@kakka626 i know what you mean man, I have this same problem with the color coding on transistors :| I solved that problem the only way I could: By finding a temporary, not so color blind assistant lol
right im not sure if this helps but when me and my friend installed his gtx 560 we had this issue. he had a cheap brand psu and was using a molex to pci connector. this wasn't the problem. it was a fault in the ram so we switched the ram and it booted. I build pc's and i have never encountered it before it still confuses me but thats how it happened hoped it helped
would like to know where are those voltmeter cables are being plugged onto???
I have a profesional PSU tester, I do not use the entire computer to test the PSU..I plug the main molex to the tester and the reader is deigital. I can test even all electrical cords of the PSU including the good old floppy cable plug...
Ok so after a opened my pc and closet it, it wouldn`t turn on (no light no noise, nothing) I took out my graphics card and changed it for a new but i soon realized the new was to demanding for my PSU (psu still working at this point) so i changed back to the old one and when i pushed the power button...
Is it my motherboard or my PSU (please tell me its my PSU.....
I'm sure you have this solved by now, but for others following, the cause of your symptoms are low voltage on one or more circuit. Not a dead power supply, but a tired power supply. Your yellow is for sure low. One of your 5v is marginal. Even a tiny bit low, and the four lead plug going to your mother board will cut power to the mother board. Swap out your power supply and change your battery and you'll be all set. Your yellow circuit should be reading at least 12.3.
PSU's and ODD's are the two most common fail items, always worth trying a new PSU The BIOS defaults issue normally caused by flat CMOS 3v Battery, so replace that
I had this exact same problem. New built comp. Would only turn on for a second. It turned out that i just needed to push in and wiggle the cables where they entered the psu and then it would start up fine. I must have pulled on my cables to hard during doing management

Mate have you checkedinside the PSU or gone over the mobo for obvios signs of overheating? Could even be a dry joint as you say when it strats to heat up ( power on) hte jint wherever it maybe probably the PSU innards it pulls apart - no power.
I'd be just whacking in a decent brand PSU if the doesn't cure t the mobos up the swanny. Chepap enough to find out eh?

I have a problem. When I play some video games, after about 10 minutes the pc turns off.Is it a problem with the power supply or something else. Please Reply!
@QuickForceHD It's an AMD 64 Athlon proccesor, it has an Asus graffic card, 512 MB of RAM, i think It's a 200 watt power supply or less, because I did not open my pc the last 3 months. When I touch the pc, It thoes not fell like It's overheating, the last time when I opened my pc, I found dust in It.I've cleaned It but It still shuts off when I play any kind of video games.

SOMEONE help me. i'm getting the aerocool E80-500 Watt psu. with a motherboard which requires a 24pin power connector and an 8pin. but the psu only has a 24 pin and a 4 pin connector. HELP I DON'T WANT TO SPEND HUNDRERDS OF EURO'S ON POWER SUPPLIES
it is either a electric short or the bios values are set wrong. goz it boots , turn off and boots again. my first step would be disconnect all connectors and external hardware. , and check te motherboard spaces.. then reconnect the mobo and connectors. probably the problem was already noticed. if not. install bios rom. then set the bios to default . set the ai overclock function to auto. and all voltage settings to auto . set the dram frequency to its default ,. and try again.
@guikibe2 No, Apple don't like their computer to be called PC's just Mac, and I'm not a "Mactard" , I have an Acer Predator an iMac and my mac is better at everthing except gaming witch i don't really do.
Sounds like bad psu to me. Get the stuff out of the case and try it with another psu. Thinking its shorting somewhere, but through vibrations it sometimes doesnt...
I would replace the power supply with one known to be good. If that solves the problem, then you know your old PS is bad - in spite of what the tester may say.
I have an "old" computer with a mere 4 GIGS of RAM and a 500 GB hard drive and dual core processor that died in April. The operating system became corrupt. When I try to reinstall it it will reach about 2/3 of the way through then every single file will error out. I changed the hard drive with another, it does the same damn thing. My New PC has 8 GB RAM and a 1.2 TB hard drive and I7 processor, but I'd like to get these old non-obsolete PCs running again.
If using a restore disc from the manufacturer, then your disc is corrupted.
Try using OEm disc (these sound like Vista computers) or try Ubuntu 10 for free, burn your own disc from a downloaded ISO file. If still having problems, check to see if SMART is enabled in BIOS, and your hard drive is not having errors. Pray.
If the fan spins for a second.First thing i would check is the Power Supply.Easy enough all you need is a piece of wire.Google it.It the Power Supplies Good then its probably the Motherboard.Look for Leaky Capacitors or Bludged Capacitors. They Usually Go First.

try to check the fan connections, then your mouse and keyboard connections - color coded... if not working, try to re-insert the memory modules, power plug in the motherboard, the disk drive connections... also the jumper plug... you might had grounded the motherboard during your cleaning activity, which affect cmos/bios chip...
my did the same thing i unplugged my 24 pin cord plugged it in not completely just barley and it kick on fine now it may be a connection problem being plugged in to far or something try it out let me know
I know this sounds quite obvious but i had this same problem when i did my first build and funnily enough it was me stupidly forgetting that my mother board had 24 pins and i only had 20 in. you never know?
can u guys help me whit a thing u think??? when i turn on my comp, its starting up fine, but exactley when the picture on the screen shall plop upp, it is doing an aouto restart, then when its on agen, the mous, keyboard and the screen wont work... som1 know what the he** is going on inside my comp??? ;S iwe opened it and cleaned it from dust and sucha things, but it wont work, me and my friends (that are neards) have looked on it but no one knows whats the deal... som one know what to do??? ;S
hi there im harold from philippines, i have the same problem as yours, if you have a external video card installed remove it and put your monitor in the internal or the built in video card or check your memory, remove it and reinsert it or the last resort is to unplug your pc and remove the 3volts battery for at least 30secs so that the default values on the CMOS will be loaded
hay there, the part at the end where you switch the power off and then turn it back on, and the fan turns a tiny bit then turns off, thats exactly what my one does every time. Have you figered out a way to fix that yet lol
hay there, the part at the end where you switch the power off and then turn it back on, and the fan turns a tiny bit then turns off, thats exactly what my one does every time. Have you figered out a way to fix that yet lol
It could be motherboard and it could be the psu, i know ive heard on some mobo's that the power doesn't get across the motherboard and therefore it undervolts causing things like this. It can also cause hardware to misbehave so to speak. I am having a similiar problem now where if i turn on my computer with the 5870 graphics card in it will power up np's but if i reboot i get no display and the graphics card isn't powering up the fan on the graphics card just spins at max rpm.
ok so i have a acer laptop computer and i removed my battery out and plugged in the ac cord and i tried to turn it on again but it still wont turn on . please help.
need help.... when i strt my pc is strt...but after sum times it restarts automatically and keeps on restarting again and again........and after putting power supply on it strts.... plzz help me ..........
hey i need help, i was using my computer normally, when all of sudden the processor just turned off, i tried turning it back on but it wont, also i tried unplugging the power cord and replugging it but still no luck. when i plug in the power there is a led light that turns off and when i press the power button the light turns off. i need help. i have a HP pavilion desktop and just bought it about a year ago. this shouldn't be happening!!
unplug all cards n drives. accept ur main hdd. i had the same problem and it was a bad cd burner. dont ask how that affects it. idk y but it just does
I would say test the 12v 5v & 3.3v PSU voltages with the PSU unplugged. If all is ok then perhaps use a low dummy load like a 21W car brake light bulb to see if you can get an indication of voltage instability. If all chacks out ok I'd say that maybe you have a problem on the motherboard itself with voltage regulation.
make sure non of your usb ports are damaged at all. I had a pin bent on one of my usb ports and after I removed the usb mechanism from my pc it worked fine.
does anyone have a compaq presario 5000. my atx 20 pinouts with 6 cables- 2 white 2 black 1 blue & 1 yellow. i tried to connect using some info from the internet but the only thing that came on was the fan. please advise me.
lol i have same problem and about 2 month later the computer on but.......the is blank.
Then i try my other computer cmos.. and it didnt work......Doi have to buy a brand new cmos battery (it also a memory card to store your bios information).
More than likely the psu is not gewtting a power ok signal or the voltage dropps when powering on and it signals a safty shut off... check your cnonnections dissconect a drive and or just replace the psu with a diff one to see if it works.. if not your mobo is dead
Green is just fine aswell. Your computer turns on when 5V travels from PWR_ON to GND (green to black). This is perfect.
Your computer is fine except for your issues :)
For the BIOS default weirdness: You might have your jumper set to CMOS_CLEAR or something like that (Or your battery is dead. Replacement type: CR2032)
2nd. problem: could be the CMOS jumper too, or your PSU has a bad capacitor somewhere.
hi i had the same problem wen i turned my pc on the xp sine came up then shut down how i fix it the power leeds the big block that conects to motherbord u have a green and a black wire cut them and twist them 2 gether be cause the motherbord tells the power suply 2 switch offthers only 1 green wire u carnt miss it and the black next 2 it hope this helps
man....just change the cooler....your processor is heating up to much and it turns off.Or change the cmos battery.Try starting the comp only with the basics components....And clean it up
I have a similar problem. It can be a bitch to get my computor up and running but when I manage to get the bios to start and everything the computor runs just fine (except for some minor few crashes when the amount of watts suddenly drops crazy and I have to restart the entire thing again.) I've ordered a new powersupply thing, but I'm scared that it might be something else, Could it be the motherboard or the CPU?
i had the same problem when i overclocked my pc try to put the normal GHz and if ur computer doesent start then like take off the main cable witch goes to the PSU and wait about 10-20 sec and then it should go on....
happend with me, i cleaned my CPU cooler one day put it on power it on then it turned of i was like huh? then i realised the CPU cooler wasnt touching then it was fine.
THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM IS EITHER LOAD TRANSISTORS CAN
NOT PRODUCE ENOUGH CURRENT FOR THE START UP
DRAW TO THE CPU, TO THINGS NEED TO BE TESTED POWER
SUPPLY WITH A LOAD ON IT AT THE SAME TIME LOOK AT THE VOLTAGES
OR THE CPU IS DRAGGING TO MUCH CURRENT AT START UP, AND TO
YOUR QUESTION HAVE WE SEEN THAT EXACT SYMPTOM, YES VERY COMMON.

if the mother board does not respond after moving the jumper to reset the cmos, most likely it is going to be a power supply..

Try to get some beep from the motherboard.
You would get similar symptom if your RAM is plugged in incorrectly or bad RAM.
So try the RAM first.
Next try unplugging your video card and see if you the some beep from the MB.

TheIntolerantAtheist 1 year ago
@TheIntolerantAtheist
Pray.

@TheIntolerantAtheist I think si your motherboard running the system to corrupt.

If the fan spins for a second.First thing i would check is the Power Supply.Easy enough all you need is a piece of wire.Google it.It the Power Supplies Good then its probably the Motherboard.Look for Leaky Capacitors or Bludged Capacitors. They Usually Go First.

by trial & error, try to remove the pci devices like the sound card, then turn it on....
phukemonster 1 year ago
try to check the fan connections, then your mouse and keyboard connections - color coded... if not working, try to re-insert the memory modules, power plug in the motherboard, the disk drive connections... also the jumper plug... you might had grounded the motherboard during your cleaning activity, which affect cmos/bios chip...

Well it could be that the computer is not getting the volts it needs to boot with so what I mean is that it's the power supply
mitzey234 1 year ago
Had this problem once and it was remedied by taking out the dead HDD. The hard drive wasn't letting it turn on for more than a second.

hi there im harold from philippines, i have the same problem as yours, if you have a external video card installed remove it and put your monitor in the internal or the built in video card or check your memory, remove it and reinsert it or the last resort is to unplug your pc and remove the 3volts battery for at least 30secs so that the default values on the CMOS will be loaded

not enough power you need a better psu
the731272 1 year ago
It could be motherboard and it could be the psu, i know ive heard on some mobo's that the power doesn't get across the motherboard and therefore it undervolts causing things like this. It can also cause hardware to misbehave so to speak. I am having a similiar problem now where if i turn on my computer with the 5870 graphics card in it will power up np's but if i reboot i get no display and the graphics card isn't powering up the fan on the graphics card just spins at max rpm.

hmm...
remove all PCI cards and disconnect any cd or dvd drive you use...
reset your bios....>set jumper or remove the small battery on the board and wait 5 min
start the pc only with your hard drive
...check your power switch...or connect the two wire from the power switch
when your pc don't work..your power supply is ok but your mainboard crashes
...sorry bad english i came from germay

SploogeSniper 1 year ago
I would say test the 12v 5v & 3.3v PSU voltages with the PSU unplugged. If all is ok then perhaps use a low dummy load like a 21W car brake light bulb to see if you can get an indication of voltage instability. If all chacks out ok I'd say that maybe you have a problem on the motherboard itself with voltage regulation.

its the power supply i had the same problem cus i forgot to set in the 8 pin/ 4 pin connector my comp was on in 1 sec and then turned off in 5 sec

yep fix your cpu fan that wil fix all problem,s
pCneter 1 year ago
I would try this :
1. Get a new CMOS battery
2. Try a new PSU (since this is easier to try than a new motherboard)
3. If that doesn't do the job, your motherboard is dead.
IllegalMavamaarten 1 year ago
More than likely the psu is not gewtting a power ok signal or the voltage dropps when powering on and it signals a safty shut off... check your cnonnections dissconect a drive and or just replace the psu with a diff one to see if it works.. if not your mobo is dead

EDIT ACTUALLY LET ME REWORK THAT COMMENT:
Orange is just right. Orange connector = 3.3V
