  • I never heard of this guy . Why not ? He rocks.

  • Bear in mind Lindley is responsible for all those tasty lap steel parts in those Jackson Browne and Warren Zevon songs we all know.

  • Song called "The State Of Arkansas" He used to play it on banjo. I bet it was good. Here is a fragment of a fantastic oud solo sadly curtailed. I remember Kaleidoscope.

  • what's the songs name? sounds like a dylan song, doesn't it? and what kind of lsd-trips did they swallow in the sixties. purple haze???? seems like that stuff still works in the brain...

  • camera = in the audience? why complain?

  • ・・・いいっ!!w

  • Anyone who respects Lindley knows this real musician - although he's not exactly unnoticed. Many famous players cite Lindley as one of their main influences of all time ... plus you can meet Lindley after most of his shows as he's the coolest, most approachable guy you can imagine ..

  • psalms of David

  • I've always loved this guy and you're right, i b. Why can't everyone just SHUT UP? The sound was still exceptionally good.

  • Killer as always.

  • nice sideburns.

  • Eric Clapton is a great guitar player as is David Lindley. There is room for them all. I only wish Jimi Hendrix/Stevie Ray Vaughan and Lowell George among others were still with us.

  • David Lindley could get a tune out of a tennis racket.

  • @SmileyGarrish

Dave could get a tune out of a fishing line and a bamboo pole...

  • @SirWinstoneChurchill a freshly skinned cat and two hockey sticks?

  • @SmileyGarrish

Dental floss and a tooth brush.

  • @SirWinstoneChurchill one fresh strand of spider's web and the brief erections of two Norway Rats......

  • @SmileyGarrish

Broken plastic mini-blinds hanging between two rotting fence posts...

  • @SirWinstoneChurchill two fingers and an attached nose hair?

  • brilliant as usual!Mr. Dave is just gorgeous and more than unique

  • WOOOOO dont ya mean fuck yeah!

  • The State of Arkansas

  • Name of the song please ?

  • lovely! thanks

  • The first part of this video should be called..................Yo dude move your BIG HEAD!

  • I'm just speaking from experience, but I do believe this instrument is a buzuk or "bouzouki" as people say. I think this interval spacing is actually typical for this instrument. There is a similar axe called the 'octave mandolin' which I believe to have equally tempered interval spacing. I think the buzuk is a Middle Eastern/ Mediterranean instrument while the octave mandolin is more Northwestern... possibly Irish. If anyone wants to check my facts on this one I would welcome it... lol

  • @AlbusKong i believe ya man , thought it was a mandolin myself ...Thanks

  • Wonder which instrument this is.

    Look at the fretting.

    Cannot place it.

  • @MultiBert07 I think he's playing a bouzouki ( in the lute family of instruments, mostly used in Greek music having wither 3 or 4 pairs of strings) this instrument has 4 pairs of strings, is tear-shaped and has a flat front body unlike something like a guitarron

  • @QueenBeatlesWings I don't think so. In the pics of bouzoukis I found on the internet, all bouzoukis have a guitar-like fretting. This instrument played here has not. It looks like a bouzouki though.

  • @QueenBeatlesWings I have been looking around some more. Regarding to the fretting, it is most likely a build of the "tanbur" family.

  • @MultiBert07 interesting, it very well could be a tanbur. He has so many instruments and this 1 isn't on his website where he labels photos of a few of the things he plays. it's hard to say for sure

  • Just saw him on 1/20/11 at the El Rey in Chico, CA and he was mind boggling! The third time I'd seem him and he seems to get better every time. he has done a lot of session work for other musicians from Dolly Parton to Bob Dylan, etc. A friend of mine introduced me to him about twenty years ago. Wish I had known about him sooner. He is so incredibly unique with a capital "U"!!!

  • Very enjoyable viewing. Thanks!

  • nothing worse than some idiot mouthing during a concert--this is why i hate festivals--assholes are in droves--like someone wants to hear them

  • I saw him last night is Agoura Hills. Excellent, as always and in a very good mood and very talkative. A real treat.

  • who is this old woman?

  • @Michateller thats your mom don't you reconize her

  • i play better on my penis

  • @Michateller The only thing that you got going for you is running off at the mouth! Prove that you can even play one chord on the guitar you imp!

  • this sucks

  • He's not playing a guitar. He's playing a flat-back bouzouki.

  • Oh, my goodness. I first encountered this guy two days ago, while I was looking for Ry Cooder clips. This is amazing. I thought Cooder and Clapton were great, but this Lindley guy is in the same class as Andres Segovia! I think the reason he never got more notice is because he has a very individualistic choice of music he wants to play. Cooder and Clapton are more mainstream blues players, but Lindley seems to go for older stuff, as well as blues

  • If this is not the coolest f***king thing I've ever heard, it's definitely in the top 5.

    Thanks, luckyiggy for posting!

  • ironbuttermilk!!! you are so f****** right. i don't understand that either

  • What is the name of the song he starts singing around 2.50?

  • just makes you want to slap the hell out of the loud bastards

  • And again that Mr. Dave have made he's own genius build. He is - over the jears - great. Thanks for posting

  • The only thing I f**king HATE about these live vids is the brainless f**ks talking during the brilliant playing. May their tongues burn in their mouths 'til their teeth smoke.

  • @ironbuttermilk Spoken like Hunter S Thompson. Imagine the poor folks sitting next to em.

  • @ironbuttermilk

    couldnt say it better myself,

  • @ironbuttermilk the one great thing that many Musicians say about playing live in the UK is,

the audience ''shut the fuck up, and listen to the music''.

I saw Neil Young at MSG NY back in '86 I was lucky enough to tie my holiday in with that gig,

I recorded the gig on my little Walkman,

but often when playing back the tape all you hear is fuckwits rabbiting on and on

    never had that happen before

thank fuck we don't get that much shit + woopin' n hollarin' during the set at gigs in the Uk.

  • If you get the chance, be sure to see him in concert! His talent and stories are not to be missed.

  • Es magnifico en escena david

  • amazing. beautiful. i'd love to hear the whole song especially since the video and audio quality are so good! thanks for posting.

  • There is no guitar god only his Angels and one of them is right about this. Seen David in 85 and the power went out, he went into overdrive for 15 minutes on his acoustic like he had to make up for us not hearing his band. Praise they.

  • Genio!

  • I don't know if it's ironic or fitting that people clamor on and on about Page and Clapton and yet the actual guitar god here goes by vastly unnoticed. I guess people thought that the guitar god would just stick to the ordinary looking guitars :)

  • django is the ultimate guitar god imho

  • @MadJohnEscapes yeah you're right

  • @MadJohnEscapes Clapton is over rated. I hate to say it but since he got sober his music has grown boring. Angst & suffering are the roots of great art. He has lost it. Lindley is a musician's musician & a Troubadour. He travels the globe in poleyester & patent leather shoes.

  • @MadJohnEscapes All True Gods are HIdden From Sight - David only 'becomes visible and auditory' to true believers, in David Lindley........

  • @MadJohnEscapes That's the case with many great so-called un-noticed musicians....Lindley's got an audience, that's more than can be said of many who plough a lonely furrow; it's all ok....don't fret.

  • @MadJohnEscapes Page and Clapton can go to school on Lindley ! FTW !

  • great playing. I love that bouzouki

  • @BrighamHB Not a bouzouki, I think; an oud.

  • The genius, that is Mr Dave!

  • Ah Mr. Dave.... He played at a festival I produced in Durango CO in 2004 along with a lot of other great artists. He is the master of anything with a string on it... He also knows how to keep marauding hotel maids away from his hotel room while on tour by tapeing a lobster claw to the hotel room door with a sign that says "DON"T F*#@ with the CLAW!

This is a great video. Gonna add it as a favorite. Thanks

  • wunderbar

wie heisst noch der zwerg von den 7 der so aussieht wie david lindley jetzt

ach klasse ich bin wie immer hingerissen

  • wish that big ass head would get out of the way. the camera guy shoulda said move your big ass head

  • awesome..from the very best talent alive in the music industry.

  • this is great footage...
