It's a shame so many people died, but the Argentinian Navy abandoned them and the ship was being operated unprofessionally. On the positive side it sent their navy back to base and saved them from more carnage. When you invade a country you don't get to decide where the people you attacked can deal with you. @secualo you are some what confused in war inside exclusion zone means to be attacked on sight, outside it depending on the level of threat it is, Argentine navy was the major participant in the invasion of the islands, there are no safety zones after an act of aggression provoking military conflict, after the sinking Argentine navy ran for home their ships no longer a threat, they were allowed to leave if they had been a danger to the British ships none would have reached Argentina.

Your country had about 1000 casualties (not 255 as they claim) which could have been avoided. @melina001a It might have been an old ship but the Brooklyn class cruiser could rain a horrific barrage of shell fire on a target - she was a very serious threat to the fleet and HAD to be removed. What was more surprising though was the utter cowardice of the Argentine navy that left it's young men to drown and feed the sharks.
They left a widr yellow streak across the Atlantic.
Shame on them - they murdered that crew - the Royal Navy was just the weapon that was used.

We, the British, fought a war 8000 miles from home, a logistical nightmare and we still were victorious. We British have the knowledge to fight and win, we fight untill the bitter end and never give up. Yes we lost lives and some Type 42's but we still had the balls to step up and fight. It's a shame so many people died, but the Argentinian Navy abandoned them and the ship was being operated unprofessionally. On the positive side it sent their navy back to base and saved them from more carnage. When you invade a country you don't get to decide where the people you attacked can deal with you. The Argentinians are lucky we didn't decide to go after their mainland targets.

@secualo you are some what confused in war inside exclusion zone means to be attacked on sight, outside it depending on the level of threat it is, Argentine navy was the major participant in the invasion of the islands, there are no safety zones after an act of aggression provoking military conflict, after the sinking Argentine navy ran for home their ships no longer a threat, they were allowed to leave if they had been a danger to the British ships none would have reached Argentina.

@Oder1001 if you ask me I would have never attempted a recovery of the islands using force, but that doesn´t change the fact that the attack on belgrano marked a point of no return and full time war was unavoidable after that. Your country had about 1000 casualties (not 255 as they claim) which could have been avoided. Our military action, while WRONG, was conducted with only 1 casualty from our side, and was largely provoked by UK's eternal arrogance and indifference toward the issue.

@flchange Argentina attacked the Falkland Islands which in realty were defenceless that was a crime the first blow came from Argentina, they had three weeks to announce their withdrawal before the Brits arrived. Argentina spent the time preparing the defences of the islands for war. they knew long before the Belgrano was sunk that war was inevitable because of their refusal to leave. Argentina launched an unprovoked attacked and was roundly condemned by the UN and in self-defence UK retaliated

@Oder1001 The UK seized the islands in 1833 using force and expelling the United Provinces people that were exercising sovty. Argentina contested and complained peacefully on several occasions. The UN recommended a negotiated solution but the UK chose to play the deaf. We got tired of that and made the wrong decision to retake the islands. We were defeated by 3 nations. You guys alone would have had to use nukes on us to force our withdrawal. I am tired of this crap, don´t keep wasting time.

@flchange the only proposal to avert war acceptable to the UK was the Argentines to withdraw.
There is a lesson here for Argentine military commanders when you invade make sure you totally destroy your opponents military capability then you can dictate peace on your terms, if you don`t expect trouble. You seem to relish in the death of soldiers who fought British in particular,one Argentine woman said those islands are not worth the life of those young men British or Argentine she`s right.

@quon4700 the ship was sunk because it was a threat, contrary to Argentinian belief the exclusion zone was not the limits of the battlefield, being outside the exclusion did not make it a safety zone for Argentine military forces after the Belgrano was sunk the remainder of the Armada run for home seeing they no longer pose a threat the Brits let them go if they thought different none of these ships would reach Argentina. you will never teach the Brits to fight at sea they invented game.
