Okay, I'm a musical fan, not a christian, so I miss some of the symbology I think , and the touches from the original story. At 4:57 what is Jesus holding out to Judas ?
@Spirosaur OK I'm not positive but I think the idea is that all the apostles showed up to the supper wearing those scarves which they then used to sit on. When Judas ran away he left his behind. So Jesus is holding it out to him to give him another chance, or to drive home what he's doing.
For me the 2000 version is the best one, but that is probably because that was the first one I watched. I don't really see the reason to argue about which is better, they are both great renditions. They both contain some of the best musical art ever made.
This is the best rendition of the musical. I don't really care for the 2000 version. Jesus had a creepy smile that seemed wrong. Ted portrays a sadness to the role that is spot on.
@Kasino80 I see what you mean - the 2000 version was too camp for my tastes. This version had more emotion to it - especially with Carl Anderson, I actually feel sorry for Judas at parts of it.
In all honesty, the tension in the 2000 version is much higher and in my personal view more appropriate. Then again I prefer the more direct and non-metaphorical presentation on this version... Can't wait to see what they do in 2014.
@20D14C I totally agree...I am 53 years old and listened to the original 1971 soundtrack when i was 13 or 14..loved Murray Head's rendition...then watched the film version only in 1975..by then i was 17..was totally blown away by Carl Anderson..now in 2011 with the magic of youtube i have been watching several other versions..and have concluded none has the depth of emotion, the agony, fear and frustration portrayed by anderson.
@jacob13892 Yeah....imagine a singer with Carl Anderson's range and vocal strengh and Jerome Pradon's acting ability and vocal expression. It would make for one hell of a fantastic film.
@witness124 No I believe that this was intentional. Jesus is supposed to be stoic and mysterious. They cant quite tell what he's thinking, but to us he's pretty clearly not 100% sure about what he's doing as he says in Gethsemane. He's worried that Judas is right in what he says and has become defensive. Here he's attempting to conceal his vulnerability from Judas and kinda failing. It's just funny/awesome/ridiculous how he does it while screaming a high ass note.
@srs7593 I suppose when you look at it like that, it makes sense, but, still, with such an emotive and powerful score, I don't really get why the director would make that choice.
@jhtcn I disagree. I think that the 2000 version flowed better musically and I prefer Glenn Carter's voice to Ted Neeley's. I also think the acting in the 2000 version is much much better, I don't really believe this version.
you really can't get it in stores? I watched this movie with my sis when I was 10...she bought the OST and
I loved it (still do)..I finally gave my life to Jesus last december.....Praise the lord!!!! Everyone should remember the expiatory sacrifice as he died on the cross for all sinners !!!
Is this version slowed down per chance? It seems to be a lower pitch than the other versions on youtube and my version of the film and the drums are at a slower tempo.
JUDAS IS A SAINT . JUDAS WAS CHOSEN , Just Like Lord Jesus Christ Was !!! Judas Is A Victim !!! , JUDAS WAS A MARTYR !!! I LOVE BELOVED SAINT JUDAS !!! I BELIEVE , KNOW , FEEL JESUS LOVES JUDAS , JUDAS LOVES JESUS , FOREVERMORE !!!
@412southwolfestreet =. Jesus is God. God wasnt chosen, He always always has been existant. Judas' part in the story is a very important one. he led Jesus on the way to hes death, yes. very important, strong charcter. but no saint. speaking of saints, they dont have the same powers as Christ. they dont have powers at all. Jesus does, because He is God. saints are not God, so they have no power. now, before you go posting stupid comments like this. try learning about what your saying. btw im15.

They had tanks in it, soldiers with guns and a brutha as Judas so they might as well have had Chinese takeout for the Last Supper.
