  • lol

  • don't call yourself "old" Maggie. What you are is cute, smart and very, very sexy ;-)

  • awesome work =)) good job keep it up congrats

  • Well, I thought a record deal was so worth it after this video damn......

  • My company All Tied Up Productions has been telling artists this for a long time. You need an effective management team to manage, brand and book you into shows and gigs. The money is in ticket sales and merchandise.

  • Record companys are dead hahaha i for one am fucking glad. bye bye bye fuckheads

  • I rap, sing, play instruments, produce, mix, arrange/compose, and songwrite...but that still doesnt guarantee success. Study the industry and its public examples of protocol. Assume you have to sell records yourself with no help. If you can, study about art/photography, in case you have to market yourself. Your music should be good enough to not only sell, but stand behind it with confidence. Network, be known everywhere and anywhere. Pay your dues and work hard showin people what you got. WORD.

  • Punkedge the money today is in touring and merchandise. Play every gig possible, build a fan base, get on youtube, tweet, make fans love you and you will make money. People buy music they know about, find every possible way for them to learn about. A fan base is built 1 fan at a time. But, remember the cream always floats to the top. Be the cream.

  • she looks like elen degenerous

  • go indi. if you're good then the people will think so too. do some local gigs, go get a small following. then branch out a bit and do the surrounding suberbs. your friends will tell thier friends etc. then do the surrounding towns. then the cities. repeat. then repeat again. sell your cd's at the door at every show. and if you get air play on the radio, go and get some advertising going too. be prepared to work for it. and be prepared to work even harder to keep it.

  • i wanna be a rapper soo bad that i beg to got please make my dream come true i am never gonna quit no mater what everybody who wants to be 1 dont quit

  • Be smart people. Berklee is a scam.

  • I think the golden rule applies to all business matters, music included... he who

has the gold rules! So if you have value, protect it, and watch what you give!

    Good luck everyone! Be smart!

  • This is so confusing. THere are experts like her who say forget royalties, go for advances. Then some other expert says don't sign away royalty rights cause you'll never see a dime. All of the sound very convincing. What are we supposed to do?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • @evanom2 I think that she's not being specific enough. If the artist is not the songwriter or the producer, then an advance is sure money in your hands...and count on cd sales and touring for your money. The people who actually own the song (songwriters and producers) get royalties through publishing. If you are a singer or a rapper, try to learn how to make beats or write, get a copyright, and register your song with ASCAP or BMI so they can collect royalties for you! Learn abt publishing.

  • @KuzinViny yeah good idea, then non performing songwriters have got nowhere to place their music. Great idea!!

  • GEE WMS

  • Good true stuff.

  • ArtistHouseMusic

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!! I like you down to earth and straightforward this woman is. No bullshit involved!!

  • A recording on CD is a record! Anything in writing or type is a record. There's lots of records. Not all, by far, are on CD. Vinyl is not a record unless information is imposed on it. I'll always call music CDs records, because that is what they are.

  • lmao omg she just destroyed my dreams

  • @punkedge1 work hard dog.

  • @punkedge1 she just woke you up - they are dreams because you have to be asleep to believe them

  • @punkedge1 u should never let anyone do that if u love music then its in u wether uget a deal or not

  • Thanx for the great advise.

    God bless

    C.G. Ryche

  • So called artist like Brittney spears are products that don't even write their own music and she has an auto tune made especially just for her, she could fart in the mic and it would sound like Brittney 'LOL'......

  • Indie labels are the way to go if anything, at least you'll be a partner not a slave....Keep in mind that stock holders own record companies and they care about only one thing "Money". The major label needs to meet a quarterly quota forcing the artists to make albums in a short period of time usually resulting in a single and a bunch of crap. Pro Tools allows them to use loops and MIDI and a bunch of other technologies to pump out albums and then the artist sucks live...

  • @ProneNegative Being an indie rocker is like saying you know more than Bach Beethoven and Mozart.

  • People don't see any value in buying the crap the major labels are putting out, they would rather by a video game or something else. Radio, MTV, VH1 no longer dictate what is cool anymore and to add that music is no longer a product its a service, so if you want good music you won't find it on the radio or MTV. Good music is out there and the major labels are getting cut out....Do It Yourself, if you can't do it yourself then you won't get a deal anyway...

  • Sign Dem KooLOut Boyz

  • and even still the music piracy isn't going anywhere any time soon- so the bottom line is deal with it or don't partake in it

  • First of all, I support P2P file sharing ok, Secondly, I'm not part taking in the music industry. I have other plans (BIGGER PLANS).

  • LOL Who would want to get a record deal when the Labels don't pay you dime? Screw what this video says! If I wanted to get rich just for making music, I'd make concerts & create an investment on advertising merchandise (which doesn't involve music). Yup. I'm going to financial heaven!

  • in ordered to throw a lower risk concert you'd have to have alot of money to invest- lower risk meaning like a "Hanna Montana" concert- it would be almost guaranteed to be profitable but the upfront costs are way too much to just dive in with no concert promoting experience

  • I think your missing the point. Many of these artists have to charge those upfront costs cause the "middle man" (aka labels, RIAA, etc.) uses that money to create lawsuits on those who "pirate" music. If artists didn't have to pay royalties to labels, the price of a concert ticket would be much cheaper (alot cheaper).

  • ok so maybe the artist would charge less to perform- but you still need a venue big enough to hold the projected amount of fans- plus entertainment taxes, security, dj, any other side acts, sound man, equipment.etc... it would still cost more than the average person has to invest and it would still be taking a risk- i've actually had a part in some concert promotions for a while and we lost very big- Ma$e, the Lox, Mississipi mass choir..it isnt as simple as it sounds

  • Still not seeing the big picture huh? Most live concerts are benefited through both nonprofit organizations & small businesses. The city (where the concert is held) even pays for the revenue of the fans (but at a small percentage). True, all celebrities need bodyguards as well as a group who will pay thier instrumnets. The drums, bass, etc. go on the tour with the artist, but Labels don't provide the revenue. No doubt it will ALWAYS cost more for an average to invest

    *continues*

  • *continues*

With all that being said, if artists want to afford the neccasary equipment to perform a concert---the only way is through ADVETISEMENT (t-shirts, online store, etc.). Take the advice from one who actually DOES the research on the (corrupted) entertainment industry.

  • I always depends how good you are and also how's your contract....your contract is key to your career.

  • Wrong you need to check the with a Copyright Lawer and yes all record companys should pay

it's the law or ya might see a law court case

young artist jump into thing and never check with a lawer who knows about or works with muisc who am I a old star from the past

AND I STILL KICK IT TODAY. and I get paided

for for everything I do. HAVE A GOOD ONE.

I TRUST RECORD DEALS THAT CAN TALK TO MY LAWER

  • she didn't mean that they don't pay as in they refuse to pay the artists- she meant the artists barely recieve royalties because they are too much in debt- before most artists can collect a royalty check they must first pay back their initial budget which usually includes promo & marketing, studio & production, development...etc

  • fuck copyright laws

  • Can I get her contact information?

  • Maybe you could just Google her name...
