Basic needs are not neglected under capitalism. The piece both of you leave out is that people come in kinship units, and with a functioning (ie. pre-feminist) family set up, kin share. If one is disabled, the rest of the family hunker down and provide.
Of course, once the state assumes these functions, the kinship network retreats to a vestigal role, as it has to day. But that wasn't the case when the US was capitalist.

"Guaranteed quality by the government" only comes using the force and threat of violence. The only road to this apparent utopia is a very violent and oppressed one. I'll never defend the current corporatocracy/oligopoly. But, trying to fix someone else's problems using violence is not a "solution" I want to be part of.

Example: He specifically said that health care and some other parts of society should be communist. The problems are not the systems themselves, but rather the corruption. Corruption that eventually creeps in and once it's tolerated, seals the doom of that system.
Capitalism is like a Mega Billionaire who is dying. He has the Money to buy a Kidney from the poor unemployed sap who need a few morsels of sustance over what an extra kidney? He has Servants that submitt to him like a King. He Gambles in High Stakes World of elites playing a no lose casino where the serfs bare the loss's & the kings can only win.
Now the Billionaire is in the Terminal stage of corrruption & conspicous consumption & it won't die a fast death.
