I have written exactly one review for an album/CD on Amazon - this concert. As great as the horn solos are, the bass solo, and even OP’s solo, the best part of this song is Oscar’s play as accompanist. Everything about is is impeccable. This is one of the greatest concerts ever!
Great stuff just wish the horns weren't mixed so loud. all Great musicians playing like crazy. Niels was my favorite bassist. I don't think you could make a machine that could play like that lol
After the greatest giant finished his solo, everything before it is forgotten. The great Oscar Peterson is himself doing exactly what he said of Art Tatum's solos - wasting what's gone before. Man i love that man
What's so fun? Look at their faces. Count Basie, who performed there minutes before said about this: "Look how serious they are; notice how Clark isn't smiling, Dizzy's not talking and 'Jaws' is not looking at either one. Those cats aren't joking, they know what's coming up".
That is why Granz was wearing that ring: so your friend would remember him 50 years hence.
Promoters managers bookers etc. all want to gain immortality treading at the foot steps of the rich, famous and gifted. Maybe that's why many of us bother to post things here:
We die tomorrow but the You Tube will be archived who knows how long?
Hi: That would be great.Looking forward to enjoying the full concert.Wow! That would be good for an exciting evening.Let me set the seen.A few jazz friends, beer.Volume turned up and silence.
Considero que esta fue la mejor época para el festival de Montreux, cuando Norman Granza llevaba a todos estos monstruos y los ponía a improvisar juntos.
The song was titled by Count Basie, who was watching this from the musicians room with Norman Granz. He told to Granz: "Look how serious they are; notice how Clark isn't smiling, Dizzy's not talking and 'Jaws' is not looking at either one. Those cats aren't joking, they know what's coming up". When the tune finished, he said, in refference to Clark and Dizzy: "Just like Ali and Frazier".
No se puede esperar menos de este selecionado! Planeo subir algo más de este disco, aunque sólo el audio, ya que este es el único tema que tengo en video.
The entire album is great. I promess I'll upload another tune from "Oscar Peterson Jam" (only the audio track). Maybe "Bye Bye Blues" or "Things ain't what they used to be".

@boyTerry Well, it's a jam session, why does he need break? I think Bobby Durham is doing a great job here.

brainstorm; new jazz category for the enthusiasts, [advanced bebop] how flying it is.
Old Lockjaw sure wasn't, his duet album with the 'Little Giant" still ranks at the top in my mind. Glory be to God!
granz how great is he? too marvelous for words. i'm caught inside a mobile and glad of it. halleluiah

Last week I was talking about Granz with a musician who met him about 50 years ago. He remembers his huge ring!!

Dizzy is already past his peak physically here, I'd say the victory goes to Terry. But they're both brilliant.

Also, in the liner notes, Norman Granz says: "I deliberately pitted Dizzy against Clark, nowing that each would push the other to the maximum".
