Art .. Is always in the ear of the ... If I choose it to be about the digestive tract of early Hippos .. then it is... Did you know Van Gogh's Sunflowers was really aboiut mice? Let's discuss.. Oh no .. let's not..
I think Kate would absolutely LOVE this! It's perfect. She said in an interview that it's about the terrible things we do to each other and more but that's all I recall at the moment...I put this moment here...
Brilliant video, and of course a brilliant fim, after A Clockwork Orange, I think it's his best, and Kate is the greatest artist of all time, so you couldn't go wrong with a video like this.
@psdevin i think its a little more than that. shes kind of like a magpie- she sees things and then turns them into amazing music. she always links the movie to the song so think she was directly inspiried...then of course when into her own wonderful way!
INTERVIEWER:There is a video on the Video File [sic] that shows "The Body" to wonderful effect. As you can imagine, I buried the next question--Do you think women get off on you?--in fine flippant style. [This is very peculiar.] But I liked her candidness in other areas. Do you like books? KATE BUSH:"Yes. But I'm a really slow reader. Every time I read a good book, it's in my head for weeks...Like The Shining. That went straight into a song [Get Out of My House]- The Dreaming". -Gaffaweb
Love the book, film and song. Even Stephen King's miniseries of the Shining was good for a larf.
I heard that the song was about rape, about a stranger invading a deep, private part of you, and 'get out of my house!' is a raw reaction to that. This is why I find her screaming it very disturbing. Anyway, a thought provoking song from Kate which could be interpreted many ways, as always... Thats why I love her music.
No I'm not a "fucking idiot". Kate's songs can be interpreted in many different ways as I SAID in my comment. I read this somewhere and thought it was an interesting, disturbing idea, that's all. My interpretation is as valid as yours, whoever you are. Kate can be the person who tells me I'm a "fucking idiot" for misinterpreting HER song, no one else.
Dedicated recently to that bitch with the hammer...From me. (Kate is The Best)...Also my Favorite King book & Jack flick. Did You know Danny is now in a band?
The initial release (I think) of this film was significantly shortened. Later releases restored some fascinating bits, like the skeletons (and also I think the scene with the guy in the dog suit...one of the creepiest parts of all in the book.) I still think the hedge animals coming to life is scarier than the labyrinth; it's the one part of the film that gets trumped by the book imho. (Well, that and that Jack's character was a lot more complex and interesting in the book lol.)
est album of Kate Bush as far as I'm concerned lyrically and musically. Experimental, artistic, no boundaries...way ahead of its time. Meant to be listened to loud to find all the layers. Amazing work. Even to this day, it is the one album that I listen to. Hounds of love might have achieved commercial success and it is a good album but The Dreaming is a league of its own and timeless.
I love this film, to be fair though, Wendy is pathetic.

Not a very compelling editing job... and I highly doubt, given the songs lyrics, it's remotely inspired by The Shining, but if you say so...
Still, great tune... thanks for posting.

How does she sing
1:00
No strangers feet will enter meeeeee!
I wash the panes
I clean the stains
Like that?
And as for the ending - the bravest and most extraordinary vocal performance I've ever heard.
She is letting all her anger, passion, frustration and violence out in her voice and it is unnerving and quite chilling. I adore this song!
If the US army use Rock to scare their enemies, could the Peace Corps use this - it would terrify anyone into surrender!

Nice! You know what would be interesting? To have this song played over the Simpsons Tree House of Horror version of the Shining.

The Song "Get out of my House" is actually written about the "Shining"
imthehunter1 2 years ago
She was inspired by the film and stalkers like Fred Vermorel. The song is actually about a person's mind and somebody trying to get into it.

How come ? Kate Bush is screaming here very sexually in a art. Not in a violent way. This movie would have been much better without Jack Nicholson.
FinnMove 3 years ago
I agree. Kate Bush is art.
The shining is not suitable for this.
