@jennadiet That's because the dwarves are played by actors of a normal size, which doesn't matter for things like close ups. But if you see them walk from a distance you would obviously notice their not the right size. So for many moments they use the smaller people to get the scale right, which is almost impossible to do everywhere with special effects. So the big ones are the actual actors, the smaller ones are stand ins. Hope this helped! ;)

@WASuggs Well, the hobbit was a more lighthearted story, it was even meant for kids but at the same time for adults so he probably tries to get the feeling from the book to this movie, this isnt as serious as LOTR.
