  • Comment removed

  • @Taiginator Your not Scottish or English though, your American.

  • lol at 0:10 Lee Evans plays bagpipes too? :D

  • @Taiginator If you count The Queen's relation to James I as a relation then she is equally, if not more so, related to English monarchs as well.

  • God save Britain!

I'm just speaking from the heart, I love my homeland and will always believe England doesn't deserve it, just like America doesn't deserve the many cultures that were forced into submission. England is a great Nation but Scotland is still above all others.

  • @urbankhat65 depends how long you been playing for, but if you just play through it slowly for sometime and memorize it and make sure its clean with no crossing noises you can speed it up and it sounds good :)

  • Since when did the British Army use plastic spats!!

    There's a shine on them!

You don't get that when you use whitener!

  • @MacArthurPiper

Mil Bands have used thm for as far back as i know

  • So beautiful.

  • THAT BAND WAS PRESENT ALSO AT THE KREMLIN ZORIA, I SAW. THE MAIN PIPER OF THIS REGIMENTAL BAND PLAYED LIKE SOLIST THE START OF AMAZING GRACE ON THE RED SQUARE.

  • It always gives me a great impression and emotion. I heard and saw them in Edinburgh, in 1999 for the first time, and i'm looking forward going again to feel that wonderful music. I love Scotland!

  • Get the old Regiments back, this makes us look crap one single Regiment.

  • very good=)

  • I am trying to translate the uniforms into my US Marine issued brain. I get the different uniforms for the pipers, and I can see who is the pipe major. There are a couple of bandsmen that have a white sash or diagonal belt across the chest and a sword or sabre. Are these bandsnen officers?

  • @jwslider1

Yes and No ... if you catch the drift

  • @jwslider1 The Pipe Major is easy recognisable also because he is the man ON THE RIGHT. The two fellows in the band you referred to are the Bandmaster and the Band Sergeant Major, both entitled (along with the DOM) to wear a Broadsword with belt and Regimental plaque on the front.

  • @PUCCINIMUSICK I got the Pipe Major and Drum Major and DOM - Many times the DOM in the USMC is a Warrant Officer - or Limited Duty Officer. Look closely, however, there is a trombonist with a sword. USMC has an NCO sabre and an officer sword, so he may be an NCO. After 24 years I guess I can see the little differences. It makes sense that the Pipe Major is on the right of the front rank - that is the senior position. I notice when the pipe major leads the band he marches in the front rank.

  • @jwslider1

Sword at 2:19, second group (of four) from the left.

  • A magnificent job...well performed.. I raise my hat to you...

  • I hope people dont confuse this with the ROYAL REGIMENT OF SCOTLAND... IE the Black Watch. had to look for a moment until I saw how they dressed... dear me....

Both myself and three brothers served in the Black Watch. Music acceptable though..

  • Foreigners of Celtic extraction - don't be fooled!, "Highland" regiments have not been Gaidhlig-speaking Highlanders, and therefore not Highland, and therefore not Scottish since the 1820s.

  • @eoghanbeg Rubbish!!

  • @eoghanbeg Partially right: the Seaforth and Camerons were "highland" regiments through and through in their ranks inspite of the fact the officers were mainly English in order to avoid riots and mutiny. But in these two regiments among the ranks the percentage of Irish recruits was very low and the Gaelic language in use as much as they could. Nothing to say about the other units where English was "the" Language. Even in my beloved Gordons, whose 1st Battalion was made of English-born people

  • well done guys!

  • Soul Music!

  • I'm no purist, nor musician, nor even a Scot, but I love the mixtue of brass with the pipes and drums.

I said just this week, that the evening we heard the pipes of the 5 th Batallion with the Band of the Irish Guards in Worchester Massachusetts a few months ago was perhaps the most enjoyable entertainment of my life..

The friendliness of the young bandsmen back from iraq , made it even more touching.

Thank you for providing and thank you to them for their service even to us new England Yankees.

  • Amazing. Truely amazing. Love from America.

  • superb

  • i love it ;D !!!!!!

  • To Scots soldiers serving or seved in middle east. THANK YOU ~!

    Tom Loughlin Jr Utica NY

  • playing in full dress without spats looks funny!!

  • Un Régiment qui a fait ses preuves et témoigne de son appartenance... D. protège l'Ecosse

  • Welcome home all anyway!!

  • i love bagpipes. so original and mighty. Thats why i play them. And soon, i'll be moving back to Scotland. SCOTLAND FOR LIFE!

  • oh my bad! sister!!! hahahaha i feel bad!

  • @Bric1022 Please dont!! I've been called worse things than brother lol!!!

  • ok hahaha!

  • I was there in WW2..me and all of my friends shat ourselves in a hasty manner as we ran for the hills..

  • You're 22 according to your profile. Have you perfected time travel? Or is WW2 a doughnut shop?

  • to Briselance

    to MacToronto

    to 1974PeaceMaker

now we enjoy the sound of the pipes , and we drink some beers with friends from all around the world .

    cheers , from a german

respect to all fallen soldiers , hope it will never happen again

  • @zombiebarricade71 Don't forget the whiskey !

  • I can't remember where, nor when, but I read that, during WW2, in 1944, in Normandy, a German unit fled when they heard the bagpipes of the Blakwatch drawing near.

Can anybody confirm or infirm this, please ?

  • During WWI the Germans called them the Angels from Hell...so it was likely then they fled.

  • @MacToronto yes i read something similar , they called them wailing devils, if the germans ever heard bagpipes they shat themselves, .

i think bagpipes are quite haunting

  • I know that if I was an enemy listening at a number of bagpipes coming closer to my position through a fog, I would definaly shit myself.

  • me too im scared of my own mother lol

  • @Briselance i have read reports like that they callled the scotts the wailing devils or something like that becuase the pipes teriffied them .#

when i did the bayonet assult course in the army they had the pipes playing and it got my blood up i was fighting like a dog , they really set your juices flowing ,#

no excuse for running away but im sure it put the wind up anyone

  • @Briselance armys use drums becuase music alters moods and talks to you , the drums are a low density sound which can scare the faint of heart.

soldiers have always used them to sike there soldiers up

  • Rubbish.

Germans weren't afraid of bagpipers. On the other hand, one young German tank commander destroyed one whole Allied tank division by himself in Normandy. (Ps My respect to Scotland)

  • @Domobransky

Germans ? Not afraid of bagpipers ? Maybe. Maybe not.

But they were surely not too happy about fighting Scottish Regiments.

The tank commander you're speaking about, wouldn't that be Michael Wittmann ?

Indeed, he did a great amount of damage : he destroyed an entire British column, belonging to the 8th British Army, the famous "Desert Rats", which was round about 25-35 tanks and A.P.C.. But not an entire division.

Hell, that's too many vehicules for just one tank.

  • the bagpipes mix well with the brass instruments ... good sound, very lively

  • Don't be so precious. nothing worse than a musical snob no matter the music style. And yes, I'm from a piping family who also play other instruments including brass, strings, percussion and woodwind.

  • All you had to say was that you disliked the mix of brass and pipes as others have already said on this post, that's voicing an opinion rather than trying to state a fact. No need for the acid comments about brass being c**p. I cannot stand the sound of the harmonica but wouldn't be rude about it.

  • What a charming person you are, a private message littered with the F word and some ridiculous comment about goats??? I'm a Scots expat lving temporarily in the ME for a couple of years returning home next year. Perhaps I could have responded by telling you to go skipping through the tulips with your harmonica but I'm not that childish :)

  • @Platschheimer sometimes i reckon they go together well but i just think pipes with drums are the best, like i love it when they play highland cathedral with a brass band but apart from that i am not really into brass and pipes but its just me

  • Edinburgh Military Tattoo tomorrow lol

  • very good video, makes you proud to be a scot :)

but they cud improve ther salutes cos ther a bit weird lol

  • @TheScotlandtheBrave it's listed in the info. the beginning was itchy fingers then clumsy lover and it finished with Scotland the Brave.

  • itchy fingers

  • SUPER NICE PIECE AND VIDEO

  • highland games peine 2010

so etwas muß man live sehen1

  • Yes, it would be great to see it live. Love this stuff

  • Robertson Tartan

  • this is great! clumsy lover is my favorite tune, and with the band, i LOVED it

  • tears in my eyes !! Wonderful, to see , to hear~~~~ my eyes , filled , were trying to catch the Tartans , did , I see, the Royal Stewart Tartans, ??? IF ANYONE CAN HELP OUT HERE , WITH THE TARTANS WOULD BE APPRICIATED ,,God Bless & Thank-you

  • the dark green is goverment tartan or black watch tartan . it is the regimental tartan of the royal regiment of scotland

  • The tartans are:

ROYAL REGIMENT OF SCOTLAND( A light-toned version of the old Black Watch or Government n.1 Tartan)

PIPERS: CAMERON OF ERRACHT (the only Military tartan which is not strictly based on the Government one)

  • dont like the mix of brass and pipes. it doesnt do it for me.

  • Thanks to pipinfmonkey for the information.

  • Can anyone tell me the title of the first music ?

  • It is Itchy Fingers, then The Clumsy Lover, then Scotland The Brave

  • Carloline, "Scotland the Brave".

  • Just ...Pure Magic...bagpipes and band coming together in perfect harmony and musicianship...wow...hard to express my joy at watching this....I can only hope I can take my children to see them one day

  • I definately want to see them play now.

Thats simply wonderful, love that sort of music, its ace nothing can possible describe it!

I didnt think they'd go well together at the thought of it but thats done to perfection!

  • Winnie- You and I seem to have a love of marching bands in common. I encountered yoru video of Hoch Heidicksburg and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I am in a small brass marching band in New Jersey (USA). I play valve trombone myself.

Please keep up these wonder posts.

  • hey all. I'm an American with pure Scottish heratige. Thinking of moving to Scottland. Is this difficult/impossible? Your advice is welcomed. Also I'm a classical musician (horn)

  • I don't think it's that difficult. I live in Scotland and my neighbours that just moved in are from Oregon. Recession's meant that there aren't many jobs - though depends what you do.

  • the soldiers were sooooo good. What ever happened to our regiments, the Camerons, the Black Watch and the Argylle and S highlanders. After today watching the remembrance carry on at the Cenotpath with all the high hie hied yiens, does it not make you wonder why our lads are there in the first place??

  • Wow !!! What a beautiful mix of bagpipes and band.

  • alvindurochermtl sorry! didnt mean to question your military cred. stupidly didnt think of canada, more scottish regiments there than we have in scotia now. canadian troops throughout time, have been (with the scots, and others) the bravest of the brave. my military career started in 1964 when i became a boy drummer with 15 batt. parachute regt (TA) glasgow. at 17 and a bit joined the royal signals, served for three years transferring into the RMP service in the far east and in NI. then TA 3yrs

  • Wonderful. I could listen to this all day long.

  • Aye this is what the pathological liar, traitor and war criminal tony b'liar left of Scotlands regimental pipes and drums! Before this wee bxstard and his nest of vermin got their degenerate claws into them every one of our regiments had their own pipes and drums all with their own distinct forms!

  • As an ex-Grenadier Guardsman the pipes and drum of the Scots made a parade and made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up with pride. There's no sound like it in the world.

  • 'HOW TO HAMMER DOWN A GOOD SET OF OLD HORNPIPES IN ONE LESSON' were the subtitles in my mind's eye...

  • Get lost

  • Bugger off yourself, barbarian

  • Barbarian LOL!! Such a compliment from a Brazilian :D

  • scotsbell/acrominton, ah thought a brazilian was a hairdo roon aboot the nether regions. ahm a right or am a merangue (oops! naw, ahm a cake)

the bagpipes should be right up a brazilians street, you know! the traditional brazilian sport of octopus wrestling on dry land (nominated olympic event) acrominton, if you can find the start and the end of the set of pipes your a better man than i am rivelinho!

  • its really fascinating cuz scots have tartans to distinguish one's own clan...its not like a name where u hav to hear it when one sees someone's tartan you'd know where he's from. fantastic music also xD

  • Except that people don't solely wear their clan's tartan (since clans were always a Highland thing anyway). Lots of people wear Royal Stewart tartan who are neither Royal nor surnamed Stewart, for example.

  • Pipers who are neither royalty nor surnamed Stewart can legitimately wear the RS tartan if they belong to a "Royal" regiment ; e.g. The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment), The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards etc.

  • I was more meaning people generally wearing it rather than soldiers. In fact technically all Scottish infantry (except Scots Guardsmen) can wear it because what were the Scottish Regiments are now battalions of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

  • yeah not sure if it works that way...the magic word is authorization...maybe all battalion pipers of SCOTS would wear RS tartan one day, but that would be a conscious act to erase all former regimental identities...can't say for sure how the jocks would take that.

  • alvindurochermtl, the pipers in the scots guards all wear royal stewart tartan. other regiments have their own tartans, and it doesnt matter what your name is, that is the tartan you will wear, by order. now, in ordinary life, your name gives you the right to wear the tartan of your ancesters, in my case, my surname is Alexander, my tartan is McAlistair, which means "son of Alistair" (or Alexander). the kilt is mainly worn at weddings and other special occassions. a bit breezy! but good.

  • I know that, the RS was my regimental tartan, I was an army piper for more than 15 years

  • alvindurochermtl, brilliant, which regiment did you serve with?

  • SCOTLAND THE BRAVE Cmon Yah Feckers......Just awsome...thanks for this made my little jucies flow

  • woooh!

  • Wonderful music!! Gives me chills. Thanks for posting.

  • that was magnificent, thanks for posting this!

  • remo heads ftw

  • I also wish that people would brush up on their written English and grammar so that we can understand them!

  • o dear goodness you lot are nuts would you just stop bickering and pushing each others buttons and listen to the beautiful music!!!

  • The 78th Highlanders have a black base drummer. Some of the best drumming on You Tube. Twice Champion band. And when I was a Black John thgere were more Englishment than Scots in the battalion, Including the two W.O's, the brothers Turtle

  • WO1 Paul Wilman. Very refined conductor...Done a couple of gigs with him with his old band Royal Corps of Signals.

  • Same mate, but we're Scots, we've never let anyone take over our land, and we never will. :)
