  • well it's not exactly what i'd call blues, but it sure is interesting (4:30-6:00) and sounds good!

  • what's the date on this?

  • Jimi, you'r still the man when it comes to playing the guitar.

First time I heard this version and it's great!

  • LUV U BABY SHOES

  • Jimi is like cool comedian with his guitar, he can make you laugh out loud with a tongue-in-cheek hip phrase or a funny noise like at 1.43 or 2.09. It's like he folds the music in, turns it upside down and rolls it back out again, with rainbow colours.

  • Who else can or could do that on the guitar? That absolute mastery combined with the hip, laconic, gum-popping sort of humour and playfulness. Only Django, as far as I know. There are some great guitarists, but those two are just the Olympians.

  • Yesssssssss!!

  • not playing with memory, playing by feeling...

  • @onur7373 A turkish dude that like hendrix? nice :) most turkish guys in germany like (c)rap music... :(

  • @kimmedavid

turks in germany are very different generation according to us bro : )

actually the situation in turkey is not so different. rap is not popular at here but everybody like poor quality pop music( background rythyms and music are same for all of them) : )

but people around me are sick of that music so we're listenin' to jimi, stevie ray, dire straits, guns n roses, slash, pink floyd, eric clapton...etc for a long time...

  • @onur7373 yeah sometimes i think the turks in istanbul for example are more modern then the turks here , the problem is most of them came from poor cities or villages and some of them are very religios ,and i think religion is not a good thing if you want to live together in a multi-culti society but thats just my opinion ;)

and i dont like pop to , its all the same shit ..... in germany we call rock music like hendrix "handmade" ! pop isnt handmade at all...

    have a nice day

  • @onur7373 finally. now I know that there are some true listeners out there. I was beginning to feel alone.

  • best blues song ever.

  • Omg I love the blues sadly one person does not

  • Sony Music is taking off all the good Jimi Hendrix Vids.

  • god. great color in this playing. the major sixth mixed in with the whole step above the tonic.....just very advanced harmony. and to think....at this concert, if you listen to more high quality versions...you can hear biggots screaming the 'n' word at him while playing. it's like he bottled all that hatred aimed at him into the most earth-shattering electric blues we have ever heard.... this is really complex and advanced playing.....

  • @MurphyYork123 are you serious about people yelling that at him? That's disgusting...

  • @MurphyYork123 wait a minute ,you have a better quality audio from this song?? could you pls send it to me per email?

  • @MurphyYork123

    Proof?

  • Is this Newport Beach, CA?

  • your incorrect Mrbiggerjobs 1000, Jimi played left handed, but the strings were correctly strung with the Low E on top (they werent upside down. Albert King did play left handed with the guitar strung right handed (upside down if played left handed)

  • This version of Red House was the best. Feel the gentle and powerful atmosphere which gives a feel to the recording. These days nothing beats and of course the gold pieces.

  • One of my favourite ones Red House, and I love the early part of this version especially.....the vocal is lovely on this one, so intimate and sensual....well I'd have never locked him out ;0) ....thanks gacelaxd!

  • @philkapune

yeah people can beat around the bush all they want butwhen you look at Hendrix play you get the impression this guy had more mastery of his guitar than anybody else.

across the board he clearly is the most skilled.

  • very blues

  • @philkapune Yes I just thought about this and you know-all those other guys learn runs and scales and tricks over and over again but Jimi learnt the guitar left handed- with the strings the wrong way round. I think this has something to do with it- he felt for the notes he wanted rather than just learning technical things from other people

  • great versionnnnnnnnnnn

  • Yeah, Jimi was a good interpreter of vibes. His Hawaiian stuff taps something that translates the vibe of Hawaii just like an expression of the essence of flowers or nature or a bedrock Hawaiian vibe. When you listen to Jimi at his deepest when he is in the trance of this expression he gives you the feeling of ancient powers like how you feel when you look at the pyramids or any other profound representation of deeper forms artistic, cultural, spiritual, religious or deep space. And he knew it.

  • (I love the fact that last one was the thread's 69th comment)

  • @Exiles800

    Deep

  • @Exiles800 pali gap is a good example

  • @Exiles800 dude i know exactly what you mean like the full rare version of hey baby at maui puts me to tears sometimes its very tropical soundin. heard it?

  • What we speak of is exactly Jimi's musical genius, what defines Jimi, and what no one else can do. Hawaii definitely touched something in Jimi and allowed him to connect to his deepest talent. Voodoo, shamanism, washing souls, African ju ju, a higher form, whatever you want to call it, Jimi was able to put it to music. Hendrix's playing is so unique it is more ceremony than music, like the 'religion' he spoke of and was trying to express. Jimi was frustrated people didn't get it.

  • @Exiles800 too right man, and he kinda did look like he just belonged there.

  • Incest? why do you say that? cuz Jimi has issues with one hoe so he moves on to try n fuk her sister....thats not incest son...its called mackin hoes aka bein a player like jimi was. so stfu kid bow down to the god of guitar jimi hendrix #1

  • lol i never knew jimi was into incest

  • ;)!!! I think it was a slip of the tongue - ah ha ha ha... This is a tight, humming version with jamming improvs...

  • @dezmoanded he says, if my baby dont love me no more, than my sister will...

he talks about love not sex

  • It's a slip of the tongue from the usual lyric "Her sister will..."

  • Oh Hell yeah, G Axd knows his Sheeit!!!!

  • BeenBad4U: it was names a girl Dolly Dagger she took him the heroine for toronto in his bag! But she wanted it not for bad but Jimi had to much do for his damned manager jeffery. She had too much sorrow why he burnt out. that was the reason, he always took almost no heroine, he was not addicted about heroine this was a damned lie. Thomas

  • The heroin had to be planted because there was no trace of heroin in Jimi's system and Jimi was smart enough not to plant a vile of heroin right on top of his clothes inside his suitcase while going through Customs. Smells like dirty ops. That "He burnt out stuff" is crap. Listen to some of his playing right towards the end. Jimi Hendrix was murdered by waterboarding by the way...

  • @Exiles800 the goverment wanted him dead. They thought he was a threat to society. And many people would "change" under his music/influence

  • @juna2509 sure... and why are there so many hendrix videos/cd/books? i mean the goverment could easy put all hendrix stuff from the market ,because it could "change" their minds.... honestly dude that goverment shit is bullshit

  • @kimmedavid

Actually, take a look at Operation MC Chaos. CIA Files.

  • @RastafariPoet im german i wouldnt understand all of the file either... what is in it?

  • hi! gives at youtube not more the version from randall island red house? It was the best i ever hear! For a help very thankful thomas

  • I quite dig my woman's sister too...

  • my friend has one of those pieces of Jimi's Marshall lol

  • *****(((((10)))))*****

  • is that an SG? anyone know?

  • he was on top form at this concert!!

  • Comment removed

  • totally jammed out and one of his better vocals. I rate this RH right up with his versions in San Diego , Atlanta Pop, and NY Pop Festival. Notice how he changes the words at the end of last verse from "her sister will" to "my sister will ". And holds one note from 4;47 to 4';57. Now THAT is some tension and release playing

  • ...and he bends her just a bit @ about 4:55 of that long hold...just to move onto the next riff!

  • @BeenBad4U Fuck off, hes Jimi, he can do whatever he wants.

  • this is different...so good!

  • I think Stevie Ray Vaughan called this type of playing..by Hendrix, "talking with the angels". Incredible...Awesome...godlike!

  • Some of this Newport stuff is simply phenomenal.

  • Beautiful and very soulful . I agree with the post that points out how he just plays what he feels at the moment no matter what bs is happening around him and what bs is being yelled at him. He transcends it all. It inspires me to try and do the same.

  • @MrBb4848 finally, i know you said this 2 years ago, but i'm tired of all the "put down my guitar" comments. Keep on keepin

  • Love this version!

  • Why do people refer to good guitar playing as "sick"? Is it American slang?

  • SICK ie: "awesome" "extraordinary" "unbelievable"

  • **********(10)********** TEN FUCKING STARS Man! This WHOLE things a PURE GEM from the pearly gates above, its so, *S*I*C*K*, but I MELT @ 1:58! 2:08! 3:00! 3:52! 6:02... Gut-Wrenching SICK - every note...just listen! And to think that Jimi was agitated by racists hecklers in the crowd screaming "nigger" @ him, and to go on & play this, like this, so FINE, HAUNTINGLY-BEAUTIFUL, only makes sense. ...Paul McCartney talked about Jimis actual talent surfacing. THIS is what he meant!

  • Love this version so much! I listen to it often!

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I've never heard it before. The fills are fabulous.

  • Incredible version. I know San Diego and Randalls Island are the best but this is a very fine version.

Love the beautiful Hawaiian style rhythm work at 1:57-2:15

  • "cause u want it all or none"L.R."He made my big toe shoot up in my boot"L.R.GREAT version!!

  • "If my baby don't love me, I know good and well my sister will" - rather unfortunate mistake at the end. :)

  • Slight correction...w/all due respect..."If my baby don't love me...I know good & well...HER sister will". Peace & Blues in NYC...we miss you & love you Jimi!!

  • Yes, but in this version he sings "MY sister".

  • Sorry, I stand corrected...I jumped the gun there a little bit. He sure does say that @ the end...& now I understand your post..."rather unfortunate mistake at the end"...yes, it is...LOL!! ;+)

  • On the "live at Winterland" version he says"and if my baby don't love me,I know her big, fat, black sister will".

  • in RL his half sister will love him a lot...

  • hey, jjlovelady, he doesn't say 'black' he says "her big, fat butt, sister will"

  • WOO HOOOO 5 starz

  • great version ... crisp, clear & clean playing & feeling

  • so cool how he plays exactly how hes feeling at the time

  • not exactly! he was really pissed off and had - one song earlier - just told some of the audience who were shouting Nigger to F*** off.

  • Now, why would you spell out the word Nigger and not the word Fuck?? Are you trying not to offend anyone? There is some crazy shit on u-tube......

  • If I was to bleep out the N word how would you know what I was talking about, dozy?

  • Who is the dumb ass that dont know what the N word is? Yo either your real stupid or a slick talker. Either or, cut it out........

  • Just calm down smoke a spliff and listen to the best Electrical Guitarist that the instument as ever been played by do his thing and keep your observations to yourself....

  • Yeah! What type of shit IS THAT?

  • Listen closely to when he stops playing Hear My train due to the audience shouting abuse...

  • HEAR MY TRAIN was another stunner! Jimi got busted in Toronto 7 weeks earlier for hash & heroin that was PLANTED in his carry-on bag. This audience was HORRIBLE - Jimi sang: "waiting for that train, to take me the HELL out of here, take me away....from this lonesome town. It's too bad you don't love me no more people. It's too bad you all have to act like clowns. Tears have been burning me, way down my cheeks. Tears way down in my heart burning me. Ever since a spirit...way down in my soul..."

  • Planted. ha-ha.

  • thanx Gacelaxd for this. Jimi is great!

  • one of my favorite renditions of this song..... of course any version jimi makes is beautiful....

  • wOw.... that wounds incredible at around 2:00 and a little past...

  • Thanx gacelaxd! This is from the NewPort Pop Festival, Devonshire Downs, CA; 6-20-69 (Friday night).

SET LIST: Stone Free/Drums, Are You Experienced? Stone Free, Sunshine of Your Love, Fire, Hear My Train Comin', Red House, Foxy Lady, Like A Rolling Stone, Voodoo Chile Drums & Purple Haze.

Jimi was so unsatisfied w/his performance that he came back the next day & jammed for 2+ hrs!

JHE earned $125,000 for the concert - Highest sum ever paid a rock act for a single concert at the time!

  • hey beenie or anyone, you might be able to help.

im trying to think of a recording with jimi where his guitar is recordet line in and there is no other instruments. wanna put it through my marshall amp crank it full and luck my door and throw out the key *_*. can you think of any?

    sincerely yunus

  • Wasnt The Sky is Crying played @ this performance too?

  • Yes 2 days later (Sunday afternoon), Jimi returned & jammed w/Buddy, and many, many others. He was angered by racist hecklers in this crow & jeered back! So unhappy, he returned unannounced for free! The Sky In Cryin is simply S*I*C*K as is Earth vs Space! Jimi wore his Blue kimono from the Dick Cavett Show appearances and played a White Strat w/Tele neck, thru Fender amps (posters were made). THAT Strat showed-up only one other time in June '69 @ an after-hours gig, never to be seen again...

  • They selling these performances together in stores or i have to go to the anitque record store?

  • Yeah, thanks a lot, this version is really good. Jimmy was so good!

  • Its Jimi....sheesh...

  • Jimi's guitar playing can make me laugh out loud - some of the fills he plays in this are so funny. :-) Excellent.

  • Awesome! Someone ate their wheaties that day! I read somewhere that Jimi favored daytime gigs when he could actually see the audience - sure sounds like it in this clip if that's from the Newport music festival. Thanks for posting!

  • This song is from the Friday night JHE gig. The jam with Buddy Miles where Jimi is wearing the blue kimono was Sunday afternoon.

  • thanks for posting:)

  • That was perhaps the best version of Red House I've heard.Jimi sounded happy that day. Thanks so much...

  • You're welcome. I'm glad you like it as much as I do :)
