I remember many years ago, when I was living is St Louis Mo. At that time only one radio station had a traffic helicopter.

One day, out of the blue, they went to their routine 'traffic copter" report, and all we got was " Traffic copter down, NO INJURIES repeat NO INJURIES!" and that was it. transmission ended. It was not until the next day that photos of the crash appeared in the Post Dispatch.

You should be watching for planes, but don't worry, plane's glide speed is almost twice as fast as the cars (unless you are speeding)...planes touch down at 60 knots (75-80 mph).

CTAB, what the fuck are you talking about? the pilot did the right thing. Obviously you are not a pilot, so you don't know: but all emergency landings have to be made on a smooth asphalt if possible - if not then over a grass field.

And to prevent the plane aerodynamically stalling and diving to the ground, the pilot must maintain a good airspeed too.

I think that all pilots should just aim for the trees and steer away from roads and traffic. Its the hazzards of flying. If you cant maintain your engine properly, I believe you should bite it by hitting a tree. In the summer though, to prevent forest fires, they should look for a lake to drop into. If its nose first, the plane will break up into small pieces and so mother nature will absorb it quicker and rid the lake of any toxins with little evidence left behind.
