  • an properly inclined collector may have optimum face area to the sun when the sun is at its lowest , but inclined panel has effeciency losses and alot of extra cost. Optimum cheap build and savings could be made with your system that made ON the wall. First paint the wall on your building black, build the frame directly on the building. You save money in insulation ,buying metal for the box, and heat losses thru the bottom duct are now non existent.

  • @wildwindsca yeah if we ever re-do it someday or build another one we would build it right on the building

  • @wildwindsca Exactly right. My design will go up this Spring, and I'm going to build it on the South Wall, at an incline to maximize efficiency in Spring and Fall.

At ZIP code 49112, I figure 75 to 80 degrees should do it. My feeling is there's no sense maximizing for December.

I plan to use large diameter PVC as the plenum on top and bottom and two layers of metal screen as the absorber. It's a new idea called "zero pass" where the air flows between the screens, not through them.

  • Big bang for the buck project ! Your vid is now in my fav selection.

  • @Heliopolite thanks man

  • Good Job and I know it heats good too. But you can get alot more heat out of that panel if it was layed back to a 45 degree angle. It would increase the exposed area towards the sun.

  • @STARFIRESOLAR That depends on his latitude. 45 degrees in winter would be optimal for... Florida. The sun's REAL low in January when you get to 41 degrees latitude. Here, 80 degrees incline would be close. The point is to be 90 degrees to the Sun to reduce reflection. Of course, adding a mirrored reflector also works to increase area.

  • like to know where did you get the thermostat switch?

  • @enrico0611 we got it at a farm supply store, its a cooling fan switch

  • I cant tell how sealed that panel is, is it really sealed up? also the metal inside looks like rpanel, which doesn't heat up well, I would probably go with the cheaper galvanized corrugated metal its thinner and warms up faster and hotter but thats just me.

    EXCELLENT WORK!!!!

  • @TheDudeRulez09 it is sealed up pretty good. the steel in it is pole barn steel that you would put on a shed

  • solar HEATER panel

  • Wow...to get the panel up to 110 temp while the outside air temp was around 5, thats awsome, and then to maintain a 75 temp while the fan kicked in...If you think of it you are trying to heat a lot of air when you calculate the qubic feet....I'm going to build a smaller version to supplement our heat for the house...

  • You did it RIGHT, who cares if you can get 50 deg or more air tem rise with a muffin fan for air movement micky mouse could do that with a light bulb. YOU VERY WELL showed us what you want is lots of air flow even if the temp rise is only 10 or so degs out let air, you are still heating up, and you MUST have air flow and temp rise The temp rise inside the room or buiding is what is MOST inportant, you want to heat the whole place not the bathroom!! THANKS A+

  • @ab0ad thanks for the comments
