I was born in the 70's. There are sounds that I absorbed from various media as a small child that BOC encapsulates with perfection, It tugs at my emotions in a way that the next generation might not understand. They will have their own equivalent experiences which will no doubt be emulated. I don't think the late 70's, early 80's sound and aesthetic can be matched though.
@papersplease Nail hit right on the head there. They take 'something' from that era and modernise it somehow so that it isnt at all retro, more futuristic. All their records are fantastic but this debut is off the scale.
I remember the first time I heard this track. I had heard of it, but never listened to it. It always sounded boring from the small snippets I had heard, but I decided to give it a chance. I thought it was alright. then I was totally blown away for the last two minutes. When that little flute sound slowly got louder and louder, I remember thinking "was that a whole tone scale melody I just heard?" I'm a music major, and was totally amazed by BoC's use of harmony in this track.
@jacobloper2 I'm already 22 and dxm is still relavent to me...
