  • you know i do this move alot when i was a begginer in bjj but now i usually i dont get mounted, it is a good technique but I never see this being used in mma they always give em there back or they try to put there feet in front of there opponant. which looks really shitty.

  • all those secret kung fu moves never existed out side of conventional folk tales pulp fiction novels(popular around the 1600-1800). real chinese martial arts was relativly simple. striking was developed by local populace and the military historically had long history with wrestling like shanxxi wrestling

  • GOOD BUT THERE IS FASTER WAY OUT AND IT GIVE YOU BETTER CONTROL

  • Simple and effective. The key is the preliminary bridge.

  • Eye gouges, ball strikes, pressure strikes, etc all work and all but are extremely over rated at times, great video! Remember, if the person is wearing jeans or a hoodie use his jeans as a gi :P make him pay! lol

  • Great instruction. Easy to understand. Thank you.

  • I WOULD LOVE TO TRAIN WITH STEPHEN BECAUSE HE IS SO TECHNICAL!

  • I would beg my way out.

  • 3 ppl think think they can eye gouge their way out.

  • This is really good stuff. You should make a few more!

  • @StephanKesting What about grabbing his back and holding my head close to him before I do the bridge the first time so he won't fall on one hand and punch me in the face with the other one? Will that work out better?

  • @TheApokaliptic its hard to bridge without your head on the ground, you lose a lot of leverage. i think its best to just grab the arm and half ass block the punch and bridge. in a street fight your going to get hit

  • I would give you 4 points for that

  • what happens if you get mounted by a bjj mugger?

  • Very interesting, although I was wondering: after escaping the mount, he's still in an inferior position cause he ends up in his opponent guard and is thus vulnerable to lots of different chokes and arm/shoulder-locks... how to avoid that?

  • @tux937534 It's not a true guard unless the guy is somehow using his feet/legs/grips to control your hips (e.g. ankles crossed behind, or feet on hips plus sleeve grips). One quick way to prevent the guy from achieving a proper guard on you is to bring one knee up in front, so that your shin is vertical across his groin, sometimes called combat base. From there, passes are easy.

  • So basic and so good. Nice vid.

    -Vivada Close Combat-

  • the police is coming.......hehehe

  • excellent mount escape...thank u

  • "'What about my 5 Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique?' That's a load of BS."

I don't believe that for a second. Kill Bill would never lie to me.

  • What if a guy in a gi mounts me in the street? I dont think it will work cuz he can defend it ahahah

  • @theawakener7 If it is okay with you, I will continue this converstation on your 3 Ranges video page. Just feel that it belongs there

  • @theawakener7 That should read not sure where the Gracies comment comes from....I know where they come from....

  • @theawakener7 There is nothing opposing about the statements. The guy on top has a better position. The guy on bottom can eye gouge. The guy on top can ey gouge with all his weight plus gravity. That is what is being said. The person on the bottom can be a world class boxer. But he can not generate proper punches from that position. The person on top can no little about fighting and still deliver strong blows because of simple mechanics.

  • @theawakener7 Bruce Lee's Tao of Jeet Kune Do is infused with the idea of four ranges. People that trained under him such as Larry Hartsell and Dan Inosanto talk of four ranges of combat. So I don't think that it is his way or the highway. Not sure where the Gracies come from. I am not having a discussion with them. Nor do I believe that grappling is the end all be all range. It is merely one of the ranges.

  • @theawakener7 Yes there are combination of things that you can do. This video shows a very simple escape. Why complicated it? As I tell people, if I am sitting on top of you I can figure out that I can punch you in the face with little to no fighting experience. Eye gouges and groin strikes MIGHT work.

Watched the video. Disagree. If I feel like banging my head against the wall I will comment there. You seem to be a my may or the highway person. Range Nomenclature doesn't matter.

  • @theawakener7 I understand this....which is why I am not sure why you made your original comment about sport BJJ. This isn't sport BJJ. It is BJJ in street situation and is showing how to escape if you find yourself mounted by an attacker.

  • @theawakener7 so simply eye gouging or striking the groin will not get you out of the situation. If you don't believe me watch the "Gracies in Action" videos. That is where learning a better way to escape comes into play.

As a JKD guy I presume that you understand the five basic ranges of combat (Kicking, punching, trapping, grappling and weapons). This video is showing how to defend yourself in a situation you could find yourself in a grappling range.

  • @theawakener7 escalate from what? We don't know. All we know is he is mounted....not how he got there. What is is saying at 1:29 is that anything you can do I can do better, harder and with less effort. The point is that if you can eye gouge so can I with more destructive force. That is counter productive. BTW just because you think to eye gouge doesn't mean that the other person will....but you can be darn sure that he thinks of it after you attempt it. continued

  • @theawakener7 This will be multiple replies. Kickboxing is a sport. That does not mean that aspects can not be used in self defense. However BJJ has two separate aspects, self defense and sport. What is being shown here is the self defense aspect...and techniques do vary with the self defense aspect. People seemingly fail to realize that there is more than technique to martial arts there is a philosophy behind that art that is important to understand.

    Continued....

  • @theawakener7 In case you have not noticed this clip is not about sport BJJ. But using BJJ in street fight type situations. Not sure if you are aware that there is a sport aspect of BJJ and a self defense aspect of BJJ.

  • LOL, five point palm exploding heart technique!!!

  • @theawakener7 I'm talking about the mount ESCAPE.................... bitch?

  • @theawakener7 the mount scape is sport BJJ... BITCH!!!

  • What do you do if when they are mounted on top of you, they are on top of your arms too? like mounted closer to your chest and with there knees pinning your arms down?

  • I really like that stephan understands the concept of "escalating the fight", and why eye gouging is not a good idea.

  • Good stuff sir! Thanks for posting.

  • Stephan what do you do if the attacker simply crosses his free arm over your head to post and stop your roll? Admittedly that assumes the attacker has a little experience keeping his balance in mount even when the person on the bottom tries to tie up one arm, but I think a lot of attackers are at least that savvy.

  • Biggest problem in the street is it is usually you vs. more than one guy. You think it is one on one until you start winning and some friend jumps in, and your pussy friends look like statues. It is tough to fight 4 fists on your back. Luckily most people couldn't KO their grandma, and you can take that all day.

  • Yes I agree.. The MOST important escape.. A very Close 2nd is the RNC escape ! I have nightmares thinking about it!

  • @ josh1212121 ... LOL yeah the technique was great .. but the shocked passer by in the last video was ....priceless! Stephan great, great video. I have been doing this escape for years, but I realized that I have been missing a detail in the move in that I have been bridging up, instead of up and over the shoulder. It really makes me realize how important it is to keep refining your technique and studying the fundamentals.

  • Great lesson. I'm a BJJ purple belt, and this is the single most important technique I think people should learn from BJJ for self defense. You can easily do without almost any other BJJ technique, but this mount escape is an absolute must.

On the other hand, I also love countering the mount position with a shrimp escape into heelhook. But maybe not such a good street fighting technique ...

  • Good stuff .

  • "Now im really pissed off" LOL....

  • Five palm exploding heart strikes every day all day! =P

  • Thanks, I started to teach ever woman I know and myself these techniques. Thanks for sharing. I also teach a sport that people say is very similar to Jiujitsu's. Take a look here youtube.com/acrobaticyoga. Once again thanks StephanKesting.

  • It's funny you posted that today, its our technique of the week that we've instructed in today's lesson

  • A genius is someone who can take complicated things and explain them simply. You do a great job of that. Keep it up, Stephan!

  • Just another (great) example of how the fundamentals never change. As long as humans have two arms and legs (or we face an alien invasion).

  • @TSMontana Againts aliens armbars will be far easier-

  • And did the police put you in jail for streetfighting? Someone dialed 911

  • Somehow it adds a lot of credibility to the whole "does-it-work-on-the-street?" debate, that you are actually doing this on concrete!

    Great stuff - as always!

  • I have too say though Stephan that wouldn't the slower arm capture be a better one (in self defense) for the simple reason that it allows your free arm to defend a series of punches from his free arm just in case your not fast enough with the initial roll?

  • good basic lesson that anyone can use.

  • Love the sirens in the background to give the full STREET effect:) Keep up the great vids.

  • trap and roll from mount, the first, and most valuable escape/transition i ever learnt

keep up the excellent work man, big fan!

  • Very nice vid. I can manage this on most my partners. But there´s this friend who is huge . He is 25 kg heavier than me and very strong. I cant manage to move him when he gets the mount and have to try another aproach. Yesterday he got me into that and I ended up escaping from the side, controling his arm and hiting him in the ribs. But I am not realy able to get him out of the mount. Before I tried wraping from up the arm. I am goin to tray this aproach shown in the vid. Thanks

  • @ccamaramartin

If your doing it correct size isnt what the issue as far as this mount escape. There are other mounts that this escape wont work. Most likely if your having problems with a larger person its because your not generating enough power in your bridge and roll.

  • @cuzz63 Yeah I know, but it´s not as easy to do...have to practice a lot, this guy is realy huge and strong. He won Mr Spain contest, ja ja , realy and is all muscle. But I am lucky to practice in such adverse condition. Have to refine that technique. Thanks mate¡ :) appreciate the help¡

  • i wonder what that lady was thinking when she walked by at the end. lol.

  • My 5 point heart exploding technique will always work.

  • if you groin strike a fella it won't kill him, not to mention he'll gaurd one arm over his groin thereafter and what do you know on bottom you're wide open and he'll whail your sack till you're puking so great advice there

  • psh, that would never happen to me because I can block a baseball bat with my forearm and also somehow throw a knife with my toes. (as long as they give me a few chances/tries)

Big fan Stephan, keep up the great stuff. I'm guessing you'll be one of the few JJ instructors not to veto the "elbow to the groin" guard pass :-D

  • @ShinkaTV lol, let's not forget the evil eye look.

  • I think it is the firs time that I see bjj on concrete, veeeery reallysctic

  • ahhh that stupid smart car >=O

  • i must say i prefer your bbj training vids slightly more than the self defense

  • U guys no u have a gym right behind u right?

  • @loves2sploosh i think they are trying to get more of a "street fight" scenerio

  • no asian guy this time?

  • @josh1212121 very good one

  • How come you guys do everything on the street?

  • @4nubiS cause thats where self defense happens?

you dont have mats and wear a gi when youre in a street fight..

    i think thats pretty obvious...

  • @moos14

Oh, i didn't know it was meant for street fights

  • @4nubiS haha i'm sorry if this sounds snide but what else could it be when they're showing it to you fully clothed on the pavement outside? :)

  • @strychninecologne

Well i thought they couldn't afford doing it in a Dojo or something, or at home.....so why not at porch or backyard :P

  • @4nubiS well fair enough if you're not familiar with his name then it's hard to know

  • @strychninecologne

So do i get a thumbs up for the weird comment :o ?

  • @4nubiS not when you ask for it!

  • @4nubiS

    well its "bjj self defense"

and self defense actually only happens on the street.. or well it mostly does..

..but i could be wrong, maybe their gym just gets painted or sth. :D

  • Great one.=)

  • what about punching him in the balls when he is in the mount position?

  • @thoTRISTOS If it doesn't work, you're fucked.

  • @thoTRISTOS did you even watch the video? he answers that very question.

  • @Jonobos what video?

  • @thoTRISTOS The one you are commenting on.

  • @Jonobos how do you know what video i am commenting on?ARE YOU SPYING ON ME?!

  • @thoTRISTOS Uh, your comments are public dude. Everyone that watches this video can see them and reply to them. Am I being trolled, or do you really not know this?

  • @thoTRISTOS elbows work okay, but they're still on top of you punching your face - Stephan's right about the urgency of changing the position. Not to say that an elbow to the nuts might not help off-balance them.

  • @ShinkaTV i was think more of a fist i dont see how i could hit him with an elbow

  • @thoTRISTOS Doesn't work. When you're under the mount, you can't generate enough force for a punch- no matter where it is.

  • Stephan do you carry?

  • @MrSamyboi911 I'm wondering that too, but I think what you see on his belt is just the battery pack/transmitter for the mic he has on.
