@stanleykneecap 100% agree with you - credible journalism is in the hands of the average man and woman now - the net is the new risky face of true reporters, documentary makers and journalists!
Bless Dennis and what he says now - oh his Rupert. Surely now we must campaign for him and do what he would want. Write to your MP and stop the fucking crap of Murdoch. Please do it.
@TheMimifur Murdoch can be blamed for many things, but not for what is on the BBC, ITV or Channel 4 these days. When you look at what the BBC can make / commission, for example Zen (not making any more eps), Case History (not making any more eps), The Killing etc, its clear they can make quality, but often for Budget reasons fall back into cheaper productions. Thats not Murdochs fault
What the BBC need to do is decide whether its quality or quantity. BBC3 & 4 should go & so should reality progs
@herefordmsv Thank you so much from Barcelona, Spain. I first saw "Pennies from heaven" in a small and already disappeared cinema (now a gym) about twenty years ago, maybe more. I can't explain how it moved me, and how still does every time I watch it. I was immediately interested on the writer behind the story, and a short and brilliant article from Ramon de España in "El Pais" gave me the clue to Dennis Potter. And now I find this and astonishes me with its wisdom and elegance. What a man!
@miguel3105 Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for your comment :) and yes he does have a amazing amount of wisdom and elegance. He is still very much missed and so is his writing
Unable to top Potter, but to say that all trusting Anglos/US/UK/OZ/NZ are now victims of the unelected alien tax-avoiding billionaire Mass Mind-Rapist Rupert Murdoch and his spiv-thug cronies - is a mild understatement !
I would like to echoe 10003949's comment...I too would sincerely like to thank you for this documentary ..I adored Mr Potter..I too had this interview on scratchy VHS long destroyed,DennisPotter was an incred observer of the human psyche.mixing reality, dream like surreality+the deepest depths of human sexuality....I too take very heavy doses of morphine, strange drug ...I too should express this in my painting.nobody compared to Dennis....bless Dennis Potter wherever he may be,thanks Sophie x
He would be sickened unto death to see how utterly and shamelessly corrupted media have become today with corporate propaganda, quasi-Howard Beals, the scripted dissonance, the sheer lack of anything even remotely edifying. But not at all surprised. And all the new gizmos would astonish him, naturally, but he'd be terrified of the intrusiveness they bring with them, as we all should be.
I am a Potter Obsessive ((formerly unhealthy) now under control - saw they are repeating Lipstick on 'Yesterday' and Karaoke/Cold Lazarus is on 40Drama - which is good of them; Perhaps the only 2 potter things I've left to see is Secret Friends/Midnight Movie, if anyone has a copy please get in touch :D
I miss those things on Television that stay with you all your life, that have meaning and provoke feelings long after the VT has ended.
.
For me it was Potter, Pinter and Sapphire & Steel...nothing compares now, nor I doubt, ever will. Potter was able to put into words the things I felt and open my mind to things I wanted to feel.

Thankyou from the bottom of my heart for posting this. When my VHS copy of this screwed up I turned to You Tube.Imagine my delight to find it some years ago, but then my despair to find it had simply been removed.I have been searching for this for many years and you have made me very happy.I have sat through and relived what I felt then as now that this was a remarkable man, with a clarity, purity, generousity and philosophy many would do well to understand and aspire to today.I'm forever grateful.
@10003949 Welcome, of course. I think his clarity and ability to articulate things in such a new, yet familiar way, its really amazing and its nice to share with other Dennis Potter fans :)
Inspirational....
