The two Chinese characters "昇" and "龍" are pronounced "Sheng" and "Long" in Chinese Mandarin. In Japanese language, they are pronounced "Sho" and "Ryu". The "昇(Sheng)" means "rising". The "龍(Long)" means "dragon".

There's lots of things that I don't understand in Street Fighter series...

And, in the Street Fighter 2: The animated Movie, when Bison is talking with his employee, who's saying that Ken Master has the same abillities than Ryu, it's written on the screen that the master of ryu and ken is "Goutetsu"...
Street Fighter Movies aren't very good at portaying story, as for the story in the games most likely since he's not the main protaginist. Gouken is Akuma's brother, but Street Fighter never mention him rejecting or ever struggling with the killing intent, only that wanted to clean it. So its kind of what's happening with Ryu and Ken, hey maybe I'm right or wrong it's just they don't give enough evidence for me, nor do they confirm it.

Akuma is not Ryu's father, he's his adoptive uncle, because Gouken is his adoptive Father. Also, the Alpha movie is wrong, don't take what Shun said into context for defending the arguement because as in the movie, he's not even real. As for Sheng Long, it was just a bad tranlation error, Sheng Long is Chinese for Shoryuken.
P.S. Akuma's power isn't bloodline, he just simply embraced the killing aspect of the art, whereas Gouken attempted to clean it.

When their ultra meter becomes active, you have to remember not to be standing around because he can set it up with his command throw. Jump more when his ultra is up, and try and stay away from his bnb combo strings because a lot of times they break the combo string to command throw

Shun wasn't even real, and was programed to just connect with Ryu
to attempt to get the professer what he wants. As said in the Movie.
So, you can't really use that to say he is his father.

Another big problem being that Shookan is a derivative form of Karate... It's Japanese...

GOUKEN is in SF4. Sheng Long is still a Hoax. But elements of Sheng Long were applied to Gouken in SF4 (one handed Hadouken's).
Sheng Long again was used as an April Fool's joke for a new character in April 2008 by Capcom. Months later, Gouken was announced. No, they are not technically the same.
Sheng Long is still officially not part of SF. He's a legendary hoax character of SF2.
Sheng Long=hoax master of Ryu/Ken.
Gouken=Capcom created master for Ryu and Ken.

And then they later said it was an April Fool's joke (in homage of SF2's hoax) and deconfirmed it. Did you catch that huh?
Months later, Gouken would be confirmed and take some elements from Sheng Long legend. But the fact is "Sheng Long" is not an official character in SF. Just a legendary hoax that even Capcom of Japan acknowledges as legendary.

Yeah it does have a certain "sense" to it, I'll admit. From what I understand, the Sheng long trick is what really inspired the programmers to make Akuma. It is almost the same situation only you don't have to go "10" rounds! That should have been the tip off to people right there! LOL Personally, I would love to see this character in one of the games. Would have been awesome if they would have put him in the SSF2THD remix as a "code" character!

True, it might have been a poor translation. "Long" means dragon in chinese/vietnamese. "Ryu" means dragon in japanese....you follow?

in fact, there was so much confusion about Sheng Long, that the gamers even pulled off an April fool's joke on their street fighter section and said that if you beat Street Fighter II on the hardest difficulty with all perfects, then Sheng Long will appear and defeat M.Bison and challenge you instead.

"You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance!" was Ryu's words after wining in the first SF2, mistranslated by Capcom America, so, many people thought thath Sheng Long was his master.
By "Sheng Long" he meant "Shoryuken". In later versions of SF2 Ryu says "You must defeat my dragon punch tostand a chance".
