  • the whole time he was stuck in the fuzzy ball bouncing i was thinking "wall walking boots?"

  • 2 months late, but couldnt he have just put the red switch on, dash into the red blocks, turn off, then walk past?

  • @sjcodan Oh, nope, I'm just a stupid dan

  • 4:40

  • Personally I just like to watch him suffer. It brings great joy and happiness into my life.

  • Everyone is saying that the commentary makes this worth watching... I'm sorry, but "tah, tah, tah, noooo!" about 99 times in a row is not compelling commentary. Raocow not playing any mario hacks, I guess I'd better take another rao-break.

  • 1. @raocow: homebrew: is that possibly a word you might have been looking for?

    2. @everyone else: if you don't like how this particular LP is being executed, the solution it simple: don't watch

you know there is another LP going on simultaneously, so it's not like you can't get your 'fix'

  • Also, just to clarify, I still love you raocow. You still blind me with science <3

    bff forever and so forth

  • This is hypnotic. I could watch you bounce on little fuzzy guys while you make noises and talk about business loans all day.

  • For me, it's always worth it not just for the commentary but the heavy gasps and contagious laughter at the end when he succeeds XD

  • Also, fans asking for less content is a strange concept.

  • @wheedler Depends on your definition of "content".

  • I think games like Flower are usually referred to as "arty" games.

  • I completely agree with the description.

No matter how much content it shows, however, it's still entertaining to watch, and listen to your commentary.

If you don't keep in the struggling to figure things out, it'll be less than 3 minutes, but it would also not show how much you improve, from the beginning of each video.

    Great video!

  • I LOL'd at 17:16.

  • I would just stick to calling it indie, although that doesn't exclude commercial indie games. Indie is anything not put out by one of the big publishers/developers.

It bears mentioning that "professional" designers aren't exempt from turning out crap and mediocrity either. Creativity and diversity both appear to me to be lacking in the mainstream.

Also, at this point I know that if I ever play this game, I won't have the patience for the special world.

  • When I think about indy games, I think about Indiana Jones for some reason. The word "indy" invokes Mr. Jones on my head D:.

  • Wow, the guy that's in the highest rated comments also had a comment that got too many negative votes... I have to respect a man who can pull off both ends of the spectrum like that.

  • raocow, dun lissen to these people, i enjoy watching you struggle, they can keep whining and not watch the videos if they want, don't let them screw it up for those of us that enjoy watching you struggle

  • How does the length of the video affect the monetization?

  • @anonymousbl00dlust I'd rather see raocow keep it the way it is. If raocow makes the changes you suggest, I expect that he will upload Nitroid videos even less frequently than he already does, and we would definitely miss out on most of his wonderful commentary (which, to me, is raocow's biggest appeal). Besides all of that, the points that raocow brings up in the video are quite valid. I think he's making the right choice here, although I'd probably agree with you if this wasn't raocow.

  • I can appreciate the non-rudeness of the 17 minute video there raocow, to be honest I love your longer videos even though there is only like two minutes of level there is 17 minutes of content and struggling. Like.

  • I like the part where he bounces on a fuzzy guy.

  • Yes, Raocow. "Dubstep" is obviously a cheat code that must be spoken aloud to skip to the next checkpoint. Sadly, Nitroid's voice recognition only recognizes German accents, and a few Russian dialects.

  • You have to play this more often man, please.

  • "There's something going on with Fox McCloud." Oh man, Star Fox reference! :D

  • By the way, I've been the Earthkeeper does help you climb up. It allows you to drop straight down onto the bouncies when you need it.

  • 01:00 Seudo-Brentalfloss reference?

    Love Raocow´s victory scream XD

    Great segment :D

  • "Amateur" was originally meant to mean doing something for the love of doing it. I don't know how it got twisted into how people use it now.

  • Professionals tend to be more competent, simply by virtue of the fact that they do what they do for a living and tend thus to have more practice, or at least more to lose if they don't practice and get competent. It's not even a twisting. It's just a consequence.

  • "lets play NITROID and jump around for half an hour talk about puzzles," if by "half an hour," you mean 18 minutes, and by "puzzles," you mean business loans.

  • It's only a matter of time before THAT room...

  • cool...

i hope this is in /a/

  • I was going constanty "You never gonna make it! you NEVER gonna make it! Never ever make it, ever make it". and when he did, I was literary jumping whit joyful surprise! x3

  • 15:24 My uncle Joe owns a restaurant :/

  • As the lp-person, it would be rude of me to remove the most important of these levels, then

    sooo spite it is then

  • Aww man, you could've just skipped the hole white fuzzy guy thing by pushing the block over the hole and dashing into it...

  • I think the producers are assholes. This thing is like it can occur only all the 100 times. "Hey, I have an idea, let's put a random challenge like that, it's not fun, it has one chance on 100 to be completed, but it's not one chance on infinity, so it's clearable, that's just hard." The funniest is that it's not random, you just have to be on the right frame at the right time, that's not even Touhou spirit, the majority of the spellcards were not that unfair with their patterns. Just sayin~

  • Wow, I actually had to stop watching at the 10min mark because the circular pattern was making me nauseous. Or it could be the strawberry oatmeal and eggnog I was eating. Never eating THAT combo again... o__O

  • Is it just me, or does the video look brighter? Heck, i'm fine with a video no matter how little progress it has. My daily dose of cowrao MUST BE SATISFIED in any means necessary.

  • 14:02 I sense raocow dubstep in our future. Generic CAW, get on that!

  • DUBSTEP indeed.

  • BUT I REALLY LIKE JO'S

  • Raocow: keeping the "Let's" in Let's Play.

  • I didn't realize it until the same movements started to come out, but this is set up just like a game of pinball. It only occurred to me when I saw raocow bouncing in a way that looked like he'd be safe, but ended up in instant-death-spikes. Because that's exactly how most of my pinball experiences are... one wrong bounce skips the bumpers and ends up directly into the chute.

  • I get the "producers" wanted an endurance factor in it, but it is still boring to watch you mess up for 12 minutes. It doesn't enhance the experience, at least for me.

  • @MrVirrus Maybe not. But it gives me something fun to listen to while doodling~

  • Oh gosh, I had to stop watching at 12:15 because of IRL constraints. I CAN'T BEAR THE SUSPENSE.

  • @LUESoldat Since when does raocow have to one style? We know he's capable of being serious and not everyone has a problem with that. His "style" is in his older videos.

It's been explicitly clear that world 5 is different from the rest of the game, and a hard nut to crack. If you're going to judge the game, look at the other worlds first.

  • @LUESoldat vauge memories are telling me raocow once said 'watch for the game, not the talkings' in more words. No one's forcing you to watch Nitroid, so don't if it makes you unhappy or something like that.

  • @LUESoldat And your last comment.

  • The cool thing about let's players like Raocow and some of the other SA oldies are their ability to show the game for what it is. If it takes x amount of time to do a thing, we should be able to see that. We need to see the game for as it is. A lot of "new" let's players edit so much out of the game that we don't even get to see the game. This is raw, and the fact that Raocow can continue a repetitive moment like this and still give us deliciously impromptu comedic-commentary is amazing.

  • 07:45

It has a certain FreedoMN, you say?

  • I felt an actual wave of relief when Rao finally made the last bounce. This game's HARD. ._.

  • Discussing economy with Nitori.

  • YOU MUST DAAAAAH

  • I love how during the long and calm explanation raocow has problems getting higher than the second guy, but as soon as he panics immiediatly afterwards he almost manages to get it right multiple times in a row.

So, does that mean raocow needs to panic more often to play better?

  • I want those bouncy guys in that Veni Vidi Vici portion of VVVVVV and for raocow to complete it. This is my demand for I demand it.

  • do you like dubstep raocow?

  • Whenever I get frustrated now, instead of swearing, I will look up to the heavens and cry, 'DUBSTEP!!'

  • it sucks how if you want to read more comments, you need to press SEE ALL COMMENTS which will quit the video

in old youtube layot you had comment pages

  • @Happytreefriendsfan3 just middle click to open them up in a new tab

  • me: ok i have to goto school so leme see how far he gets (watches first few minutes, skips to 17 min, same place) ok ill watch this after school xp

  • I feel the strange urge to go in a shop and buy 5 kilos of demak'up

  • Raocow: I think you're conflating "art" indie games with the rest of indie games. Sure, there are some that straddle the line like the BIT.TRIP series, but Super Meat Boy is definitely an amateur-made (it started as a Flash game on Newgrounds) independent game. Romhacks on the other hand, amateur is a good term for them instead of indie, since they're ultimately not independent from whatever professional, non-indie game they're hacking.

  • and i completely agree on your style, that is exactly the reason i like lets plays because its the whole experience. i mean if you'd just want to watch the game completed why not watch a speedrun, or even tool assisted speedrun of the game.. sorry about the double post :p

  • Thank you for sharing Raocow !

  • british colonialists made it so that you drive on the left side while french(and other continental europe countries for some reason or the other, maybe brits just wanted to be different) made it so that you drive on the right

  • DUBSTEP!!!

  • @anonymousbl00dlust I've explained my position, you are free to agree or disagree.

  • @raocow It's amazing how many people think that you owe them something. I apologize on behalf of every American subscriber. You can do whatever you want, and if they don't like it, they don't have to watch.

    1.) they have complete control

2.) they won't loose their deposit

3.) the subscription is refundable and re-subscribable

It seems as if these basic things aren't understood by MOST, so they make emotional thoughts rather than logical ones. I bet you a $2 that he's still sub'd to ProJo.

  • @EighteenCharacters It's amazing to me how people can construed what I stated multiple times to be nothing but an opinion as outright demands. Just because I don't like a single raocow series doesn't mean I somehow hate his guts and feel he owe's me something. Its seems like any time someone on the internet voices even the smallest concern everyone jumps to the conclusion that they are hating or trolling. Grow up.

BTW, I never subscribed to Proton Jon. I can't finish his videos.

  • @anonymousbl00dlust Aren't fandoms usually defensive like that? I guess to be fair, some people could still be touchy after that flame war a few days ago.

Personally, I'm okay with videos like this if there's something interesting or funny in the commentary (YMMV of course), but having read over your comments, I think your position is reasonable. Your suggestion might be better general practice.

  • @FMagl oh, well that makes more sense. I don't really involve myself in the romhacking community unless its to submit something or ask for help (used to troll big time but I don't do that nearly as often anymore). I didn't know there even WAS a flame war, hehe.

I'm happy to see we can happily respect each others opinions! Understanding and respecting other views, IMO is often more constructive than reaching a consensus... hooray internet!

  • @anonymousbl00dlust I know some other people who mellowed out a lot over time. I agree things are better this way.

I don't know if the flames spread anywhere beyond the comments for one video, so maybe "flame battle" would be more accurate? Heh.

  • @EighteenCharacters Stop trying to stand on a pedestal. Raocow doesn't need you defending him and just because you like his stuff doesn't mean people can't criticize it, which only seems to be, "There's little content".

I like his stuff, but this was hard to watch even with his commentary. Using the excuse, "I wanted it to be hard to watch" isn't a good excuse because people still don't want to watch it.

  • @EighteenCharacters

Yes, because ONLY American Raofans criticize this or that video of his.

  • @anonymousbl00dlust Considering how incredibly long it takes him, you're asking him to A) spend hours of his day to release a 10 minute video, or B) release 2 minute videos

  • @DispariScuro or, you know, he could just release videos of nitroid less frequently but with some amount of substance?

I get where raocow is coming from, I just disagree with it. If I wanted to taste the endurance aspect of the game I would play it myself. Obviously raocow can do what he wants, but I'm also free to only watch the last 30 seconds of the video, as much as it saddens me to.

  • @DispariScuro I'm a huge fan of Raocow's LPs, but I'm not a lemming. I respect his opinion and recognize that what he chooses to do is his choice. That being said, the comment field is a thing that exists, and constructive criticism is a thing to be had.

In my honest opinion, the substance of these nitroid videos is becoming moot. I wouldn't say that if I didn't care.

  • @anonymousbl00dlust and as a non-lemming it is your solemn duty to follow a series you don't like? I don't know how you'd go about let's playing this, then? Constructive criticism isn't saying "I don't like this," it's saying "this could be better, try this maybe."

I don't think you've got a good idea of what you're talking about!

  • @1andonlyWojjan I've come to like the series less and less, but I still scrub through to see if there's something worthwhile.

Also, my constructive criticism was pretty straightforward (and again, just my opinion!): don't milk the series. Either edit multiple days of playing into a single, meaningful video, or designate larger chunks of play time over wider intervals.

Ugh, why does every difference of opinion have to turn so hostile? Can we not just talk about things like reasonable people?

  • @anonymousbl00dlust We've been discussing this in the thread, that it's taxing to play for long. Maybe he can combine multiple days of playing, though. It's easier to appreciate that this world consumes time and effort once you play this far.

  • @anonymousbl00dlust I can talk like a reasonable person. I disagree with your opinion, personally I'm entertained by most things raocow puts out. Does that make me a lemming? Well, no. It just means mine and raocow's tastes align somewhere along the road. You, however, watch the LP for more of the game and only seeing two minutes of the game in 17 minutes upsets you, I assume. I understand, and would agree with you if I wasn't just so entertained by this video. xD

  • @anonymousbl00dlust Why censor this? If the game maker built in these ugly parts, and expects people to endure them, then we shouldn't hide them.

  • Best thing about Raocow is his battle screams when he panics

    "Da... da... dampstep!!!!"

  • The main difference between free and non-free "indie" games is that the indie games have people they have to appeal to (because otherwise they're not going to earn the money they need to stay in business), whilst free games are made as a seperate hobby thing where the author has nobody to appeal to but him/herself.

The result of this is that with indie games, a lot of decisions are taken to make the game more enjoyable for the average player, whilst for free games, it's for the author/friends.

  • When a business trying to 'launch' wants to take out a loan they need to show the bank their business plan, which includes market research, their forecasts for revenue, expenditure and profit, and generally convince the bank that they aren't going to waste their money by showing them how (potentially) profitable the venture is.

  • lets play precise platforming pinball!

  • Wait, is this an official Touhou game? I thought the Touhou universe consisted of, like, three official titles and a hundred billion fan-driven internet spin-offs.

  • @CPCGamer It's a fan game.

  • @CPCGamer There's something like 12-13 official games, actually. THEN we get spin-offs like whoa.

This is not counting ZUN-approved spin-offs, like the fighting games.

  • @CPCGamer

First off ZUN is already up to Touhou Project 13, not including all the official music CDs, in-universe encyclopedias, and books. It's not "like three official titles".

Second off, yes this is a fan game.

  • @CPCGamer

Actually, that 13 doesn't include any of the side games like Touhou 9.5: Shoot the Bullet

In total there's actually 19 official games.

  • Near the last minute stretch, I started whispering to myself "Come on Raocow...come on."

  • It's time for a VERY bouncy fireside chat with Raocow.

  • At least you safe a lot of money when you play amateur games, assuming you buy everything always.

  • Brutal O.o

  • All these ridiculous puzzles and platforming gimmicks I see in this game just makes me love it more. For some reason I just love shit like this, even if it makes my brain want to melt. I guess I'm just a fan of stupid and ridiculous difficulty that is still slightly possible.

  • Yay for progress, no matter how little.

  • firs.. ah who cares new YT sux
