Non-French people have to understand one thing about Françoise Hardy. In the mid 60's she was an icon for people like Bowie or Jagger. They all fell in love with her. She was their "muse". Hence Albarn's will to have a song with her.
Well... I thought Françoise Hardy and Damon Albarn would have been a great idea but I actually don't like this song. It's just sounds like a spoof of french music (perhaps when you're not french, it does sounds good, i don't know !)
I love Blur and I love this song by them but I have to say I much prefer this version of the song.. French is such a sexy language, not a clue what she is singing but sound sexy.. Love it and thank you
@dondev54 What does that mean...? Oasis is a simply rock'n'roll band. They played their music alone, Oasis never made featuring in 19 years. But i'm sure if Noel Gallagher asked her to sing on Don't Look back in Anger, Stand by Me, or Wonderwall (for exemple), she accepted... Sorry, for my English, it's horrible.
Françoise Hardy said she ruined the song. Personnaly, I don't see how. Apart from the live in The Best Of Blur Disc 2, This is my favorite version of this song.
Wait a minute - did I miss something here? When was this released?
Anyway - tres cool. Ever since I saw the original video, I have always longed to spend my life in black tie cocktail parties in castles outside of Prague.
I am french, i understand the lyrics, and really, really, this version far below the original one. French is a language for speaking during hours, about weather, politics, meaning of life, your last girl, etc... But it really sounds awful when sung. Especially on a rythme basically made for english language. If french have to be sung, it is very slow (like in operas, see Lakmé), or very fast (due to the total lack of accentuation, the music give it). French is not romantic when it's ridiculous.
I definitely agree on the fact that our language doesn't fit rock well, but saying that there were no great french rock band is untrue. Noir Désir was a great rock band, musically good, amazing on stage, and lyrically excellent. It's a shame they are not better known abroad (and that the singer fucked up)
Like you say, you don't like french artists, which doesn't mean that there is no great french rock band. I personnally don't like american rock, but it doesn't mean that none are great you see. It's all subjective.
Well, as pure rock, I would recommend No One is Innocent, but it is better when you understand french... Louise attaque is OK too, I'm not too keen on them
But I'm kind of an english rock fan, so my knowledge on french rock is quite limited...
Noir Désir is a huge rock band, as said below. I personnaly like Pony Hoax a lot, it's recent and kind of strange. For Louise Attaque, listen to there first album, Louise Attack : it's the better one.
-M- makes really good rock, he's amazing at the guitar (he made the soundtrack of a whole movie improvising while watching the movie).
Manu Chao
Yann Tiersen
Older bands like Telephone in the 80s were really good.
That's all I can remember. I don't know much French rock either.
Yeah I been on a quest for this too. This must be new to YouTube. I did once see a video performance by the louche lads and la belle dame Thanks though for uploading.

It's not
"C'est un accident de voir"
But
"C'est un accident de voirie."
It means "it's a car crash" but in a light way, like when two cars just bump in each other slightly ;)
Toinou666 3 years ago
Not exactly; It's : "c'est un accident de parcours"
Which means something unexpected and that shouldn't have occurred happened, because a wrong decision was made...
Btw : car crash is "un accident de voiture"

French it's such a poetical language, it goes perfect here, mixed with the original lyrics.
