I have ups and downs in chess. One hour I will win , next I keep losing, it sucks. I played 4 hours and my rating did not improve, so I am doing something wrong. And, I got Koreans faces off with me now.
It's really unusual to see a Super GM spending this much time looking at a position in a simul. The kid he's playing against must be a strong master at least, maybe an IM. I've played several simuls and usually it's 10 seconds or less for any given move and my position is soon hopeless.
Don't be fooled, the top players in the world don't have to posture. He doesn't have to act confident and in fact the best chess players in the world are full of doubt... in a good way.
@killingangel707 This is true, the likes of Grandmaster Jon Speelman is one of the worst for confidence and posture! He even doubts everything he does but is called by ICC members Columbo, because if you see him and hear him talk about positions you think he was just a Patzer - he even calls himself that!
I remember playing several GMs and they always look like they doubt their moves and even look confused at times, not because they don't know what they are doing, but because they see problems!
@killingangel707 ...........problems because of strong play by opponents??? Maybe, but not necessarily, they can see things that the average and even some GMs can't, and this can make the game more complex than it would be to others who are just playing a move and hoping for the best....like me ;)
@dawnoftheseaotter Technically retired but not actually retired...if you get my drift! He's still working hard in politics and chess, just not playing much tournament chess. I wouldn't consider him really retired, if anything, he's working harder than he has ever done before. Writing books; playing many simuls a year; lectures; TV appearances; interviews and political work...hardly a case of retirement, I think he's even more busy now than when he was playing!!!
@dawnoftheseaotter Let's not forget that the amount of promotion, chess books, lectures and videos he's done for chess in recent times means that he's not Physically, in the classical sense of the word, retired from chess! These things take time and probably he doesn't have time anymore for tournaments anyway, he was training young players too - like Carlsen!!!
okay where are the notations to the games in the simul? i seen them recording all the games, i want to see the game kasparov lost too the amateur at zurich! anyone know where i can see them?
What was the result?
I'm guessing 25 - 0 to Kasparov?

who is the smart-ass player that put Kasparov in bafflement? Damn, that little kid must be good.

@30inventionman Kas always tries to secure a win in simuls. He was probably in a draw position and trying to figure out some way to forge a win.

Did he finally make a move?

It would be funny if they put on one of these multi chess games with some great player and he lost every single game.

Wow he's looking a lot older. Either he's not dying his hair anymore, or the Russian politics thing is really taking its toll.

Why is he thinking so much ? It's strange. He's a top player, against a kid, I'm a bit surprised. He's funny anyway :)

he's a bit stuck at 1:50, although Im sure being the great chess player he is, he figured it out!

So he did. But he still plays the occasional simul or holds lectures. There's also an upcoming exhibition match against Karpov.
