz, someone will die. In fact, HUNDREDS of men have died in the ring in boxing. THATS how hard they can hit. Max Baer internally decapitated Frankie Cambell.
Dont tell me youre one of those blind MMA fools that dont respect boxing...
@medz91xc They didnt die on account of getting hit with 1 hard punch. It was the repeated blows to the head...the standing 8 count makes boxing way really risky, since it gives you time to recover some what where as in a mma fight the fighter would just get finished off on the ground.
Im not a statician, but it doesnt take a genius to know that a man who purely uses his hands to near kill someone in boxing will always have a chance in MMA. Considering boxing is a big part of MMA...
A high chance? Hell no. But as long as on his feet, he can sit and wait. Its the MMA guy's deicison on what to do, if he makes a mistake, he's going to sleep.
However, you put a "Jack of all trades, Master of none" MMA fighter in the ring, he'll see how hard a boxer can hit.
Yeah? Im biased huh...no. I grew up watching boxing, however I love to watch MMA.
My entire point is: I see guys everywhere thinking they can fight a boxer bc they think it would be so "easy" to take him down. You're kidding me....
These are also the ones that keep using the "Couture put down Toney like nothing" example. Idiots, Toney was over a decade past his prime. Put GSP, Couture, Rampage, anyone, it doesnt matter; into a boxing ring and they'll see who eats the canvas.
@TruNikkaz Understandable, UFC wannabes talk a lot of shit about boxing. I do martial arts (traditional) kickboxing &have competed in amature boxing and I respect all forms of fighting &most real fighters &martial artists feel the same way.
@TruNikkaz well it depends on a certain boxer cause some love MMA some hate. Tyson is not the only who happen to like mma. Shane Mosley also liked it too he even admitted it one of his interviews dat he was thinking about competing for it but he can't cause he's still getting promoted into big PPV fights and he's not fully trained into this sport.
A mountain bike does better on rough terrain. A racing bike does better on roads. The best pure boxer would lose against the best pure MMA fighter, and the MMA fighter would also lose against the boxer if the roles were reversed. What's the point in arguing over something so fundamentally obvious?
Tyson Ali hearnes Chavez in there prime would dominate any fighting sport by taking charge the first seconds of the fight Tyson and Chavez would probably kill people
No, way, tyson in his prime would useless, they would just take him and down and submit him, look what randy couture a 48yrs old did to james toney, look at what happened to ray mercer? its not the man but the art which makes a man win, unless both have equal skill.
Brock has the natural talent and size, he just does stupid shit in the ring. IE: Like trying to strike against Cain when that was one of the clear areas Cain was more skilled in. Fedor on the other hand, while not as physically built has damn good technique *usually*
I think if late 80s Tyson had a good ground game trainer he could do some decent work in MMA. Mike's head movement, punching power and hand speed was tip top, way better than some of the top MMA strikers today. He'd def. hurt em
dont know why tyson would like fedor ,fedor is a over weight fat ass and tyson a world class athlete. but brock is the best altough i dont know if he could beat mike.
'Glad to hear Tyson's doing ok. He's weathered a million and one proverbial storms, and he's still having a good time. I enjoyed this interview. Like him or hate him--people all over the world still listen to Iron Mike.
@1992lance I've heard conflicting stories. When he was at the juvenile detention center, I think that his intelligence was described as being medically "retarded", and his performances at Catskill High School were troubled. At prison, though, he appparently scored high grades in subjects like English, Maths, and even Mandarin (although I doubt the latter), possibly because he had more time on his hands. I think he has a pretty high brain capacity, but hasn't had the chance (or desire) to use it
There is no one on the planet who has the combination of unique life experience and insight, honesty and openness, humility, and sheer unpredictability (and potential insanity) as Mike Tyson in an interview. I just realized that he is The Greatest Interviewee That Has Ever Lived.
Fedor is the best statistically. All this hype for promoting/advertizing to sell fights is pathetic. Saying he's the champ, no he's the champ, no he's not this guy is. BULLSHIT. FEDOR IS THE BEST. He's not my favorite fighter but I'll admit he'sthe best
I always thought Mike Tyson would've been awesome in MMA. It just so happened that he stayed with boxing because it pays more. Since he's retired from boxing, he should consider fighting in MMA.
OK I HOPE THIS ENDS THE DISCUSSION OF BOXING VS MMA.... GRAPPLING OR BJJ IS PROVEN TO BE THE MARTIAL ART THAT IS BEST IN A FIGHT, AND BJJ/GRAPPLING IS A BIG PART OF MMA SO... MMA = WINS!
I'll pick Lesnar because, Lesnar is a pro mixed martial artist which he can fight anywhere and Tyson can't, he is enormous and very very strong, he can literally pick Tyson up and throw him like its nothing, he punches hard, but not harder than Tyson, but still can rock Tyson, he have more reach than Tyson, he moves like a lightweight, Tyson is just a brawler that only knows punching and Lesnar knows everything like kicking, punching, takedowns, grappling etc....
@Obhi33Lesnar would kill Tyson. We saw what Randy did to James Toney. Lesnar would not box Tyson he would pick him up and slam him and maybe break his neck and would ground and pound him into hamburger meat.
@Obhi33 You dont know real fighting. Brock lesnar wouldnt be the only who could beat him. Randy couture. Any top 10 UFC light hevyweight can, much less a cain velasquez. I mean you've never even explained James toney. I mean that was a joke. What was it less than a minute and toney was on his back being choked out. LOL I like Mike, but even Mike knows. He's a big fan of the sport.
@Malk64 Oh I know Kimbo beat Ray Mercer. In fact it was a great fight and one big argument AGAINST boxers fighting MMA style and also is a strong argument against this same old UFC-Dana White argument that Kimbo Sucks. But yes, of course shit does happen. Fedor found that out, Mike Tyson found that out, Muhammad Ali found that out, all of the greatest fighters in history from UFC to Pro Boxing will find out at some point that inevitably... shit happens. and they get knocked out.
@MassiveFrog Ya. Not surprising that Tim Sylvia got knocked out, though. Remember he was fighting a former world-class boxer whose entire career is mostly dedicated to his striking.
The surprising thing was that Mercer tried to swoop for a takedown after, lulz.
@Malk64 funny thing is, and the guys on InsideMMA picked up on this, is that Tim Sylvia post-fight was saying "oh well he told me to be a man and stand up with him and I shouldn't have done that I should've gone for the takedowns" etc etc. but it's funny he said that cause it was originally gonna be a boxing match in the first place. So what he would've done then when he wouldn't even be allowed to go for takedowns or even kick is pretty funny to think about. Probably pretty much the same result
@MassiveFrog Yes its true like you said above shit happens, but Tim Sylvia sux. MMA fighters are constantly evolving and getting better. Tim was stupid enough to slug it out with a former pro boxing champion so he got ko;d. Chuck Lidell would probably be ko'd too because his menatality is that way too. Rember also Mercer has been cross training, but he won because Sylvias stupidity. Remeber Kimbo beat Mercer in his first pro fight because he had Bas give him the right strategy.
@MassiveFrog BTW it's not meant as a disrespect to Mike Tyson. I've actually come to like him alot in recent yrs. Since he's found peace in his life, he's a very funny guy. Which I'm glad for him he seems much happier.
@IMnotSAS are you really that stupid and ignorant like the majority of mma fans.you are comparing james toney to mike tyson? james toney in his prime is a middleweight. that's 160 pounds in boxing. he was 15 years remove from his prime. you fight any good professional in the streeet and they would kill any human being with one punch and don't need that gay stuff called grapling, hugging you mma fans so really like. mma is popular because it makes people believe they could fight.
@medz91xc speak the truth bro fuck ju jiutsu punk ass fools scarred of fighting real men i just respect boxers and muy thai combat sports but boxing reigns supreme
@medz91xc That's a good point, an 'average' guy in the street vs a pro boxer.... no shit the boxer wins. As for grappling being useless against boxing, I suggest you watch UFC 1 where there were NO weight classes and a welterweight choked out and submitted heavy weight strikers at will. These strikers were from boxing, karate, kung fu, thai boxing etc.... MMA is just that Mixed martial arts. Perhaps a boxer could beat an MMA fighter, it's not impossible. It would be the exception, not the rule.
Yes,that is all true. I just HATE it when all these new found MMA fans who have watched 2 fights of a boxing match and watch UFC when they can, call themselves "experts" about fighting, oh, and probably never gotten into a fight in their eintire lives.
Theyre the ones always seeming to have to prove something about MMA. Maybe bc the entire world still repsects Boxing over MMA thats why. When theres a champoionship boxing mathc, the views and money reeled in holds that true.
@medz91xc lol everyone is an expert here - thats the beauty of youtube! Granted, boxing is bigger atm, however, MMA appears to be closing the gap. IMO give it 10 years and I think boxing and MMA will be on an equal footing. I'd say I boxed about 15 years ago, but the truth is I trained and got my arse kicked on a regular basis, so I've been interested in boxing for a while. That said, I now prefer MMA. Reason being, boxing is the sport of punching, MMA the sport of fighting. Both are cool IMO.
Haha yeah, everyones an expert on youtube. I at least try to bring relative examples and facts when I comment, unlike most ignorant people.
Yes, MMA is growing, and I'm sure one day it will be just as big as boxing. But the purist in me still thinks that people all over the world dont want to see a man getting on top of another, nearly bashing his face in, and would still call that a "sport".
@medz91xc You know I agree with you, most people don't want to see a match dominated by a grappling war. However, I'd say that's because as you put it most people are ignorant. I'm reasonably new to MMA and have only been really following it for about 5 years, more seriously in the last 2-3. I will say this about grappling it's boring to those who don't really understand it.
I hope you dont think I'm under appreciating the ground game. Wrestling is the hardest sport next to Olympic running or swimming. I'm just stating that from a spectator's viewpoint, it seems a bit redundant and you really cant see whats going on if youre not watching it on T.V or in front row.
However, just like Olympic running or swimming, the layman wont understand wrestling/ground game as simply as who can throw the hardest punch, hardest kick, or whos the quicker fighter. IMO
@medz91xc No, not at all. And let's face it even Dana White appreciates a spectacular knockout, he even awards a bonus to the fighter deemed to have the 'knockout of the night'. It's like anything I guess, if you don't understand it, how can you appreciate it. I bet those same laymen on the street who love the knockout don't truly understand the art in which it was delivered. They don't see the set up in the head movement, footwork, postioning and previous combinations. They just see the KO.
@medz91xc And it's those same idiots that say 'Tyson wouldn't last 5 mins in the UFC'. That's just retarded. Tyson in his prime was the most athletic, powerful, unique fighter boxing has ever seen. IMO I think even Ali would have struggled to contain him, who would have won out of those two is anyones guess. Anyway, if Tyson goes in as a boxer and doesn't work on any other aspect of fighting (like Toney) then yes, he woudn't last 5 mins. IMO had he been trained as an MMA fighter he'd ...
I'm glad theres people out there like you in world who arent ignorant and just go out proclaiming that a boxer has no chance in the octagon. A boxer will always have a chance, they know that the MMA guy will only try to take him down unless they know Muy Thai. In that case, anyone with a brain knows to keep their distance.
However, I wonder if these blind MMA fans thinks an MMA fighter has the slightest chance in the ring...
@medz91xc A lot of MMA fighters have competed and won in pro boxing. Obviously the boxing matches weren't against top names but many of them can hang with the lower ranked pro's.
@medz91xc Muay Thai for the most part will give Boxers a tough fight, and an all around kickboxer using 8 points of striking, as a lot of MMA fighters have, including the takedowns. Theres a wide array of options for MMA fighters when boxers only have one, and thats slim unless the other fighter is willing to stand and just exchange punches only. Once kicks, knees, elbows, clinch and potential takedowns are involved, boxers are thrown off and llower their guard and can get caught themselves.
@12jahwarrior Using money as a means of reason is irrelevant. Just because a boxer is making more than an MMA fighter, doesn't make them more skilled. That makes no sense.
@12jahwarrior Boxing has been around for a long time and it big business man, money isnt everything. Mma fighters are making more and more these days and i watch boxing too but it seems these mma organizations are putting on more exciting shows, the last klitchko fight was boring as hell, at the same the ufc that aired alongside was way better. I wish there would be more of a merge of the two sports but why would an mma fighter give up his technique as opposed to a boxer adapting ground game?
@medz91xc And its obvious you dont have much understanding of the sport, because there are plenty of guys who have actual Boxing backgrounds and have competed in the ring themselves. And one that comes to mind would actually give a lot of HW boxers a run, and that would be Junior Dos Santos. But theres KJ Noons, Chris Lytle, Sam Stout, Mark Hominick, and the list goes on when it comes to guys who actually competed professionally or amateur in boxing alone. So do some research..
@medz91xc every MMA fighter knows aspects of Muiy Thai, roundhouse kicks and high kicks and elbows that mma incorporates is from styles such as muiy thai and karate.
Another blind MMA fan that tries to prove something against a purist...James Toney was a joke, in boxing he was a joke, A NOBODY.
His mouth has always gotten him fights and the fight between him and Couture was no different. It was to GET HIM MONEY. He didnt train at all for the fight, he suckered all you idiots in to watch it on paper view to get himself a pay check and you fell for it.
Toney was washed out 10 years ago in boxing. He just wanted to make money.
@medz91xc Yes this is true but in a fight with no rules a MMA fighter beats a BOXER every time. Its called BJJ the best pure fighting style not boxing. Just watch ufc 1 when Royce Gracie tapped out Art Jimmerson. And this was when Art Jimmerson was in his prime. A perfect example of Boxing vs. Bjj. Royce Gracie didn't even know how to throw a jab and he won in 2mins. Jus imagine what todays MMA fighters would do to a boxer.
@BoricuaAltaHueso787 We have seen many pro boxers already lose to MMA fighters on top of Gracie Jimmerson; Toney vs Couture, Toney choked out in 3min; Kazushi Sakuraba vs Rubin Williams, Williams was kimura in under 3 min; Francois Botha(heavyweight & former champion) got tap via armbar in under two minutes by Yoshihiro Akiyama(middleweight) debut in MMA; & lets not forget about poor Ray Mercer getting choked out in a minute by Kimbo. Sylvia was dumb for agreeing to stand up & trade with Mercer.
@SUPERARBITERZILLA Tell that to james toney, because in real life there is know referee & he would have been killed if there wasn't someone to break the choke. All the boxing skills in the world don't prepare you to stop an Olympic calliber grappler from imposing his will.
@Immortalsyn83 no decent boxers go to mma. why? because decent boxers can make 10 times more than an mma fighter. i am still waiting for an MMA fighter to enter the ring.
@hustleboy62 Many MMA fighters have done boxing, Cris Lytle 13–1; Marcus Davis 17-1; Alessio Sakara 6-1; Yosuke Nishijima 24-2; K.J. Noons 11-2. The difference in athletes is a MMA fighter with an iron chin can actually survive more than a single round in boxing. Boxer's are master's of their craft but they are far from the best well rounded fighters. MMA fighters are pioneers of a growing sport, top fighters still make millions in MMA. Boxing has had over a century to put money in the sport.
@medz91xc also, if Tyson had been trained, he could have had an excellent ground game. My point is that Tyson had the potential to be the greatest all around fighter of all time. That's my opinion, of course.
@medz91xc held in the same regard he is in boxing. He's just too athletic, and aggressive. He'd likely fight at LHW and with his power could match it with wrestlers and out strike strikers. In the right hands he may even have had a decent submission game too. I'd envision he'd be the same type of MMA fighter as Rampage jackson who primarily relies on a wrestling/boxing combo. I actually think Mike would have had a period of sustained success, much like his reign in boxing. we'll never know tho.
@medz91xc I can now enjoy a grappling match, because I'm beginning to gain more of an awareness about the technicality and skill involved. To those who don't follow it, or understand it, I can easily see how it would be boring. As the sport grows, more people will begin to understand it, and appreciate it IMO. I get where you're coming from though man, and respect that viewpoint.
Boxing on the other hand, is a gentlemans sport. It has strict rules and regulations governing it, unlike MMA.
Is MMA more entertaining to watch when its just a straight brawl and no grappling? Yes, of course it is.
However, is boxing entertaining to watch when there is just a straight brawl and limited clinching? Yes it is also.
I beleive that people over the world dont wanna see 2 guys act like savages and who fight like theyre in war, over boxing match. But, hey, my 2 cents.
Yeah? If I step in the ring right now I'd get KO'd. Give Mike Tyson 3 months to train and you'll see who's gonna eat the canvas. Toney punches like a little girl compared to Mike.
Tyson would do nothing. Noone would stand with him - everyone would take him to ground and finish in whatever way possible. He is wau too one dimensional.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Wow...Tyson is part retard...too many shots to the head in his last few fights. He tries to use words (to sound smart) he does not know the meaning of. Did he have his tongue removed? What the hell is wrong with him?

@jph6696 Thanks, but Fedor is only 34 hes got a couples years to go i dont think hes that far out of his prime if he even is out of his prime an at all chuck didnt fall off till he was 37,and randy dont get me started with him,but Fedor still has alot of fight in him left he's just been gettibng beat by tough fighters.Oh yea and i don't know if Tiger woods is the best ever and if he's doing bad now he won't be because Jack Nickalaus has like 8 more PGA Tour victories then Tiger woods.

@MillerIsJesus
Dont tell me youre one of those blind MMA fools that dont respect boxing...
medz91xc 8 months ago
@medz91xc They didnt die on account of getting hit with 1 hard punch. It was the repeated blows to the head...the standing 8 count makes boxing way really risky, since it gives you time to recover some what where as in a mma fight the fighter would just get finished off on the ground.
joeyant24 7 months ago
@MillerIsJesus
However, you put a "Jack of all trades, Master of none" MMA fighter in the ring, he'll see how hard a boxer can hit.
medz91xc 8 months ago
@MillerIsJesus

He'd def. hurt em

fireblast245 1 year ago
I'll pick Lesnar because, Lesnar is a pro mixed martial artist which he can fight anywhere and Tyson can't, he is enormous and very very strong, he can literally pick Tyson up and throw him like its nothing, he punches hard, but not harder than Tyson, but still can rock Tyson, he have more reach than Tyson, he moves like a lightweight, Tyson is just a brawler that only knows punching and Lesnar knows everything like kicking, punching, takedowns, grappling etc....

MassiveFrog 1 year ago
@MassiveFrog Don't forget Kimbo beat Ray Mercer. Musashi beat Ray Mercer. Remy Bonjasky took away Ray Mercer's pride.
But yeah, shit happens. Tim Sylvia getting KO'd made me lol.
I was thinking "Wow, this guy was an ex-UFC champion? Putting his hands up as if he knew how to use them."
Malk64 1 year ago
@Malk64 Oh I know Kimbo beat Ray Mercer. In fact it was a great fight and one big argument AGAINST boxers fighting MMA style and also is a strong argument against this same old UFC-Dana White argument that Kimbo Sucks. But yes, of course shit does happen. Fedor found that out, Mike Tyson found that out, Muhammad Ali found that out, all of the greatest fighters in history from UFC to Pro Boxing will find out at some point that inevitably... shit happens. and they get knocked out.
MassiveFrog 1 year ago
@MassiveFrog Ya. Not surprising that Tim Sylvia got knocked out, though. Remember he was fighting a former world-class boxer whose entire career is mostly dedicated to his striking.
The surprising thing was that Mercer tried to swoop for a takedown after, lulz.
Malk64 1 year ago
@Malk64 funny thing is, and the guys on InsideMMA picked up on this, is that Tim Sylvia post-fight was saying "oh well he told me to be a man and stand up with him and I shouldn't have done that I should've gone for the takedowns" etc etc. but it's funny he said that cause it was originally gonna be a boxing match in the first place. So what he would've done then when he wouldn't even be allowed to go for takedowns or even kick is pretty funny to think about. Probably pretty much the same result
MassiveFrog 1 year ago
@MassiveFrog Yes its true like you said above shit happens, but Tim Sylvia sux. MMA fighters are constantly evolving and getting better. Tim was stupid enough to slug it out with a former pro boxing champion so he got ko;d. Chuck Lidell would probably be ko'd too because his menatality is that way too. Rember also Mercer has been cross training, but he won because Sylvias stupidity. Remeber Kimbo beat Mercer in his first pro fight because he had Bas give him the right strategy.
xmanrules2001 1 year ago
@MassiveFrog BTW it's not meant as a disrespect to Mike Tyson. I've actually come to like him alot in recent yrs. Since he's found peace in his life, he's a very funny guy. Which I'm glad for him he seems much happier.

IMnotSAS 9 months ago
@IMnotSAS are you really that stupid and ignorant like the majority of mma fans.you are comparing james toney to mike tyson? james toney in his prime is a middleweight. that's 160 pounds in boxing. he was 15 years remove from his prime. you fight any good professional in the streeet and they would kill any human being with one punch and don't need that gay stuff called grapling, hugging you mma fans so really like. mma is popular because it makes people believe they could fight.
medz91xc 9 months ago
@medz91xc speak the truth bro fuck ju jiutsu punk ass fools scarred of fighting real men i just respect boxers and muy thai combat sports but boxing reigns supreme
fulaschicano714 9 months ago
@medz91xc That's a good point, an 'average' guy in the street vs a pro boxer.... no shit the boxer wins. As for grappling being useless against boxing, I suggest you watch UFC 1 where there were NO weight classes and a welterweight choked out and submitted heavy weight strikers at will. These strikers were from boxing, karate, kung fu, thai boxing etc.... MMA is just that Mixed martial arts. Perhaps a boxer could beat an MMA fighter, it's not impossible. It would be the exception, not the rule.
w0y1z92753 9 months ago
@w0y1z92753
When theres a champoionship boxing mathc, the views and money reeled in holds that true.
medz91xc 9 months ago
@medz91xc lol everyone is an expert here - thats the beauty of youtube! Granted, boxing is bigger atm, however, MMA appears to be closing the gap. IMO give it 10 years and I think boxing and MMA will be on an equal footing. I'd say I boxed about 15 years ago, but the truth is I trained and got my arse kicked on a regular basis, so I've been interested in boxing for a while. That said, I now prefer MMA. Reason being, boxing is the sport of punching, MMA the sport of fighting. Both are cool IMO.
w0y1z92753 9 months ago
@w0y1z92753
Haha yeah, everyones an expert on youtube. I at least try to bring relative examples and facts when I comment, unlike most ignorant people.
Yes, MMA is growing, and I'm sure one day it will be just as big as boxing. But the purist in me still thinks that people all over the world dont want to see a man getting on top of another, nearly bashing his face in, and would still call that a "sport".
medz91xc 9 months ago
@medz91xc You know I agree with you, most people don't want to see a match dominated by a grappling war. However, I'd say that's because as you put it most people are ignorant. I'm reasonably new to MMA and have only been really following it for about 5 years, more seriously in the last 2-3. I will say this about grappling it's boring to those who don't really understand it.
w0y1z92753 9 months ago
@w0y1z92753
IMO
medz91xc 9 months ago
@medz91xc No, not at all. And let's face it even Dana White appreciates a spectacular knockout, he even awards a bonus to the fighter deemed to have the 'knockout of the night'. It's like anything I guess, if you don't understand it, how can you appreciate it. I bet those same laymen on the street who love the knockout don't truly understand the art in which it was delivered. They don't see the set up in the head movement, footwork, postioning and previous combinations. They just see the KO.
w0y1z92753 9 months ago
@medz91xc And it's those same idiots that say 'Tyson wouldn't last 5 mins in the UFC'. That's just retarded. Tyson in his prime was the most athletic, powerful, unique fighter boxing has ever seen. IMO I think even Ali would have struggled to contain him, who would have won out of those two is anyones guess. Anyway, if Tyson goes in as a boxer and doesn't work on any other aspect of fighting (like Toney) then yes, he woudn't last 5 mins. IMO had he been trained as an MMA fighter he'd ...
w0y1z92753 9 months ago
@w0y1z92753
Oh yes, that is a very possible scenario.
However, I wonder if these blind MMA fans thinks an MMA fighter has the slightest chance in the ring...
medz91xc 9 months ago 21
@medz91xc A lot of MMA fighters have competed and won in pro boxing. Obviously the boxing matches weren't against top names but many of them can hang with the lower ranked pro's.
joeyant24 7 months ago
@medz91xc Muay Thai for the most part will give Boxers a tough fight, and an all around kickboxer using 8 points of striking, as a lot of MMA fighters have, including the takedowns. Theres a wide array of options for MMA fighters when boxers only have one, and thats slim unless the other fighter is willing to stand and just exchange punches only. Once kicks, knees, elbows, clinch and potential takedowns are involved, boxers are thrown off and llower their guard and can get caught themselves.
magician234 6 months ago
@magician234 apparently they werent too good cause everyone knows that boxing makes way more money if youre good.food for thought.
12jahwarrior 6 months ago
@12jahwarrior Using money as a means of reason is irrelevant. Just because a boxer is making more than an MMA fighter, doesn't make them more skilled. That makes no sense.
magician234 6 months ago
@12jahwarrior Boxing has been around for a long time and it big business man, money isnt everything. Mma fighters are making more and more these days and i watch boxing too but it seems these mma organizations are putting on more exciting shows, the last klitchko fight was boring as hell, at the same the ufc that aired alongside was way better. I wish there would be more of a merge of the two sports but why would an mma fighter give up his technique as opposed to a boxer adapting ground game?
msbensucks 4 months ago
@medz91xc And its obvious you dont have much understanding of the sport, because there are plenty of guys who have actual Boxing backgrounds and have competed in the ring themselves. And one that comes to mind would actually give a lot of HW boxers a run, and that would be Junior Dos Santos. But theres KJ Noons, Chris Lytle, Sam Stout, Mark Hominick, and the list goes on when it comes to guys who actually competed professionally or amateur in boxing alone. So do some research..

He just wanted to make money.
medz91xc 6 months ago
@medz91xc Yes this is true but in a fight with no rules a MMA fighter beats a BOXER every time. Its called BJJ the best pure fighting style not boxing. Just watch ufc 1 when Royce Gracie tapped out Art Jimmerson. And this was when Art Jimmerson was in his prime. A perfect example of Boxing vs. Bjj. Royce Gracie didn't even know how to throw a jab and he won in 2mins. Jus imagine what todays MMA fighters would do to a boxer.
BoricuaAltaHueso787 6 months ago

SUPERARBITERZILLA 5 months ago
@SUPERARBITERZILLA Tell that to james toney, because in real life there is know referee & he would have been killed if there wasn't someone to break the choke. All the boxing skills in the world don't prepare you to stop an Olympic calliber grappler from imposing his will.
Immortalsyn83 5 months ago
@Immortalsyn83 no decent boxers go to mma. why? because decent boxers can make 10 times more than an mma fighter. i am still waiting for an MMA fighter to enter the ring.
hustleboy62 5 months ago
@hustleboy62 Many MMA fighters have done boxing, Cris Lytle 13–1; Marcus Davis 17-1; Alessio Sakara 6-1; Yosuke Nishijima 24-2; K.J. Noons 11-2. The difference in athletes is a MMA fighter with an iron chin can actually survive more than a single round in boxing. Boxer's are master's of their craft but they are far from the best well rounded fighters. MMA fighters are pioneers of a growing sport, top fighters still make millions in MMA. Boxing has had over a century to put money in the sport.
Immortalsyn83 5 months ago
@medz91xc also, if Tyson had been trained, he could have had an excellent ground game. My point is that Tyson had the potential to be the greatest all around fighter of all time. That's my opinion, of course.
TheDavid2222 4 months ago
@medz91xc Alot of mma fighters come from pro boxing. So yeah some of them would stand a decent chance.
msbensucks 4 months ago
@medz91xc held in the same regard he is in boxing. He's just too athletic, and aggressive. He'd likely fight at LHW and with his power could match it with wrestlers and out strike strikers. In the right hands he may even have had a decent submission game too. I'd envision he'd be the same type of MMA fighter as Rampage jackson who primarily relies on a wrestling/boxing combo. I actually think Mike would have had a period of sustained success, much like his reign in boxing. we'll never know tho.
w0y1z92753 9 months ago
@medz91xc I can now enjoy a grappling match, because I'm beginning to gain more of an awareness about the technicality and skill involved. To those who don't follow it, or understand it, I can easily see how it would be boring. As the sport grows, more people will begin to understand it, and appreciate it IMO. I get where you're coming from though man, and respect that viewpoint.
w0y1z92753 9 months ago
@w0y1z92753

Wow...Tyson is part retard...too many shots to the head in his last few fights. He tries to use words (to sound smart) he does not know the meaning of. Did he have his tongue removed? What the hell is wrong with him?
