One of the saddest songs ever made. Simon talks about how great it would be to be like a rock with no feelings, but his sad tone of voice at that last verse underlines the fact that this is not true, no matter how many times we say it, we're all human, we have feelings and we need of our loved ones to help us in this life. I love this song, but I just can't help but shed a tear at the end of that last verse.

The speaker is not someone we are supposed to agree with. The speaker's attitude is supposed to be sad. "Hiding in my room, safe within my womb" "I touch no one and NO ONE TOUCHES ME". The speaker is a sad person who has been hurt in the past and uses this to justify hiding from all contact. This is not a "hymn" to "autistic people".
