He can't sing, or wright lyrics. Does that wholly constitute him as being a bad musician? No. But the fact that it the entire song basically sounds like background music to an old space themed NES game does.

Do I understand that people have different tastes in music? Of course, but even in this genre there are WAY more talented groups/artists.

@greemur sure the song has a looped beat, but there is progression, organic sounding drums, and much of the electronic sounds are made on hard to learn and program analog modular synths, etc.

I'm sure if you pick a genre for this song, any genre you think it belongs to, you'll find other tracks that you think are better. but listen to the whole self-titled album to get a feel first for any sense of 'genre'... no one wraps disco, punk / post punk, techno / house influences as good as this.

And I have listened the the album. Point to me, one "song" where there is either any sort of sung melody or quality hook. Sure Cake got famous without singing and I'll give him courage points for avoiding autotuning, but really, I can't understand how you could manage to tune out his voice

But clearly i'm a fan and for me it's the focus on the dancefloor that initially appealed to me -- the man makes 7+ min tracks that don't bore. Yes, he sports his influences loudly,LCD's catalog is full of nods to the likes of Talking Heads, Bowie, NYC 70s-90s club/underground, Joy Division, New Order, The Fall, etc. but he's far from a rip-off artist. As for his writing.. All My Friends, I Can Change, and Home are respectable.
