This song is the epitome of the classic break-up song, especially of a marriage. I listen to it well. It hurt and helped, if that makes sense. On the music side, I think it's very beautiful with it's simplicity. Cheers!
Michael Penn is one of the few modern vocalists to use a song variation of their speaking voice to convey their lyrics. This is why it sounds so natural. There may be a neiche market for "truth in song" but it is there...in fact it is here (!) Jewel, Joss Stone, Angie Hart and particularly Ben Lee of recent times evoke and immediate comparison, as does (dare I say) the classic blues and folk singers of the 60s, particularly Bob Dylan who furthers the cause of AT LEAST! "veritas in voce veritas."

Just another brilliant lyrical example of Penn's mystique.
"March," is a great, and greatly overlook album, but I believe he will be discovered, even if it's past his time.
