piccolo's blood is red because his character was introduced before the namekians were introduced in the story. piccolo jr.'s blood was originally red as well, however it changed purple when the namekians were introduced. in dragon ball kai (or z kai in the u.s) his blood is edited purple to keep consistency in the plot line

Also the manga of dragonball (where the series is based on) was in black and white so they didn't know the blood was supposed to be purple. This was corrected when namekian blood was first shown on a colored manga page during the namek saga.(Once in 1,5 year or so a chapter would be fully colored instead of black and white)

King Piccolo fought all over the universe? How is that even possible? Was that in the manga? He could he anyway? I thought he, as the "Nameless Namek" was from Namek and was sent directly to Earth, where The Nameless Namek split into two, one Kami, the other King Piccolo. Also, if he did fight all over the universe, he'd have his ass kicked easily. Frieza, the Saiyans, the Kai's ect can defeat him. A Saibaman is more than capable enough to defeat him.

These are just guesses so i could be wrong

He might have heard the same rumors and myths about it that Vegeta had (Nappa seemed unaware of it until after Vegeta had brought it up) and chose to ignore them due to lack of evidence. Following Vegeta's discovery of a Namek on Earth, thus revealing the truth behind the myth, Freeza opted to collect the Namekian Dragonballs for himself.
