Jimi is like cool comedian with his guitar, he can make you laugh out loud with a tongue-in-cheek hip phrase or a funny noise like at 1.43 or 2.09. It's like he folds the music in, turns it upside down and rolls it back out again, with rainbow colours.
Who else can or could do that on the guitar? That absolute mastery combined with the hip, laconic, gum-popping sort of humour and playfulness. Only Django, as far as I know. There are some great guitarists, but those two are just the Olympians.
turks in germany are very different generation according to us bro : )
actually the situation in turkey is not so different. rap is not popular at here but everybody like poor quality pop music( background rythyms and music are same for all of them) : )
but people around me are sick of that music so we're listenin' to jimi, stevie ray, dire straits, guns n roses, slash, pink floyd, eric clapton...etc for a long time...
@onur7373 yeah sometimes i think the turks in istanbul for example are more modern then the turks here , the problem is most of them came from poor cities or villages and some of them are very religios ,and i think religion is not a good thing if you want to live together in a multi-culti society but thats just my opinion ;)
and i dont like pop to , its all the same shit ..... in germany we call rock music like hendrix "handmade" ! pop isnt handmade at all...
god. great color in this playing. the major sixth mixed in with the whole step above the tonic.....just very advanced harmony. and to think....at this concert, if you listen to more high quality versions...you can hear biggots screaming the 'n' word at him while playing. it's like he bottled all that hatred aimed at him into the most earth-shattering electric blues we have ever heard.... this is really complex and advanced playing.....
your incorrect Mrbiggerjobs 1000, Jimi played left handed, but the strings were correctly strung with the Low E on top (they werent upside down. Albert King did play left handed with the guitar strung right handed (upside down if played left handed)
This version of Red House was the best. Feel the gentle and powerful atmosphere which gives a feel to the recording. These days nothing beats and of course the gold pieces.
One of my favourite ones Red House, and I love the early part of this version especially.....the vocal is lovely on this one, so intimate and sensual....well I'd have never locked him out ;0) ....thanks gacelaxd!
yeah people can beat around the bush all they want butwhen you look at Hendrix play you get the impression this guy had more mastery of his guitar than anybody else.
@philkapune Yes I just thought about this and you know-all those other guys learn runs and scales and tricks over and over again but Jimi learnt the guitar left handed- with the strings the wrong way round. I think this has something to do with it- he felt for the notes he wanted rather than just learning technical things from other people
Yeah, Jimi was a good interpreter of vibes. His Hawaiian stuff taps something that translates the vibe of Hawaii just like an expression of the essence of flowers or nature or a bedrock Hawaiian vibe. When you listen to Jimi at his deepest when he is in the trance of this expression he gives you the feeling of ancient powers like how you feel when you look at the pyramids or any other profound representation of deeper forms artistic, cultural, spiritual, religious or deep space. And he knew it.
@Exiles800 dude i know exactly what you mean like the full rare version of hey baby at maui puts me to tears sometimes its very tropical soundin. heard it?
What we speak of is exactly Jimi's musical genius, what defines Jimi, and what no one else can do. Hawaii definitely touched something in Jimi and allowed him to connect to his deepest talent. Voodoo, shamanism, washing souls, African ju ju, a higher form, whatever you want to call it, Jimi was able to put it to music. Hendrix's playing is so unique it is more ceremony than music, like the 'religion' he spoke of and was trying to express. Jimi was frustrated people didn't get it.
Incest? why do you say that? cuz Jimi has issues with one hoe so he moves on to try n fuk her sister....thats not incest son...its called mackin hoes aka bein a player like jimi was. so stfu kid bow down to the god of guitar jimi hendrix #1
BeenBad4U: it was names a girl Dolly Dagger she took him the heroine for toronto in his bag! But she wanted it not for bad but Jimi had to much do for his damned manager jeffery. She had too much sorrow why he burnt out. that was the reason, he always took almost no heroine, he was not addicted about heroine this was a damned lie. Thomas
The heroin had to be planted because there was no trace of heroin in Jimi's system and Jimi was smart enough not to plant a vile of heroin right on top of his clothes inside his suitcase while going through Customs. Smells like dirty ops. That "He burnt out stuff" is crap. Listen to some of his playing right towards the end. Jimi Hendrix was murdered by waterboarding by the way...
@juna2509 sure... and why are there so many hendrix videos/cd/books? i mean the goverment could easy put all hendrix stuff from the market ,because it could "change" their minds.... honestly dude that goverment shit is bullshit
totally jammed out and one of his better vocals. I rate this RH right up with his versions in San Diego , Atlanta Pop, and NY Pop Festival. Notice how he changes the words at the end of last verse from "her sister will" to "my sister will ". And holds one note from 4;47 to 4';57. Now THAT is some tension and release playing
Beautiful and very soulful . I agree with the post that points out how he just plays what he feels at the moment no matter what bs is happening around him and what bs is being yelled at him. He transcends it all. It inspires me to try and do the same.
Paul McCartney talked about Jimi's "actual talent surfacing." THIS is what he meant...
Chris Stamp of Track Records described Jimi's evocative playing as "hauntingly beautiful." THIS is what he meant...
Billy Cox said: "Every now and then a spirit slips thru the portal of time into this reality, and BLOWS our minds! I dont know where that portal is located, but I DO know Jimi slipped thru..."

HEAR MY TRAIN was another stunner! Jimi got busted in Toronto 7 weeks earlier for hash & heroin that was PLANTED in his carry-on bag. It's too bad you all have to act like clowns. Tears have been burning me, way down my cheeks. Tears way down in my heart burning me. Ever since a spirit...way down in my soul..."
Thanx gacelaxd! This is from the NewPort Pop Festival, Devonshire Downs, CA; 6-20-69 (Friday night).
SET LIST: Stone Free/Drums, Are You Experienced? Stone Free, Sunshine of Your Love, Fire, Hear My Train Comin', Red House, Foxy Lady, Like A Rolling Stone, Voodoo Chile Drums & Purple Haze.
Jimi was so unsatisfied w/his performance that he came back the next day & jammed for 2+ hrs!
JHE earned $125,000 for the concert - Highest sum ever paid a rock act for a single concert at the time!
im trying to think of a recording with jimi where his guitar is recordet line in and there is no other instruments. wanna put it through my marshall amp crank it full and luck my door and throw out the key *_*. can you think of any?
Yes 2 days later (Sunday afternoon), Jimi returned & jammed w/Buddy, and many, many others. He was angered by racist hecklers in this crow & jeered back! So unhappy, he returned unannounced for free! The Sky In Cryin is simply S*I*C*K as is Earth vs Space! Jimi wore his Blue kimono from the Dick Cavett Show appearances and played a White Strat w/Tele neck, thru Fender amps (posters were made). THAT Strat showed-up only one other time in June '69 @ an after-hours gig, never to be seen again...
Awesome! Someone ate their wheaties that day! I read somewhere that Jimi favored daytime gigs when he could actually see the audience - sure sounds like it in this clip if that's from the Newport music festival. Thanks for posting!
well it's not exactly what i'd call blues, but it sure is interesting (4:30-6:00) and sounds good!
