  • I would have really liked to have seen the bread cut in half to get a look at the inside results ;-)

  • Awesome stuff :)

  • English Muffins can be cooked stove top using a cast iron fry pan or griddle sprinkled with corn meal. Cook one side2-3- minutes, flip and finish.

  • my dutch oven runs on baked beans, cabbage, and delived eggs

  • Love this video! I make boule all the time and we love it. BTW, your Dutch Oven is called a Spider Dutch oven. The feet on the bottom is why it's called a spider.

  • Do you find the bread to be really dry without fats?

  • @YiuTeub no

  • maybe i missed it, but what would the baking settings be in a normal oven?

  • @RDJim When I make bread in the oven I set the temp to 475F and bake for about 30-35 minutes. They get a nice crust.

  • For someone who knows nothing about yeast, if you buy the instant kind, can you just add it directly to this mix without putting it in water first?

  • Looks good. Thanks for sharing. I will try it. Blessings to you and yours Brother.

  • Fascinating ! I do mine with gram flour, buckwheat and rice flour and do it in the frying pan on the hob

  • lol i love how you rip into trolls

  • why doesnt the side near the coals burn more than the side on next to the coals

  • Can you make a video on how you have this wood burning stove set up does it need to be ventilated? I would like to know to set it up I'm a visual learner thanks.

  • @gladtidings4all If you install a woodstove inside a closed area or house you obviously will need to pipe the smoke outside. You will need to do this properly otherwise you can kill yourself or burn your house down. My advice to you, is to do your research carefully and seek this information for your particuliar situation outside of YOUTUBE.

  • @Yankeeprepper You have excellent and very informative videos, however, only about 30 or so are able to be viewed on your channel. Where can I find the other 150 or so?

  • @swoldier1016 If you can make bread/cook well and do it cheaply ,you have all the info you need to get through the coming economic depression.

  • You are one awesome guy...I love your ways. You pretty much have the same philosophy that I have in life. I'm going to enjoy all of your videos. You're family is very lucky to have you.

  • I wanted to see the inside!! Looks yummy!

  • I am going to make this bread as soon as you put this vid up Jason came down and told me about it. So I went to the grocery store to buy what we needed. He wanted to do a video on it. So I guess I will make it in his memory!! Thanks

  • What kind of stove are you using to make your bread with?

  • Neat!

  • You forgot one very important thing....cutting the bread and showing it off! Thanks for the vid.

  • lol Kosher salt. Are you Jewish? ( I am )

  • OUTSTANDING! Great vid-thanks (oh, and I LOVE YOUR STOVE!!!)

  • Do you remember how much you paid for it on craigslist? Or do you have any other suggestions on how I can get a similar stove?

  • "I'm going to show you where I stick it...it's in a warm place."

That is *definitely* what she said.

  • Have you tried to use all fresh ground wheat?

  • i just made mine today many thanx yankee.

  • I like your basic style, as far as you speak to the everyday person. This was a really good way to showcase the stored preps and how to use them as you imagine you would if there was an "event".

Thank you for taking the time to produce all of these the videos!!!

  • 5 stars Yankee! Could I use all whole wheat for that recipe? And what would the temp and time be in a regular oven?

  • @ThisGuyCanCook1 I have used 100 ground whole wheat and it comes out heavy and dense. I use breads like that for camping/hiking. This bread needs HIGH heat. 450 degrees at least, even higher.

  • Great video I tried the bread recipe and it turned out great. You know you peaked my interest when you were talking about Kosher salt and I had never given it much thought as to it being actually Kosher. I looked it up and found that it actually has to do with how it is used and not the fact that it is Kosher. "The term "kosher salt" derives not from its being made in accordance with the guidelines for kosher foods as written in the Torah, but rather due to its use in making meats kosher."

  • Great video as allways, That bread looks so good I could allmost smell it ! I gotta get me a decent grinder . I just turned 50 and whole wheat is definately the way to go. Amazing as it might sound I really had not thought out how I was going to make bread or grind the grain for flour. I have some grain put away ,now I can focus on making it edible . Thanks again for sharing all the great info. Gods richest blessings to you and yours !

  • We used a dutch oven in scouts. We didn't make bread, we made cobbler. If you don't have a sweet pot belly stove like that you can dig a hole outside. Make the hole about 4 inches larger on the diameter and depth. Make a nice fire beside the hole. once you get a good amount of hot coals line the bottom of the hole with coals, place the oven in the center of the hole, place coals around the outside of the oven, and put a layer of coals on the lid.

    The bread looks great.

  • Great recipe! I've been baking my own bread for years. I cant stomach store bought bread anymore, also why I grow my own tomatoes during the winter [aquaponics]

  • Magnificent!!!

  • Man, would I love to get my hands on a wood stove like that!!!

  • My wife makes bread in a bread oven using wheat we grind and she has trouble with it not rising. She uses yeast is there a secret to it rising?

  • What is there to "dislike" about this video? Just good practical info. Thanks yankee.

  • Just a tip... cut the bread on camera for the finish. I think people really want to see what it looks like when you do. Looks yummy.

  • Watching your video makes me want to start up a sourdough starter jar again. There are strains of sourdough brought to Alaska from the 1900's that are still alive today. Really can help stretch your yeast/bread making dollars + the taste is wonderful. I've seen this same technique used for sour dough and it is wonderful. Just a suggestion =)

  • @Amandandoug There is is a campground on the east side of the Badlands that has their original family starter dough brough out on a wagon from the late 1800's. They make sourdough pancakes during the season every morning, al you can eat 5 bucks.

  • @Yankeeprepper Too bad I live hundreds of miles away in Kentucky =(

  • @Yankeeprepper they made breadk with a fire oven (cut to strereotypical pizza shop)

before that they made flat-bread on a fire i believe.

  • Did you ever notice that Salt has an "USE BY" date... How can something thats been in the earth for thousands of years have a "USE BY" date???

  • where can I buy those seed starter planters you had in your boiler room?

  • "except for maybe some asshats and trolls who watch this channel" lololol :D

  • I cooked my first loaf of this bread this morning. I must say I am very proud of how it turned out and tastes great.

Me and my wife ground the wheat yesterday and mixed the dough I forgot to use warm water and I let it rise in the microwave warmest place i could find to leave the bowl this time of year I also used too much water a full 2-1/2 cups instead of 1-1/2 and the bread turned out great just shows that anyone can do it. I plan on honing this skill and trying a teaspoon of sugar next

  • rock on!!!,,,keep the G shock clean!!

  • Wonder if a solar oven at 300-350 degrees (f) would work?

  • Thanks for the tip.

  • Did you know there are also breads made without yeast? No need to worry about keeping it around!

  • @mothertory I prefer bread made with yeast and it's to easy to keep around not to have it.

  • Thanks for this post...I have spread this around to 3 people. We all use this daily for bread now. A little tweaking needed when using whole ground wheat (a little dense). Great update, Thanks!!!

  • Thanks for this post...I have spread this around to 3 people. We all use this daily for bread now. A little tweaking needed when using whole ground wheat (a little dense). Great update, Thanks!!

  • I think even the asshats can make this bread, I'm From NYC and there are a LOT of asshats here, and no bigger asshats than the writers and readers of the New York Slimes. Oh, and the biggest of all, Mayor BLUNDERberg. Anyway, cool recipe, I'm going to check it out, anyone else see a lion's face in the dough at 3:03?

  • Make some Urban Survival Brownies daddy....

  • hmmm....now if I could just find a dutch oven skinny enough to fit through the opening of my Yukon I'll be all set....I would be able to store the oven inside the stove (along with the stove-pipe of course) and it wont even take up any more room in my bug-out bag. (By the way, you've got me started roasting my own coffee and now my whole household is drinking it night and day....I'm spending twice as much on green coffee beans because we're going through it 3 times as fast....Thanks)

  • Thanks, I tried this bread and it tasted great. It was a little "rubbery", but still tasted fantastic. This is the first time I have done anything like this and used a 1/2 recipe for my 2 quart dutch oven. Thanks again. Your vid's are inspirational.

  • The Wife and I have made 75% of our bread for the last 2 years. It's hard to beat good homemade bread!

Great vid as usual. We never get tired of these kind of vids. You practice what you prep!

    Thanks again.

  • Looks good. I will be trying this soon. Thanks.

  • do you need oil for the pot you used? so the bread don't stick?

  • Thank you Bro for this vid, I'll give it a try. makes feel like some sour dough starter

  • i think will try this, this weekend. thanks for posting

  • Great video! Thank you for sharing. Gonna try that...

  • I just made my first bread and it tastes great and was easy THANKS!!

  • Those Lodge cast iron products, thanks yp!

  • Looks great! Love

  • Very nice. Bread will be one of those items that will go from the stores first.

  • Sounds like a new recipe for my new dutch oven. yum yum.

  • @yankeeprepper Thanks cool, good info as always! I will give it a go soon:)

  • @Yankeeprepper Thanks for sharing, I'm going to give it a shot soon. I have other recipes that I use too but wth right? Bearlysceneranch also has a good no kneed bread recipe too.

  • @minbound this is so easy that you it will change your mind from buying bread. I add walnuts or olives too.

  • When you run out of yeast, you just start a Sourdough. You will be baking a lot of bread and biscuits anyway, why not? It's not hard to do and keeps for ever, if you use and re-supply it.

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing..

  • Awesome video. I like to make bread alot but now i got a new recipe to try out. thanks man.

  • the male cooks in this family

  • @wc02 One of the last things Jesus Christ did for his friends was cook them dinner and he was THE Man. It's the least that I can do for my family and friends once in a while. Learn to cook so you can survive.

  • @Yankeeprepper Thank u for the video. keep teaching.

  • Where can you get , that wood burning stove (?)

  • Yank, what's white speckles on the bread from?...Rick

  • @bonesword98 the sesame seeds i think maybe what u see?

  • Man that looks good ! I have to start honing my bread making skills. You sure make that look easy. Thanks for sharing !

  • How do you aquire yeast from nature.. if the S really does HTF, how did the ancients aquire yeast?? Thanks .. love the vids..

  • @randude1 It's hard to get away from. It's in the air and you can use bugs to collect it as well if you are desperate. But the "ancients" just kept a "mother" of yeast around. You just keep a little bit of the dough and keep feeding it. Do some research it's easy.

  • OK that tears it I am going to the local camping store to grab me a big dutch oven. That just looks too good to pass up on.

  • love the vid. 60 tomato seedlings... yank is in it to win it. God bless

  • Great, Great, Great video man!!!

  • Ass hats and trolls know it's a Dutch oven !! LMAO !! Good vid Thumbs up !!

  • 15 people hate really good home made bread...and survival.

  • Great video. Thanks. I love it when you show things to do that don't cost a lot of money. Any idea how this would work using a campfire and embers/coals. I don't own a wood stove big enough to put my 2 quart dutch oven inside.

  • @mrsdjsdj There are lots of books and even YT videos showing how to cook with a Dutch Oven. By piling coals on top of the Dutch oven and underneath you can easily replicate an "oven" with a campfire. That is what the Dutch oven was really designed for. It was an essential piece of camping equipment growing up in my household.

  • I have made this recipe adn yes its great. However with having diabetics in the house, i need to find a bread recipe similar using different flours to not spike their bs levels. I love this bread adn thanks for showing how to w/o power.

  • Just what i 'kneaded',YP :) i am looking for ideas to keep my family's morale up during the SHTF-nothing would do that better than EZ-2-make bread. BTW, do you know how to make your own rock candy?

  • @jlibertas I have an "ancient" WELSH family recipe that is carried on during Christmas. It's a hard rock candy recipe called G-Shaft.

  • Nice and simple, the way i like it.

I love my Dutch oven, i have made paella, pizza and stew and alot more in mine. Highly reccomended not just for the SHTF.

On a serious note its pretty shitty whats happening in Japan right now, that Tsunami must have been travelling at over a 100 KMH, no way to out run that.

Don't think a BOB and XXXXXXL multicam fatigues will help in a situation like that.

  • @stuartsbushcraftblog I hear XXXXXXXXL large overalls float to the surface sooner though? I hope help is swift coming to Japan. They are a strong culture and they will stick together, funny how you don't see "zombies" in the street or cannibals in the cities killing each other left and right stealing each others beans. Just desperate people trying to survive.

  • Great vid bro thanks for sharing keep the great vids coming i will be watching hope you have a great weekend i going to try this tomorrow

  • If you want a great quick recipe to try do this; add one cup warm milk, one cup flour, and two or three eggs, your choice. add salt, pepper to your liking once mixed! Put a blob of Butter in each hole of a twelve hole muffin tray, and cook butter in a 425 degree preheated oven for about five minutes til black and crackling! then whip out the tray, fill each hole about half full, and cook for 15 min at 425, then 15 min at 400! You can do all dishes and have Yorkshire pudding in a half hour!

  • job well done, I will have to give it a try, always looking for fun bread recipes

  • @beast12101 I like t put a thin slice of aged chedder on top of a slice of the bread. It's so good brother. Sometime I will eat a half a loaf for lunch with some chedder.

  • Of course now your obligated to show us how to make some awesome yankee sandwiches or whatever, lol. Your definately one of the coolest old dudes on youtube and I always look forward to the interesting things you share with us, Thank you Sir.

  • Excellent !

  • What kind of firewood stove is that and where did you get it?

  • @aquichocho It's a Laurel Woodstove circa late 1800's, made in Detriot Michigan. I bought it off Craigslist and restored it.

  • This makes me want to get a dutch oven, just so I can try this lol. Maybe I'll get myself a dutch oven and make some outside this summer :p

  • Dude, I wish you were my neighbor.

  • u r barke ing when we git to gether next

  • If you think about it, its kind of funny how much work we have to do each week so we can pay someone to look after us, meaning making all our food and other junk we do not need. If we can take care of ourselfs more we would not need to work as much for other people.

  • @ShawnCFarm Agreed. There is a feeling that comes from self sufficiency that cannot be produced by anything else, especially buying "things".

  • I'm use to making bread the other way of kneading the bread for years, will have to try it your way. I envy you for having and using that wood stove......Love Wood!!!!

  • Rock on YP!!!!!!!! Keep these coming!

  • Dutch Ovens are Awesome!

    Great BROWNIES TOO.

Love the Vid. Nice to see a man cook.

My husband was a chef. ;-)

    Now he builds beautiful things.

  • That's beautiful Brother, I loves me some bread! Thanks Yankee!

  • looks amazing

  • You are the bread KING!!

  • Yankeeprepper, the modern day polymath aka renaissance man. What I strive for daily.

  • Thanks I am going to prepare this tonight so my daughter and I can bake it in the morning. Thanks for inspiration :)

  • You've inspired us to do the same. We haven't bought a loaf of brean in five months. Your right too!! It taste better and is better for us. Have you ever heard of a sour dough bread that you keep in the fridge?

  • I loved this video, thx so much for showing all the steps and I'm super jealous of your wood stove!

  • All ya need is a fryn pan! Fry bread an gravy! Great vid!

  • A Dutch oven is an essential piece of kit for the home. Another wonderful video! ;)

  • Like it! Thanks for posting. Keep up the good work and keep sharing the knowledge!!!

  • saw a show on history cannel called surviving the apocolips check it out it was a great prepper program

  • Thanks Yankee... def going to try this tomorrow!

  • Very Nice. Thanks for sharing as always.

  • "Ass hats and Trolls" LMAO I think I'll add to that my favorite quotes. Love the Dutch Oven. I remember getting my Cooking Merit Badge in Boy Scouts, Our Scout Master made learning to cook in a Dutch mandatory. A skill I still have to this day. You can really turn out some good home cooking in a Dutch Oven, simply, easy and no fuss way to cook or bake.

  • Thanks, I'm anxious to try this out.

  • Nice bread, I'll have to try that tomorrow when I make my weekly sandwich loaves. Thanks!

  • awesome.. adding this one to my prepping cook book.. thx

    have a blessed day

  • great video, I love sesame seeds on my bread to. I never tried cooking the bread in a dutch oven. i will have to try that. I did make bushcraft bread in a fire pit buried in a wood charcoals, sounds weird but works good.

  • Great vid dude. I love it. Really helpful and may come in handy some day.

  • Thanks, Yank!.I got a dutch oven and the missus loves to bake!

  • Thanks for going the extra mile for us once again, YankeePrepper. Love how easy this is! Your girls are going to have a hard time finding a guy as cool and well rounded as their dad.

  • Aaaa Oooo, NYC bread...nice! Def going to try that., BTW every time I see your wood burning stove, I get jealous. I love that stove. Thanks for the caption bro.

  • I have been making home made bread too, but from a bread maker that I picked it up for $4. It works nice.

  • great video brother. I cant wait to try this.

  • @Glockoma441FA When I get a comment like yours. Just 9 words, it makes me want to keep posting. It's that simple. I hope you do try it and thanks.

  • @Yankeeprepper did you lubricate the pan with anything oil, butter etc.?? not necessary to keep it from sticking to the dutch oven????

  • @frogprepper My dutch oven is well seasoned and the corn meal helps the bread from sticking too.

  • Man that looks good!!!

  • Nice! Ever try it whole wheat only?

  • Good video. Was thinking about learning how to make bread just the other day. I always thought you needed eggs. Guess you don't.

  • Awesome!! Looks good and it's probably better for you than the store bread

  • I need to get a dutch oven. If my electricity goes out I'm screwed.

  • @AtheistPatriot1 I used a dutch oven in the Boy Scouts for the first time. They are a most excellent piece of equipment.

  • @Yankeeprepper I cant keep but laughing when people talk about wanting a dutch oven. Its imature but pretty funny

  • The Sh*t has hit the fan in Japan !!!!

  • @zeno57 It sure has. Catastrophic. All the more reason and signs to start prepping. Funny how there are no zombies in the street or cannibals like in the movies. Just devastated people trying to survive. The Japanese culture is a strong one and they will help each other.

  • @Yankeeprepper In my preps over the last 3 years I bought a Sunbeam bread maker. its cool A loaf of bread in 3 hours and at 2008 prices the ingreds cost me 34 cents per loaf .

  • Watch how Robert Duval makes biscuits in Lonesome Dove. Dutch ovens come in pretty handy when necessary. There are somethings we all can learn from the "old ways".

  • #pray for japan...

  • Did you see the "Speedy No-Kead Bread" recipe in the NY Times? Its initial rise is 4 hrs. Then you do the folding. The final rise is 30 minutes before baking.

There is also a Speedy Whole Wheat recipe that has a final rise of 1 hr.

Love your videos YP. UR a real inspiration. :) Thanks

  • that cook pot is great

  • man, that with some home made jam. mmmmmm .

  • another tip. they make liners for them so easy to clean. using those dutch ovens some guys I camp with make dump cakes in them by putting the hot coals from the grill on top of the pot, also they will stack them 2 high doing that. drink a few beers & there cooked :)

  • @williepie I am telling the truth. All you guys out there that think hunting deer with bugout bags are full of crap. That won't even work in normal times.

  • Awesome, but I was a bit disappointed that we didn't get to see you cut that clump of goodness and take a bite , thanks Yankee

  • I just put the dough together, I'll let you know how it turns out tomorrow morning!

  • John is going to freak out when he sees me making bread, in my Dutch oven, in the fireplace! Thanks for reminding us to start our seeds.

  • This is why I love this channel!

  • @ProthoPectore C'mon, Al Gore is a hippie. And you would have saran wrap if you stocked up on it :) In all seriousness, a damp towel works best in my opinion. That's what my grandma used.

  • ★★★★★

  • Would letting it sit merely at room temperature suffice?

  • @gard751 wondering the same thing

  • @gard751 70 degrees or above is what the recipe link in the info box recommends.

  • Asshats and Trolls? On You Tube?????? What are you talking about????? ;-)

  • Sweet video! Excellent!

  • Love it - awesome!
