I love the parallels--the dog bowl melting into the cereal bowl; the boy looking out the window and the dog looking out of its cage; the boy waking up alone in the beginning and then going to sleep with the dog in the bed at the end. And the dog is adorable, especially its little breathing belly. Well done!
