Most of these precautions are not totally unwarranted, but calculating the amount of time a customer spends at an aisle, analyzing their moves and cross-referencing their data does seem creepy. Straight out of '1984'. For anyone interested in knowing more about the machinations of the Vast Machine, I suggest a good book called 'The Traveler', byt John Twelve Hawks, who, incidentally, stays 'off the grid'.
