seems odd that the shorter video (this one) has a thumbnail further into the video than the longer one. Your description text points out that they both have the "middle" thumbnail chosen, right?
I believe you are speaking another test we did for youtube thumbnails in a 35 sec. video. The middle Thumbnail from that one was at 11.27 while this "shorter video" - the 30 sec. one - shows the middle Thumbnail at 13.15.
The oddness you mention is all part of YouTube Thumbnails seeming to be "random". But we did figure it out! We cracked the code!
Search in YouTube for "YouTube Thumbnails Test 30", choose "more info" and click the links to get to the "Secret Code" posted on our website.
Update! We did NOT crack the code yet. It has been determined that our method only works if you are willing to run a counter the entire length of the video.
