  • I wanna play this piece so badly

  • @artymowycz

Good thing you don't need humor to state facts.

  • I love this piece so much... It makes me think of the sea and someone on the shore alone. Rain and the scent of salt. Dark clouds and total silence.

  • This is and Etude (practice piece),May I recomend Olivier Messiaen,or Johann Sebastian Bach for religious compositions?

  • @konzolmester what if im not religious?

  • @artymowycz You dont have to be religious to admire a composition based on religious theme.

  • @konzolmester But you need to be funny to tell a good joke

  • @JESUS1John

Nothing against Jesus, brother, but here we prefer to concentrate on two other important messiahs: Rachmaninoff and Ashkenazy.

  • @Spiritakis Someone's going to burn in Hell! ;D

  • @SUPPLEANDFIRM Quit trolling.

  • @Emanresu56 Um no.

  • @SUPPLEANDFIRM Quit trolling.

  • @SUPPLEANDFIRM Didn't you get a warning the other day for posting paedophilia on here?

  • @JESUS1John

If you do know more about Rachmnaninoff and Ashkenazy than I do - quite possible and even likely, as I know very little - it would be wonderful if you share of your knowledge here.

As for Jesus, I should like to know more about him, certainly, for he must have been an extraordinary man, though I really don't believe he was God. At any rate, this is the wrong place to discuss Jesus. We can continue on your channel.

All the best to you too.

  • @JESUS1John

    Lol.

  • @JESUS1John my friend, this is not the place to discuss about religion, some people might feel disturbed or offended by it, besides, your comment could easily be classified as spam should anybody flag it, it's in your right to believe in anything you want but save the preeching to other ocasions and instead of "loving jesus" talking about "him" etc, just try to be good to everybody and search for the truth in a philosophical manner, then you'll really be a "good person" which matters the most ;)

  • @Albertoferro68 I thought I heard a hint of the Dies Irae in the left hand, too

  • Amazing

  • This work is an obsession for me these days. It sings in me.

  • my favorite song. so sad, and at the same time i recognized here kind of completion

  • Ashkenazy's playing and interpretation are absolutely superb.

  • Did you know that he did not only have a absolute ear, he had an absolute memory. Moreover, his technique was so perfect that he could play any piece he had heard at any moment without practicing them, not for a recital of course.

  • I prefer Ashkenazy to Horowitz.

  • Just genius!! No other composer's music affects me like Rachmaninoff's. Brilliant!

  • @junglejim66 yes he is! i just boght a cd of him playing rachmaninov's first 4 piano concertos and its amazing! so clear sound

  • Rachmaninov was a certifiable genius on the basis of his composition alone, much less his playing ability or conducting ability...

    Or natural coordination.

  • This has one of the most tragic endings..so sad.

  • I am surprised to hear a "Dies Irae" in the first measures (the left hand) !

    I love Rachmaninov

  • @Rachoszsky I'm actually not surprised, it's Rach anyway =P

  • @Rachoszsky Surprised? Rach pretty much put this motif whereever he could . ;)

  • eerie...

  • love it. ashkenazy's interpretations are always so transparent, even at the most turbulent parts. admire. thanks for posting

  • Ashkenazy is always my favourite for rachmaninov.

  • I meant Ovchinikov with this particular one, Ashkenazy's complete set is far superior.

  • Tied for my favorite recording with Ovchinikov's. Ovchinikov's are a mixed bag, a few of them are very good while some are awful. Ashkenazy's complete set is very good.

  • well yeah... :D

  • This piece is technically fairly simple. The challenge is in the voicing and singing the melody.

  • not that simple..

  • Agreed. I made this comment quite hastily, and totally agree that this description is perfunctory. I simply meant to convey (I believe in response to another listener) that this piece is not spectacular difficult when compared to other of the etudes. Cheers.

  • That's true

i said it 'cause i'm playing this etude right now and it has some difficult parts. But i agree with you, the voicing and singing are the true challenge (:

  • I played it myself a few years back, and yes there are some tricky parts. 2:43 to 3:35 Particularly closer to the end of this segment there are some typical Rachmaninoff challenges. Good luck with it, and I'm glad you're still (:'ing. Cheers

  • thx! i really enjoy this one :D

  • I agree, I was looking through the book of etudes last night and stumbled upson this. I srated to play it...it really is beautiful.

  • haha, i did exactly the same thing yesterday xD
