  • Early Methodist Church: "You have nothing to do but save souls. It is not your business to preach so many times but to save as many souls as you can."

Sounds like the early Methodist Church had their responsibility confused with the role of God's Holy Spirit which might explain the the fruit of the latter Methodist Church.

  • @ChurchOfTheWay Again, 1979 Keith Green when he was still preaching altar-call "me-centered" preaching even though it had an emphasis on holiness (much of it legalistic Wesleyan & worse Finney). He later repented of this. Watch "What's Wrong with the Gospel?"

  • @ChurchOfTheWay He also repented of referring to himself as a "prophet". Sorry, you just can't help but see the striking difference between this practically new convert Keith in 79 compared to the maturity and grace that was becoming evident in his ministry by the time he died in 82.

  • There's a third explanation - there's something wrong with the hearers: they're dead in trespasses and sins and it's only the Spirit of God who can make them alive. It's not fruit that is the most important thing, but faithfulness in life and doctrine. We may plant, another may water, but it's STILL God who gives the increase!

  • And if we're called to be like Him but don't feel adequate enough for the task He'll intercede for us so that we can. He'd rather have us burn out than burn up! He'd rather have us wake up and close our eyes so that we can see Him! Prayer to God, not to Buddha for self-realization or to the cruel god Allah for a vengeful favor, but to our God of mercy for mercy and healing will change souls. No other god intercedes for anyone, because they're less than human, and we are called to be more.

  • Its good to be reminded of just how much Jesus recognizes our need, that He's doing more than anyone can dream of doing for us. He intercedes for everyone on the whole planet who He's called...all at once! Now that's alot of effort! Humanly speaking it would short-curcuit our brains to receive and process that much information sent to it, they would overheat and burn up...in other words die. Now that's dying for us! Of course, Jesus is more than human so He can give that kind of love.

  • I have to agree with he14all. This is really good stuff. And yes, Keith has to have heard from God on this one!

  • This one is great too! It hits the nail on the head, for what the world is going through right now. Keith Green had to hear from God on this one.
