Well put @ghettoflyer. GM needs to make one of these concepts, if not both. Should they settle for one, the Tru 140S. Yes, the 130R has got the RWD drivetrain, but RWD is not the end-all of this A vs. B debate. The 130R looks like the UGLY Mazda Rx-8 mated with Lightning McQueen to produce this awkward, deformed "sports" coupe. It's hard to believe the Tru 140S belongs to GM, one of the worst companies on the planet when it comes to design. Give the sexier car the sporty RWD option, or even AWD!
The Dart... kind of a MEh car think it's just one I will wait and see. GM has always been weird about full committal to performance imagine... "performance = wreckless driving = people killed or injured in GM vehicles in the news = higher insurance rates = not as many people buy GM performance" Fear! Larger 3 series to 5 series size... Probably not the best idea for enthusiast market... regular custom market probably a good idea. Should those people should have just bought 5 series... probably.
I don't like the NSX ( wanted to see something closer to the original shape). The LF-LC Made me think they should make a (not as exotic)/ detuned LFA with the truck V8 and price it to compete with the corvette/ mid range Ferrari. To recoup some of the development cost (to bring down the price for future LFA) and get more people to experience the car.
I think GM should flip the drive train of the 130R and TRU140S. The 130R looks more like a people carrier with lots of trunk space and head room, make it FF so any one can drive it in any conditions. The TRU140S Looks more like a sports car make it FR which could go up against the Hyundai genesis coupe, Mazda MX5, Z4, and replace the solstice.
The ATS will be the first homerun for the upcoming next gen GM cars... This chassis will revitalize the Camaro and the CTS as well. Ford is in trouble if the ATS was able to achieve a sub 3400 lb curbweight. We can expect similar curbweights for the alpha Camaro. I would love to see Ford do the same with an IRS chassis.
The ATS-V will be serious M3 contender if they give it a proper engine whether it be a TT V6 or V8 but it must atleast be 420-450HP
The US auto makerrs really need to push there compact sports car ideas so they can have something to show for around the world or better yet in there own house, with BMW, Audi, Honda and even Hyundai buliding cars that can be fast, fun and above all bought. I see civic's left and right because thay made race spec models but rarly any US car because they dont. Fiat even made a race spec 500 for sell on the open market in europe, if Fiat can do that surly the US market can do something.
@koniggsSCCsport Um, yes it is. There's less weight for the engine to haul, and there's less mass to swing around, making it a more efficient, faster, and much better around the track.
I'm likin the code 30 i see the frs/brz and mazda miata, being the fighters. I hope more of these come out i'd love to see these in the streets and on the tracks sort of like the new era of "Muscle cars" so to speak. cuz now a days i'd rather see mostly the older model cars late 90's supra and rx7 vs mustangs and camaro's. its too black and white. The scene needs to be covered in a load of cars that moves away from the white grey and black and enters the full color spectrum.
Why GM do not build the body and style of the Tru 140s into the chassis of the RWD code 130R. I don't like the style of the code 130r but I like the RWD chassis.
I liked this segment. Going over all the new designs and giving your opinions. I like the 140S is a better looking car, but the RWD 4banger is more interesting idea. The Dodge Dart does look like a true successor to the Neon. But the Alfa looks better, much better. I hope this does well for Dodge. The NSX looks OK. Not great, but ok. The LF-LC is cool, the grill is different and good. Too many queues from the LF-A though. The ATS is cool, but its no 3 series, Caddy- Prove it!
Lincoln is dead... especially with designs like that. For the new 3 series, doesn't seem like a big enough design change. But they are changing all of the engines... so it is going to be a new 3 series.
So what about the Porsche's? They showed off the new 991 coupe and cabriolet... and dropped the redesigned Boxster. Which for a chick car looks pretty cool. The headlights are very cool. The 991 is freaking phenomenal!
I want both of them Chevy's!! The dodge is Meh.. The NSX is sexy as hell! And maybe one of the best cars on the road! The LF-LC is ok.. Nothing fantastic and looks like a bottom feeder.. The Caddie doesn't look great and I don't think it will be great on the road.. The Lincon looks ridiculous!! M5 6 SPEED MANUAL!! YUSS!! The 3 Seris is just another 3 Seris..
Hmm when I think iconic 3 series I think of e21 and e30, I don't wanna hear about a 3 series getting bigger. Guess we gotta rely on the 1 series for that.
But the ATS is very competitive with the 3-series, I my self am a current owner of a E90 335i and I would really think about trading my 335i in for a ATS.
Sorry to say guys I like the coupe look for GM...and what the f*^% the other concept did not look good before you know it they are gonna wanna put it in a transformers movie with the new caddy going up against BMW well I wanna see them put their money were their mouth is I wanna see them come up with a GT version of their new caddy and beat the BMW m3 gt car then people will start taking them seriously when they wanna go against a brand like that...and the NSX looks good o and can't forget hybr
Mr. Burns' grandson was the spokesperson for the 3 series. It is ironic that the Dart has the fenders hitting the tires like a an old BMW, while the new 3 was hiked up like an old Neon.
Based on the CTS-V vs an M5, I'm going to have to disagree with Leo's view of the ATS this time. Do hope the ATS is available in a wagon version soon though. It should look better.
Chevy should build the Code 130R, with rear drive. the kids will gobble it up. Hell the kid in me wants one a s low cost BMW 135. Just bring the BHP. If it comes with less than 230, it's a bust. I fear Chevy will come in with a Cobalt 170 wheezer and call it a day.
I had a Dodge Dart as my first car in 1980 it was a '72. This new one looks nothing like it, and my soul says, Meh? But I love the reboot, and feel this car will go places that Dodge couldn't go with the neon.
I'm seriously considering purchasing a turbo model of the 2013 Fiesta or 2013 Focus, so it would definitely be awesome if you guys could cover them a bit.
I think both of those Chevy concepts are pretty awesome, but the white one, considering visibility.... I can't imagine actually purchasing it. It looks awesome, but functionality rules over aesthetics.
The NSX looks awesome, but I'd still prefer the retro styling of the older models.
Still don't get why the Americans, who - as we all know - can't drive "stick", get the manual transmission in the M5, where as we're stuck with the shitty double clutch automatic here in Europe.
In Denmark for instance it's not even allowed to drive an automatic while getting a license...
BMW 3: "Overall dimensions increased" Great. Again? "Customers wanted more rear legroom." Then why did they buy it in the first place? Stop listening to gripes, they're killing the product.
i liked the red chevrolet concept better then the white one, the white one as soon as i saw it i thought eclipse but the red is like a baby camaro i dig it, and if its as cheap as your talking about then it's actually in my price range as long as it has power to back it up i'd be in, even if they made the major engine the v6 from the camaro with 300 hp that'd be awesome, though of course i'd prefer a v8
the 130r is a potential great car. The only thing I would want is an increase to of about 50hp(unless it's elise weight which i doubt it will be) and for a production version to maintain the same styling.
i like the 140. so sweet. THO i like RWD much better. in the end i think they should make BOTH. the 130 is more muscle looking and the 140 is more edgy and sexy.
140S with a 2010 Cobalt SS engine. Somehow getting that 260hp and 260trq turbo 4 to the RWD platform and the have got me sold. I can get 30 MPG in my 12 year old GTP so 35 out of that Cobalt SS 2.0 turbo you would think would be fairly easy. In an awesome looking vehicle as the 140S I would buy in an instant. As for the 130, make it RWD today's youth needs to learn to drive on a RWD vehicle. Build them both 140S for fun and 130 for economy.
If you ever been to NYC you would see how much of a hit the Town Car was.. lincoln take notes.. with the way BMW is going the 1 series will be size of a x5 in 15 years time. i know the new 3 series would probably be awesome, just saying whats the point of making it bigger when there already is a car in their line-up that would cater to those bigger car needs.
I don't get Lexus. Lexus is a brand who (lets face it) appeals to only old people. (with the exception of my buddy who has an IS). why don't they embrace catering to the 50 + community? the words lexus and sporty just dont sound right together.. give the sporty to scion, who has no idea what that means.
@LeoParente no your reviews are shit, the only good car at the show was the Cadillac ATS, i was there . Yet, you talk about all these other average shit cars, and barely talk about the Cadillac. The ATS is easily killing off the 3 series. I've had BMW's, they're shit compared to Cadillacs.
@UFCextra Which bimmers did you have specifically and for how long? You sound more butt hurt than sensible and logical with these comments (especially suggesting all of BMW's offerings are **** compared to Cadillac).
@UFCextra It was a fine review, I see as many bmw's as honda civics - so they're not that special, but ya, I agree with you, Cadillac ATS is the best car at the show.
Very important to note as well: M division was very reluctant to put the manual transmission in the M5 due to the extra R&D and engineering required to make it all work harmoniously with the S63Tu.
So, way to go North America!!! Keep the 6MT dream alive.
the tru140 looks a little cts coupe style which i don't and its front wheel drive so if they want to go head to head with the bavarians and their 1 series they need to make the code30
thumbs down to anyone who said tru 140 with RWD, aesthetically it just doesn't fit...I mean really get a good look at it and think about actually seeing it on the road cause it just doesn't seem like a good idea
I like the Dodge Dart. It would only be better if it were RWD with an AWD option. The front end resemblance to the Charger is fine but they could have modelled the side on the second generation Dart (1962) for a little extra "something".
As a competitor for the Ford Fiesta, though, I think the Dart wins because it has a lighter, better chassis and more efficient engines.
Agree with Spinelli on Lincoln. They seem to be tip-toeing around, and not going for it. (5:50). As for the Cadillac.... similar story, the only difference is that Caddy didn't perform on the track, so they have a reason not to build new cars....It's great that the CTV was developed on the Nurburgring, but did it win? Exactly.
Ohhhh shut up the cast on here and FLD is great and it's more of people we can relate to....everyone who disagrees can suck it(that suck it part was childish but seriously do better or shut up)
First off, great coverage guys. Second, Leo I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks Cadillac is crazy for trying to go against the BMW 3-series. Also, BMW bringing back the 6-speed manual for the M5 because of historical records...best news I've heard in a long time. So let me get this straight, people in North America still buy cars with manual transmissions? *sarcasm. Like everyone else, I think Dodge should've just called the Dart a Neon. We'll see with the NSX. Still a concept, after all.
- Mechanically I like the 130R. Style-wise I like the 140S.
- The MKZ. Good but not enough. Lincoln needs a new RWD sport coupe and/or sedan.
- The ATS. Will be awesome. GM needs to shut up and let their work speak for itself. Claiming a car as a benchmark is not a bad thing. Considering the new 3-series, the ATS is going to grab up those BMW is leaving behind, plus some converts.
- LF-LC. Lexus might not build it. It may cost too much to do so, at this time, or the near future.
The LF-LC looks stunning and has hands down the best interior of any car I have ever seen. Really hope the build it and as for the NSX, well it's living up to the name and we'll see if it can make use of all that technology. Going to have to agree with Leo about the ATS but my opinion could change if they ever make a V variant. Also glad BMW is listening to their customers.
Had another look at ATS v BMW 3. Look at wheel to body proportions, especially rear + amount of body above rear wheel well. Then tell me which car is a sports sedan. Check interiors, too. Just noting.
So you dismiss the ATS for trying to take on the 3 series with a small light car with a manual option, but are only slightly concerned that the new 3 series is as big as the old 5? I, for one, am really liking this Cadillac. And maybe this newfound competition will force the 3 to up its game. Remember, competition can only improve the breed.
The ATS can't compare to the 3 series? If I remember correctly, the CTSV was the fastest 4 door around the Nurburgring when it came out and it was in the same range as the 5 series. Based on Cadillac's sporting potential from the CTSV, I say it is completely reasonable for the ATS to be compared to the 3 series.
lincoln just needs to go away. There is absolutely nothing I would buy from them. You have to be crazy to buy anything from Lincoln when the germans are building such great cars. Cadillac needs to really spice up the ATS. Its boring. Look at the CTS coupe, the design language was extraordinary. The ATS looks like a rectangle with massaged headlights. Love the new NSX. Im guessing the chevelle concept was the chevy duckbill concept.....it'll do.
Chevy needs to put the drivetrain of the red car into the white car. The white one looks better but I don't like the FWD concept. The only thing attractive about the red car is the RWD.
The LF-LC looks gorgeous. Cadillac need to change their styling IMO... it looks rather old and looks to jaggy and angular, but not good jaggy...... erghhhhhhhhh the Lincoln looked horrible. look so "10 year old American saloon" which i guess they are.. am i right! BMW six speed... good decision.. 3 series... never liked the styling, but appreciated the tech.
the red one is ghastly. the white one is nice, but no front drive please, unless they can make it drive like a mini - doubtful. dart? just hope it's not a sebring. nsx really does look like an r8, with more creases... LFLC, if i bought a LFA, i would want to hang myself. caddy... looks the same as every other one... boring. speaking of boring, the 3 series looks too much like a 5
It really saddens me to see that the 3-series is actually as big as the old 5-series, not even 6 years ago the 3-series was the little monster on the road that no one would suspect being very very fast. Now thats very different being as its so big. So if i were to go to a BMW dealership to buy a car today, i would ask to see the used M3 E46's
I dont like the NSX and I'm telling you guys now that 130r or the tru140 will be a good direction and has a lot of potential with a lil bit of revisions before the final output comes out...i prefer RWD
wow the 3series is as big as the old 5 series? wtf? if you wanted more leg room in your 3, why no just buy a 5? so have they abandoned the compact sedan concept? will they be making a 4dr 1series?
@elyne2 Sadly thats what it may come to, though they might be abandoning the 1 series for a 2-series, although the actual size of the car wont be any different. it will just be easier when it comes to badging the //M version, it can actually be an M2 instead of having to flip the name it and call it a 1M
While I do like the design a little more with the Chevy Tru, but I like that the 130R has RWD--it starts to enter into the world that Toyota wants to own with their 86.
First off, I love BMW, but I don't like the esthetic design of the new 3-series; and larger? Secondly, I love you Leo, but I like Caddy openly challenging the 3-series. They want to make a statement and that's a BIG one. They only have themselves to blame if they fail--when reviews come out--but it's a great ballsy American move. They have had great success with the CTS and they'd be stupid not to try and ride that momentum further. And come on, ATS-V with AWD. Legendary win. ^_~
@GuoxJason hahaha!! I just cant think of one Lexus that I wouldn't have its competitions car in the same segment. hybrid technology doesn't really float my boat either. But that LFA is a special car.
a Guido from Staten Island is never going to look as a true Italian. The Alfa version is way better looking and double you tea eff with the sedan version?
I like to see a resurrection of small RWD cars. Back then, it wasn't much option as power was limited without extensive tuning, but now that engine technology is in its place, I think the world is ready to give it a try again.
I've been noticing Chryslers recent cars have been "forgetting" the Damiler years. Remember the bug eyed Grand Cherokee? This current generation forgot all about that one and continued with the styling cues from two generations ago. Same with the Dart. It's design goes "What's a Caliber?" I'll be taking mine with the 1.4 Multiair with a six speed please!
Watching this vid, just want 2 say - a] DRIVE tried 2 get a Cadillac interview - 2 give you a truer A / B comparison w/ BMW 3 [as Cad wants] + b] I may sound all pro-BMW....but no. Just saying not really feeling ATS as currently shown is anything other than a really good small Cadillac. The BMW / Nurburgring pr is just 2 allow ATS owner 2 answer the "why'd u buy THAT' question with "but it beat BMW at the 'Ring....". ATS is still too Cadillac bling, IMO.
@LeoParente If they really say its better than an 3 series why don't they try to sell them here in Europe?
I don't think it looks to "american" to spook away European customers, though it would need a competitive turbo diesel option to have any chance of survival against any 300d or Mercedes C series CDI.
@ruigoncalves2 "...and the Sun resolves around the Earth." Thus you don't think Cadillac has/will make cars more to Europe likes, like the ATS. Even so, Europeans are, as we call the like in the US, "Pocketbook Patriots", they won't buy anything from outside Europe. It's almost pathological. But if it isn't European, doesn't matter if it is actually as good or better, "it must be inferior". But we'll see.
@LeoParente "Bling" is a pretty subjective term. Much like the word "ugly", it really has no firm meaning, at least in terms of cars, beyond the person who says it. Of course, if the right person says it "It must be so", even if you honestly think otherwise.
I like the ATS, even if it isn't a sharp looking as the current CTS. Nothing wrong with being shiny, visually well defined, and/or having shiny bits, as long as it's done well. Cadillac has been doing it very well.
so i said this in another video but ill say it again ditch the styling on the code and take its drivetrain, take the tru's styling on the code's drivetrain and add a bigger engine like gm's 2.0t and add an ss badge and they have a winner, minus the grille but they can work on that
the tru140s with rear wheel drive please!!!.... although knowing chevy ... its gonna look like the chevy cruze with two doors by the time its in production.....
i have to lmao @bmw, as always. "we listen to our customers so we made the 3 series bigger. it's now a 5 series from 10 year ago"
if the customer wants a bigger car leave the 3 series as it is and sell him a 5 series, you moron!!!!!!!! there are customers that DON'T want more space and a bigger car. you don't listen to them, do you? fucking slimy jerkoffs -.-
Well put @ghettoflyer. GM needs to make one of these concepts, if not both. Should they settle for one, the Tru 140S. BADASS show! This shit keeps getting better!

In Denmark for instance it's not even allowed to drive an automatic while getting a license...

i liked the red chevrolet concept better then the white one, the white one as soon as i saw it i thought eclipse but the red is like a baby camaro i dig it, and if its as cheap as your talking about then it's actually in my price range as long as it has power to back it up i'd be in, even if they made the major engine the v6 from the camaro with 300 hp that'd be awesome, though of course i'd prefer a v8

the 130r is a potential great car. The only thing I would want is an increase to of about 50hp(unless it's elise weight which i doubt it will be) and for a production version to maintain the same styling.

I like the Dodge Dart. It would only be better if it were RWD with an AWD option. The front end resemblance to the Charger is fine but they could have modelled the side on the second generation Dart (1962) for a little extra "something".
As a competitor for the Ford Fiesta, though, I think the Dart wins because it has a lighter, better chassis and more efficient engines.
thefishman1987 1 month ago
Agree with Spinelli on Lincoln. They seem to be tip-toeing around, and not going for it. (5:50). As for the Cadillac.... similar story, the only difference is that Caddy didn't perform on the track, so they have a reason not to build new cars....It's great that the CTV was developed on the Nurburgring, but did it win? Exactly.

@DocWolph the previous Cadillac models didn't sell very well and had mediocre reviews.
ruigoncalves2 1 month ago
@ruigoncalves2 "...and the Sun resolves around the Earth." Thus you don't think Cadillac has/will make cars more to Europe likes, like the ATS. Even so, Europeans are, as we call the like in the US, "Pocketbook Patriots", they won't buy anything from outside Europe. It's almost pathological. But if it isn't European, doesn't matter if it is actually as good or better, "it must be inferior". But we'll see.
DocWolph 1 month ago
@LeoParente "Bling" is a pretty subjective term. Much like the word "ugly", it really has no firm meaning, at least in terms of cars, beyond the person who says it. Of course, if the right person says it "It must be so", even if you honestly think otherwise.
I like the ATS, even if it isn't a sharp looking as the current CTS. Nothing wrong with being shiny, visually well defined, and/or having shiny bits, as long as it's done well. Cadillac has been doing it very well.
DocWolph 1 month ago
